  • A Delaware judge this week ruled Elon Musk's 2018 pay package - now worth about $50 billion - went too far. Should Musk have to give up his right to the stock? Jon Fortt is here to weigh in.

All of your arguments are irrelevant. The shareholders voted for this. Period. There was no law that said anything about how a board is made or if people hate eachother or not. Everyone involved in stealing Elon's money needs to go to jail.

    Who brought in this case?

A guy with 9 shares. I have 3x more. The lawyers took the case because they want 10% of the package's value. The lawyers who sued on behalf of the 9 shares guy are looking for 5 billion in fees.

Thanks! And I guess On the Other Hand is an easy one to (half) agree with.

@@ForttKnox It isn't that I agree or against any viewpoints, it is that the viewpoints are with merit. I think sometimes when segments have a limited time or time is squeezed the viewpoints are done without much context. I have worked in TV as a lad and totally understand that Hard Breaks sometimes force people into exaggerated statements in exchange for expediency. The other issue, that I have noticed in the media is groupthink and which can be very misleading, but good for clickbait titles or subject matter. One of the things that is kind of irritating is when Media sources other media. If it isn't a direct quote then it should be used as a quote. I totally understand the need to get stories out quickly, but haste can cause waste (poor reporting).

KEY IS: did board have to offer that much? Could they have not just have offered 5/10 bn Vs 60 (however structured)? Would Musk not still have been incentivised? Truth is no one deserves that much humanly morally OR economically. It's obscene. We're ruled by robber barons who are taking obscenely more than their economic share. Society and boards can negotiate a vastly better deal for society workers and shareholders whilst still plenty rewarding entrepreneurs
