@@ElBandito You are right, it is just like Sudan, Ethiopia, and even Ukraine. There is always a benefiting party from war. To name a few, in Sudan, it's Russia's interest in building a port and the UAE's investment in gold. For Ethiopia, it's also Arab nations and the Somaliland govt that wants to sell land for the Ethiopian govt to build a port. Ukraine also gets access to U.S. grade weapons and the backing of Nato, but a lot of Russia's investments in Africa are funding their fight in Ukraine. Haiti is interesting, and in my own opinion, I believe that France should be intervening, I mean if they value diversity and human rights, then clean up your mess from your fathers, and their fathers' mistakes. If the U.S. can apologize to Iraqmmmm m for a war they started killing millions of innocent lives, then France can do something about Haiti if you ask me.

Not all countries in Africa are collapsing and Kenya for all its problems is a relatively strong and stable state with functioning institutions. There have been issues with the police force as well as the government, but the country has a track record of intervening in other states in the East Africa region and the Balkans. While I don't think that Kenya should be involved in Haiti, those reasons are more to do with how the government is attempting to position itself as a client state for U.S. interests. As such you would do well to familiarise yourself with the politics of different African countries before making blanket statements rooted in old stereotypes.

If I were a Kenyan police officer being sent to Haiti, I can guarantee you that I would not be doing anything to risk my life for a nation that is not my own. They have an incredibly difficult problem to deal with, and I do not think police officers are suited for this task - this appears to be more of a military problem.
If Haiti keeps on depending on others to solve its problems, it will always fail. The UN have sent forces in time and time again, and although they have often restored some semblance of order, they have not fixed the underlying issues with Haitian political culture, corruption and a general "dog-eat-dog" approach to all things. There is no civic pride, there is no trust, there is no hope, and so things will remain unstable.
What can one do? At this point.... look just let the least insane gang take over and hope that it one day evolves into a government. Or, send in a genuine UN task force to take order, impose that order for at least 10 to 20 years, and then gradually build up a civic society. There is no quick fix for this. If you're going to intervene, then intervene on a big scale and for a long time, or don't bother at all. This half-hearted, piecemeal interventions just prolongs the suffering of Haiti.
This will not be solved until the Haitians solve it themselves. And I don't know when that will happen. This is like China during the war-lord era, except a lot worse.

As someone living in Russia I can't stand when people tell you that you must stand up and solve your country's problems. It's genuinely impossible to do so. For instance, in Russia you'll get arrested as soon as as you will unfold even a blank piece of paper. In Haiti it's even worse. As soon as as you will try to do something in this failed state you will put your life at a great risk. In their situation you may be killed by gangs, drug drillers, HNP, peacekeepers, etc. So I tend to reckon that it's absolutely unfair to tell that people of Haiti are the power that should make this country stable. This demonstrates how out of touch the UN actually are, with a population of around 11.2 million, a land area of just over 27,000km² and a coastline of 1,700km - even the full contingent of 2,500 troops is not going to be able to achieve much, especially without a marine and air component to their operations. London has around 33, 000 serviing Police Officers for a population of around 8.8 million and a land area of around 1500km², to put things in perspective. I think we can all agree that Haiti has a bigger problem than London.
It needs a force of around 20,000 heavily armed troops to bring things under control, only then reducing this force whilst they train local Police Officers and the Haitian military is not only trained to a higher standard, but expanded to around 25,000 to be able to effectively support the Police and retain order within the Country.
The UN has shown the same level of left wing woke arsed ineptitude that the League of Nations showed in the 1930's, numerous smaller conflicts that went under controlled, which then led to the spat in Europe and the Pacific...their inaction in Ukraine, Gaza and Africa is leading us down that path.

