This story highlights that Both women and men can have what it takes to be a hero, in their fight to defend their homeland. Rest in Peace Lydia. Though not to detract from Lydia's Talent in any way, German Pilots were flying in a target rich environment, and for a Luftwaffe fighter pilot 11 kills was ace status, but many had far more than 11 kills. Most of the Soviet Pilots were poorly trained and the German Pilot had vast advantage over their poorly trained Soviet counterparts. So , the German ace Lydia shot down was likely a young up and coming pilot because the veteran German Pilots where flying from the very beginning of the war, their kill counts were in the Hundreds. There was no such thing as Tour of Duty in the Luftwaffe, Pilots were either promoted out of the Pilot's seat or stayed there until the end of the war, or until death took them at the receiving end of Russian Pilot's Machine Guns. Like so many before her, Lydia fell in combat simply out of Humanity's tendency to make mistakes. She missed the Messerschmidt's flying above her, and it cost her life. But she certainly showed she had what it took to make a great Pilot. Flying in the Yak-1 was certainly at a disadvantage compared to German Aircraft, especially the Messerschmidt BF-109 f. It was considered the best of the fighter aircraft of the Bf/Me-109 series. later models, due to a lack of proper design development, the latest variants of the Messerschmidt Bf/Me-109 fighter had problems including engines that would suddenly suffer catastrophic failures. This very thing is how top-rated German Ace Hans-Joachim Marseille died, because he was FORCED to fly a Messerschmidt Me-109 with the newer engine in it, and he knew that that particular engine was prone to engine failures and refused to fly other later variant planes than the one he had been assigned to, until it was damaged beyond repair in a crash Hartmann went through but survived and was given the latest Me-109 with the DB-605 engine, the one prone to failure. Marseille was killed when trying to bail out of the plane when he struck the tail aileron on the left side of his torso. Personally, I feel this impact had caused catastrophic damage to his ribcage and stopped his heart, he never deployed his chute, and the canopy of his parachute had a large gash in it from the plane's tail wing, so it would not have saved him had he been capable of opening his parachute. When he was struck by his aircraft's tail the plane was travelling close to 400 miles per hour in a dive. Luck was a huge factor for many Pilots During the second World War. Some aces like Adolf Galand, managed to stay alive but many died, especially in the Luftwaffe.

People seem to be forgetting what Russia had to go through during WW2. Stalin was a monster for sure, but that was not the fault of the Russian population. People suffered incredibly before, during and after the war.

Not only did that woman have to suffer the loss of her children, but it appears it was something she foresaw.
For her to put in the custody arrangement, that a licensed pilot and a flight plan was required proves that she knew he was a bit of a cowboy and she was trying to prevent what ultimately happened.
How much more can the grief be compounded when she lost her children to the exact thing she was trying to prevent?!!

The story of Lydia Litvyak, the "White Lily of Stalingrad," is as compelling as it is inspiring. At just 20 years old, Litvyak not only defied the odds but also shattered stereotypes as one of the world’s first female fighter aces during World War II. Her bravery and skill in the skies over Stalingrad were legendary, showing unyielding courage against seasoned Luftwaffe aces like Erwin Meier. In this brief but intense encounter, Litvyak's quick thinking and accuracy transformed her into a force to be reckoned with, and her legacy as a pioneering Soviet pilot continues to captivate military historians and enthusiasts alike.

We could never settle for the "Narrative" as we do not know that the Narrator is on your side or is he a propagandist. That is the America we know today from 9 11 onward. And they didn’t even know our names yet. And yet they had the will to give up everything in their lives to us.
