I was really hoping someone had uploaded a babble free play through. Really wanted to hear the music and sound effects. Plus your captions are super helpful and unobtrusive.
Yeah, I didn't want to decrease the viewing experience with the captions, so I really did my best to put them where it wouldn't be annoying. :)
just played the original version and noticed, the early shop that sells death and the magic shield was taken out. that was my first stop for shops mostly cause i like that while the death magic is good it takes a lot of mp to use

Yes my friend! This remastered version is 2 years old approx. It directly works on PC. The download link is in the video info for those who are interested. This game is tougher than the original because the players must often learn first, then progress. I guess that my walkthrough here plus the informations that I share along the way will make it much more easier to anyone wants to give it a try. :)

Gotta love the sound track... Not quite as good as the original, but VERY respectful remaster.

Such a great addition to the game in equipment with the Holy Dagger found in that chest down below, only to have it made useless once you made it to the chest on the other side of that floating platform and found the Long Sword :(
Edit - I did notice later on in the video that you showcased the usefulness of the holy dagger with regard to the zombies. Are those the only enemies that it's capable of one-shotting?

Ok, wait, those catcus crabs spawn bread, not coins. This remake is way different. Maybe tobacco secret isn't real?
Also, shouldn't the Dough-Guys shoot the magic you have equiped? So you know to downgrade if you're likely to face them?
I will watch this playthrough later. I'm very fond of the original game and played the remake by myself. I've got the fire sword and actually I have to go to conflate, but the game's frustration factor is way out of control. This game is a lot of trial and error and every time I die I wasted about half an hour of game time. This isn't a simple platformer where dying sends you back a few seconds or minutes. It's not fun playing for a long time and then just die because and loose all the progress I've made. In the original you only loose some money and experience but you keep your items and quest log. The erratic movements of enemies, hart hitting projectiles, lots of unfair spots where you can fall into traps or fighting more than 3 enemies while dodging projectiles from at least 2 sides makes this game really cruel. I die constantly in the branch world and ice world and I have full plate, magic shield and the giant blade and at least 4 of every potion and I still can't do it. Playing for hours and gaining nothing is what kills this game for me and that's sad because I love the original.
You'll probably enjoy watching my playthrough since I explain a lot of things and show a lot of tricks here and there. We simply have to be well prepared in this game and it becomes pretty easy once you know what to do and how to do it. Levelling your character up is the key if you constantly die. What about having 9 of every potion? :)
@@HalDanGhor My level is knight as far as i know. I thought I can only have 5 of every potion or am I missing something? Being prepared is one thing but the main problem is knowing how to get around all those traps and enemies without dying and loosing hours of progress.
@@thebiber9401 Level yourself up, because each level allows you to carry more potions. And this run shows you what to do, how and when. Use my tricks to go through those traps, but your first goal is to level yourself up, so you can carry more potions and succeed where you fail, so you won't die as often as you usually do. Use your options (and elixirs) and learn where to find more, especially in the Ice World. You can also play at the same time that you are viewing the vids, so you can see how it can be done without taking much damage. And with practice, you'll become more and more efficient as well. Never panic, just get to know what you are doing and you'll be finer than ever. :)
@@thebiber9401 And if you meant the traps that can be in chests, take note that in my run, I never open a single one since I knew which ones were traps. There is an item that allows us to know which chests are traps. Those chests become red. Save often to the Gurus, so you can keep what was done before saving. At top level and with this run right here, I think that you have all the tools to learn how to do everything the right way. ;)
The combat gameplay has been screwed with. You never feel in control. I gave up playing it.
Sorry for the delayed comment on this video but any idea how to change it to the original soundtrack? I just downloaded the game today
Changing the soundtrack is supposed to be in the options of the game somewhere before you start a new game. It's been years for me, so I know it's possible and easy to do, but I don't remember the looks of the menu/options.