Nope! You have 12.000 gang members pitted against the same number of security forces. Horrible odds, it's a balanced fight through and through. If you're fighting an equal fight, you're fighting wrong. Equipment quality and training don't matter as much as one would think against an insurgency because the insurgents tend to disregard their losses way more than the security forces do. During the bloody PKK 'Hendek Incident' terror operation in Turkiye in 2015-2016, around 30.000 military and police personnel equipped with some of the best gear available were mobilized against 600 to 2000 terrorists dug down in urban areas. Even with such power inbalance, more than 700 security personnel were killed in action against 2000 claimed terrorist losses. It was a 15 to 1 battle with the losses being 3 to 1 because the terrorists had the "home advantage". Insurgency is no joke. You don't clear out that rabble with 200-400 "highly trained and equipped officers" no matter how well they may mean. It's a waste of life, money and time.

Let me tell you what the real problem is with Haiti. The problem is that, like many other countries, it is very very hard for the diaspora to be part of the solution. I'm canadian and am born to a haitian mom. I would LOVE to help Haiti in any way possible, even if it's just to take a vacation there and help the local economy. However, it's not even close to be a possibility and haven't been for a long time. My mom left the Duvalier dictatorship and i have zero close relatives left in Haiti. All of them are in Canada or USA and most of them are educated people. When your country loses educated people and that the remaining people are so corrupted and only money driven without a single care for the well being of the population, that's the results you're gonna get. At this point, my catholic being just hopes for a miracle in Haiti. Can't imagine the struggle of a daily life in the shoes of someone living in Port au Prince. Of course, the history of Haiti is a sad one as it was pretty much the first country to live through economic sanctions after the revolution but I'm not the kind of guy that looks for excuses. We haitian people need to unite and work together, whether you live in Haiti or not.

Haiti itself has 14,000 police and 2000 military. Nearly half of the expected budget for the mission is training and equipping them. But yes, they are a sorry state and more international forces are needed. Getting the local forces trained/equipped will be essential for long term stability, but they honestly can't really do much (and training locals is often a mixed bag in terms of results, especially if the local forces already have significant core issues)
But yes, they definitely need more international boots on the ground - but the expected number of total police, including the Hatians, is in that ballpark. Edit: the hatian personnel number was pulled from the planned budget for the mission - I am not 100% sure if it's the number they currently have, or the number they hope to have with the funding

When the Haitian people decide enough is enough and remove the tyrannical government by revolution, the UN calls it gang violence and call for an international intervention. To be fair there are lots of gang members involved with the revolution, but in my opinion we see the gangs 100% of the tjme cuz that’s the narrative the medias wants to show, if u go and watch the on the ground videos of the actual people in Haiti talking and not just media headlines and articles written by people who have never even been to Haiti, you’ll see it’s not just gang members who are angry with the government.

Fingers crossed that they're just getting acclimated to the environment, and things improve in Haiti. To draw a historical comparison, the US got our asses kicked when we first entered WW2. UN... say no more. Even if the forces were adequate, the UN has a habit of undermining their effectiveness with bureaucracy, which often increases the danger to those forces. More forces and resources could be sent, but like with most of the UN's peace keeping failures, the problem is politics.

@@kennethloki7011 i hate it but i agree. Haiti still hates the US even for things like relief missions after their earthquakes and hurricanes, and blame the US for even domestic issues like their gangs and warlords. When the US cuts trade to Cuba it's a "blockade" and "an unfair embargo", f they conduct trade they're "enabling dictatorships", and if they just cut weapons they still get accused of unfair embargoes like in Venezuela. Best to just stop getting involved: we get the same amount of complaints and we can use some of the saved money to deal with the hundreds of thousands of Haitians already in the US.

So, because you elected Ruto, owe money to the IMF and China....the US Ambassador is running your country? Former colonies always complain about the horrors of the past and yet they keep electing the worst amongst themselves to keep those systems alive so you can blame a system that officially ended in the 1960s rather than face the facts that every petty African dictator or warlord and the unending corruption and tribal violence are all done by Africans on Africans. You experienced all of the horrors of colonialism and came out with even less empathy for each other than you had during occupation. And of course the US is friendly with Ruto. He is the leader of the country and a willing partner for US interests the in the area. We would be friendly with anyone in charge of a foreign country that wanted to be a partner. Nothing special or unique about Ruto other than he's the one that's in office.
