Ah, Terence Hardiman. Very timely after his sad passing recently. The 90s was his peak, with his 2 best known roles, one awesomely evil - The Demon Headmaster, and one awesomely good - Abbot Radulfus in Cadfael. No, Brittas, you don't understand, you're surrounded by terrible people... And Colin.
"Sending you/someone to Coventry" is an old idiom meaning to ostracise/blank someone. Apparently, from the English civil war [1640s], when royalist troops captured in Birmingham were sent to Coventry, a Parliamentary stronghold. Edit: It's less of a personal blanking, and more like a planned effort by an entire community.
I remember when the Red Dwarf Fan club was having its Dimension Jump convention in Coventry, and I made the joke that we were all being sent to Coventry. 😂 I thought I was being clever (I'm American) and a few people in the fan club told be that it was a dumb joke. 😅😂
@@monkfan72 Would love to have gone to an RD convention. I have mixed feelings about some of the later episodes (though a lot of the newer Dave ones are pretty good), but at its best Red Dwarf is great. It's a tribute to Chris Barrie that I don't think of Rimmer at all when watching Brittas. I guess his background as an impressionist really helps him `switch character'.
Really? I didn't know that he had died - I was watching him just a couple of hours ago in an episode of Crown Court. In the 70s and 80s he cornered the market in playing German officers in British WW2 dramas - he played such roles in no fewer than four different series, by my reckoning.
I loved this two episodes, first episode was extremely funny and whole drug gang and chainsaw was hilarious. When Gordon around chaos is not far behind him lol.
Barrie is/was Rimmer in Red Dwarf, can't call yourself a nerd I don't think and not find RD hilarious! Thing is Chris Barrie went for the part of Lister, but Craig Charles got that part and Charles went for Rimmer. Essentially Rimmers a hologram of Listers deceased bunkmate haha!
I may have to rewatch the series, but while Brittas can be cruel to Colin, I don't think he is mean to Colin because he hates him. I believe the barbs usually come when Colin says or does something that Brittas would consider inept for a deputy manager.

Cadfael is brilliant.
Wouldn't it be amazing if a man named Harold Innocent really was a judge?
Yes, this episode has The Demon Headmaster but more importantly......Billy from Eastenders. XD

Terrence Hardiman sadly died earlier this month.
You have seen him before, as Wilson the bank assistant in an episode of Goodnight Sweetheart.
That's a shame, I remember him fondly as the Demon Headmaster :)

it looked like the demon head master but i can assure you it was not as i went to school with the demon headmaster .. lol a modern meme
This series is currently being shown on UK TV channel London Live, if anyone is interested.
He was the original Demon Headmaster but did also appear in the new one x
Really funny, well written and terrific characters.
47:40 "There is something on your back." Or " All praise the Great One. "
43:20 Is that the same stress machine used in the IT Crowd?

59:12 Using logic in attempting to comprehend human psychology is the same as trying to apply logic to the English lexicon.