i love the lightened color, parallax and increased item usefulness / complexity. i still hate the game / combat though
Finally someone who agrees with me. The game to me is unplayable in this state. I never feel like I am in control of the combat.
I just found out about this last night and I'm loving it so far. This was my favorite NES game. A few quirks that are annoying me because of the engine... different enemy behavior and such. And the 2nd boss keeps knocking me into the wall where I can eventually kill it but then I'm just stuck there. Going to watch this and see if there are better ways of doing certain things, and why it feels like I'm not really making any progress or getting any stronger when I level up and get new weapons. Anybody know what's up with the shield? When you equip it, you're not holding it and you can't block anything. Anyways, this is freaking awesome and I love the new world. If it weren't for a few bugs I would have kept playing it myself but I keep dying and I don't have all the time in the world anymore like I did when I was a kid and first played this. Thanks goes out to the creator.
Yeah, the enemies and some mechanics changed and to me that was very interesting! when it comes to being stuck into the walls, I'd say that it's the only problem with this game. It only happened to me once or twice though. Just stay far away from corners or ladders against magic and you should be fine. Keep in mind that the more you level up, the more you can carry potions and elixirs. That makes a huge difference if you struggle here and there. The shield doesn't appear, but its power is still there when equipped. It protects you but it won't block magic the same way it blocked magic in the original game. Keep playing dude. The game is awesome! :)
And if you need more advice, don't hesitate to ask me questions. And my run here shows most of my knowledge about that game. :)
@@HalDanGhor Any idea about the shields and what they do? I'm assuming there must just be some extra defense or something since you can't reflect any magic.
I'm getting kind of burned out now. After watching your first video here I realized I was severely under-leveled for that big worm boss guy and had no problem on Champion level. But once I got to the mist area it's pain all over again. I just feel like there's zero sense of progress and it's punishingly hard. Three time consuming deaths in the aptly named Suffer is enough for me today. Those potions just disappear once everybody who never used to shoot at you in OG Faxanadu has a cannon and you can't block any of it.
@@thedude5295 I guess that the shields can add more defense, most likely magical defense. The key in this game is not to get hurt by everything that you see. Learn how to fight every monster, keep your potions for the important spots and it will be easier. I can't understand why this game gives that much trouble to players. It's not that hard. It's more about playing well and being effective. It works. :)
@@HalDanGhor Yeah. I just feel it's a shame. It's got all of the makings of something really great, but it deviates too far from the original game and ends up just a little north of mediocre. I'll probably just watch your playthrough and put it behind me. I don't think I'm going to give any more of my time to playing it as it is now.
Why does the shield not show up when it's equipped? The original game clearly shows it on your character. How do you know if it even works?
The game maker didn't make it show for some reason. The way to know if you're equipped is taking a look at your inventory and see the color of your itmes, so you know which ones are equipped and which ones are not. :)

How do I get this game to download from my Emulator onto it?? I loved the original game of this. This looks hype. Is it PC Only?!? I want to download this for my PS 2 or PS 3 can I, from my Emulator!?
It's a game that you down and once downloaded, you simply open the .exe file and it starts the game. It requires no installation.
@@HalDanGhor i hope so bro. If it's PC Exclusive I won't be able to get it. But if it's something of like a NES Rom hack or PlayStation 1,2 or 3 then I can get it. We have a bunch of hacks downloaded that are Zelda 2 games. All different Hack Versions of Zelda 2. Lots of cool ones. So I hope we can get this Faxanadu Remastered version. I love the music on it too. It's awesome. I'm going to ask the Owner later, see what he says. Hopefully it's something where we can put into the Emulator, just like all those other games. If it's PC Exclusive though, won't be able to. Thanks for getting back Hal brotha.

@@HalDanGhor it's funny you mention this particular game bro. I was playing it a while back and I Cleared all the Palaces. Did everything there was needed to do, but then couldn't Access the Great Palace at the end. It wouldn't let me through the Force Field. I think there's a glitch in it!? Do NOT re-pick up the Candle 🕯️ at the Grasslands Place. When you go back to Clear it. I think that's what glitched my game, to make it so I couldn't enter the Great Palace at the End.
Im playing this right now and I bought the small shield at the first town and equipped it but my guy isnt holding it. Any ideas what's wrong?
No worries. Shields don't show on the character when they are equipped in this version of the game.
@@HalDanGhor really? I thought that might be the case but when I tried to block a projectile it just hit me. 🤷♂️ at any rate, good video, I already learned some things I didn't know about faxanadu 👍
@@NogaBlitz Thanks. Yeap, the shield won't stop projectiles. It will only increase your overall defense and/or your magic defense.

You guys fkd up the sounds!!! The best part about Faxanadu was the music and sound effects. You didnt need to touch those at all! Gah. Great new level design and all, but translating the music thru some lame string/pads was a bad idea. Please go back to original sounds!
Man, we had the choice to play it with the original soundtrack or with the new soundtrack. i picked the new soundtrack to show what was new and what had to be shown. ;)
Those hopping creatures are a guarantee to lose HP. Annoying. Can't dodge or kill them quickly enough to escape unscathed.

Funny how one gets hit by each and every jumping monster, while in the original (through skill) you never once get hit if being careful. The combat gameplay is total trash sadly. I would pay bucks to see it patched...
