Wolf Caves Off Road Park in Mason, TX is one of Texas' most radical rock crawling parks with giant boulders everywhere! Their most extreme rated trails recommend rear steering capabilities!!! What the heck are we doing out here in a Lexus GX? Well... looking back on it that's a great question!
We continue our goal of tackling all the major Texas off road parks with this latest adventure Mason's Wolf Caves Off Road park. Along the way we test our recovery skills and share what we think about this impressive off road park!

Wolf Caves Off Road Park is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country west of Austin and San Antonio. It features 430 acres of granite outcroppings, rocks, ledges and trails that will challenge even the most extreme rock crawling rigs! People see park road and assume it's an easy trail. Wolf Caves is no joke for sure. You can absolutely do some serious damage on the park road if you take a bad line. I run green trails in my ZR2 on 35's, that's my limit out there. It's a really fun place for sure.
Yep - there was one part of park road over by the pond that actually goes through a very narrow shoot with large boulders on both sides and requires a lot of clearance. I think it's probably washed out and used to be easier but now is pretty sketch. Several bail out trails have been created around it. I definitely enjoyed the park but the GX is not the right vehicle for it. Maybe I'll go back in the Jeep! But I had goal of visiting all the major off road parks in Texas and needed to check it off the list. Just have Barnwell left. Thanks for the comment!
if you're alone in this situation jack up the front then put something under the front tires, then roll backwards out of the high center
If I had been alone my options would have been very different - totally agree! Wanted to try it with traction boards uz that’s usually the best option… fortunately had an option to get a pull. 👍
I am heading to Windrock Park in TN tomorrow with my GX. This place looks fun, but you need bigger tires and good armor for sure! Good video!

we hi-centered on our transmission pan... so it could've been worse! 😆 after some experience you'll pick your lines better... put the tires on the high stuff.. not the underside..
Honestly, after looking at it again and again the line was perfect except for not knowing it dropped a foot on the other side! 😂😂 spotting would have fixed that! Like my video from Merus where I spotted everything first… its the right way to go! Thanks for the comment!

Try out Stillwater Ranch in Llano. Open for wheeling 6 weekends per year - memorial weekend is next open weekend. Stillwater does guided tours or you may venture out in your own group. More fun than Wolf caves

Still water is no where near as fun as wolf caves.. the drive from the front parking area to the trails is too long,that alone makes me like wolf caves more. Lol

When you got hi-sided , were you in 4lo with center diff locked ? just got a 2013 GX. loved the video !
Thanks for the question. I was not when I got high sided. I put it in low and locked the center diff when trying to get unstuck - but after the stucking occurred. 😂

Complete newbie here so let me ask, what's the purpose of those "cables" along the hood of the X-Terra?
Many names for them but limb risers lift tree limbs up and over your windshield to help avoid cracking your window.
What recovery point on the front do you have?
Using the two d rings built into the CBI Offroad Fab stealth Lexus GX bumper. They work great!
Was your ATRAC working?
Yes - problem was the car was sitting perfectly centered on a large granite rock. It teeter tottered back and forth. Without getting the weight off the rock traction wasn’t helping much. 😢

@@TXGX460OverlandandOffRoad Thanks! Just got my GX last month. Only ever had to compare summer tires! Never had any punctures or problems offroad with SL?
@@siebitup keep in mind I’m in Texas so we don’t use winter tires. That said, the Falken Wildpeak AT3s with the snowflakes are winter rated. Ive driven them in ice and snow and they’re great. No punctures ever on the trail
