- Another deep dive in Windrow Farm history! Some hit/miss footage from our 2016 haying season, which was my fifth year in business.
In 2016 I covered 17.5 acres, making 2484 bales. It was my first season with the Massey 165, and (spoiler alert!) my last season without a bale thrower. Only about 1/3 of the hay I make in a year now, but still feels like a whirlwind in memory.
I somehow rushed through first cut and finished just around July 4th, just in time for my wife and me to take our (three-years belated) honeymoon to England and Scotland, and then return home, close on our house, move, and then start second cut.

(We are a 53-acre haying operation in Conway, MA - making all small square bales for the local food, fiber, and livestock community. Learn more about our farm at windrowfarmconway.com, or follow us on instagram @windrow.farm)

It's almost that time again. I've been changing tires and working on my new to me case 8330 haybine and picked up a class rotary rake that needed gears. Just waiting on one washer I ordered for that. I hope to be completely ready by the end of April this year.
Awesome!! Congrats on those upgrades. I also joined the rotary rake club, though we keep getting snow that’s derailing my prep plans.
Hope you had a good winter!
You’ve got a lot of mileage out of those MF tractors over the years.
Thanks - indeed! Definitely proud of the 50 year old workhorses. (And the baler - I’ve put over 40,000 bales through it at this point. Not a brag, I’m just astonished at how well it keeps slamming out bales. Jinx alert 😅). Thanks for following along, as always! Hope your prep season is going well (it looks like it!)
@@windrowfarmthe Massey 120-128 and 220-228 balers are very popular in my area. Lots of old dairy's and they put up 30000 a year with them. Very simple and sturdy design. I was sold after watching a $500 mf124 pulled from weeds and made bales right away. Knotters have to best design and Massey only went away from them when they bought hesston.
@@MAF_LTD that’s awesome!! I feel validated, thanks! 😁
