This was good but what i personally use is that first i draw, then i ink (outline with black pen) and then i shade the whole paper and then rub certain areas. Btw Love the Drawing of Gyutaro
Tbh i draw with both pencils and pens i could just achieve what he did without those extra things just trace with a pencil lightly and then darken it as much as you want for pen you trace with pencil then write it over with a pen dont need any extra stuff.

Well tou saw that I first blended charcoal and since it can get really messy, I drew character on a different papar and transfered it blanded charcoal. This way it's easier if you mess up something and you won't get dirty. Hope this helps 😄

I like this method… the way I’ve done it before is by drawing it in pencil first and then rubbing the vine charcoal on top of it for a neutral background since the pencil won’t erase if I rub it and then I go over with compressed charcoal and no ink this way I can control my values better
I think it’s just better to learn the planes of the head, learn where the light casts on the head and then shade with pencils. With pencils you can also do midtones and darker shadows.
