When Nike announced that they would no longer be producing any products using kangaroo leather, fans of the Tiempo series were upset. To make things even worse, when the Tiempo Legend 10 released shortly after, the news of the boots not only losing it's signature leather upper, but also being entirely synthetic, did not go over well. At the same time, the Premier 3, originally a kangaroo leather football boot, transitioned into an unspecified natural, only for Nike to sneakily change the description of the newer Premier 3 colorways to say that they were also now a full synthetic boot!
With all of that said, some recent unannounced changes have been made on Nike's own website, and it suggests that they're now realizing that they've made a huge mistake! We discuss the whole situation and what the future of leather Nike football boots might look like. Should Nike bring back a natural leather upper for the Tiempo Legend 11?

it's crazy how much we took for granted. I really believe we have passed the best era of all time for football 2000-2015 in every aspect, from the boots, to the players, to the media/games. The cleats are now terrible, the game is not the same worldwide, and the Fifa games are no more. rip. glad to have been able to grow up alongside it.

For me I think these boots biggest issue is their shape and fit. They are much more narrow than what a tiempo normally is which detracts a lot of people from buying them as many would believe they’d fit like other Tiempos from the past hence the poorer sales performance. I don’t hate the change from natural to synthetic, I think now that boots have been out for nearly a year, I’m over the change, but I can’t get over the narrower fit of them.

They stretch out just fine. I've got a 4E width. Not as good as k-leather or real leather but the 10s stretched out great.
The thing is - boots do make a difference. Not just comfort, but the shape of a boot has a decent affect on performance. Certain boots with certain shapes will change how and where the ball will touch your foot when dribbling. I’ve tried many different silos including phantoms, Mercs, tiempos, premiers and copas and for me I can tell a huge difference between all of them in how they are shaped as it affects when I dribble in and out. For me the shape of the tiempo 10 is much better than the tiempo 9, in that the tiempo 9 shape affected the way I dribble with the outside of my foot. The upper of the tiempo 10 is comfortable enough as to where I don’t care if it’s leather or not simply because the shape is better for my feet.

Exactly like I said what was gonna happen . As much as Nike want to be innovative nothing is gonna compare to the Tiempo Legends how they were made with Leather back then . Which is why I said if they would have kept natural leather or calf skin just add more stitching to mimic the premium Kangaroo Leather they decided to move away from.
Nah bro, I loved this new synthetic skin. It’s light, great acc and looks so good. I would love for them to continue it. PERIOD.

Edit: Bought multiple pairs of boots once I heard companies were phaseing out K-Leather. Next boots I buy will be Mizuno (Assuming they do go full synth bull-shit)

California (US) has a law about prohibiting kangaroo leather sales, but other than that it makes no sense
The region of California bans the sales of K-leather boots and honestly it’s more to do with politicians and many other nonsenses

@@dryiced2459There is a bit of a loophole, at least I think. Cali law applies to sales of new K-leather goods, so old/used/pre-owned K-leather goods can still be sold.

Yes! I bought a pair of Tiempo Legend 10's and just could not live with the synthetic upper. It really did not work for me. As much as the marketing wanted to make me believe, the Tiempo Legend 9 was better. I sold the Legend 10's and am now playing in New Balance 442 Pro V2, which for me, has been much better. If NB continue to develop that 442 Pro, maybe with a more aggressive sole option...that could be excellent. Just cannot beat a K-leather forefoot.
I was hoping the mistake was the announcement for the return of leather Tiempos :D My theory is the website specs were just unintentionally incorrect and they finally caught it. I don't mind synthetic leather as a concept necessarily. But my problem with the Tiempo 10 and also the Puma King with k-better is that they designed them very slim. I'm a small guy with narrow feet mind you. But Tiempo 10's feel ok when you put them on, but after your feet swell a bit from playtime they get really uncomfortable bc there is no give to the material. Sales killer when that word gets out... I don't really experience that with other synthetic material boots I wear.

Tiempo Air Legend I and II is my All time favorites.
If they want to keep the fly touch upper maybe bring back the ctr360 while have a Nike tiempo with leather and yes with the fold over tongue that we know people still love them. I don’t mind if it’s K-leather,cow leather,calf skin leather or goat leather. If the leather is treated right you have a fairly good product

Are synthetics really cheaper than leather? Because for the longest time both Nike and adidas sold full leather boots in the premier and copa mundial for a lot cheaper than their high end offerings, I don’t believe they were making a loss on those so why did they sell them for that cheap if leather is more expensive than synthetic material
i had nike mercurial elite in 11 uk and adidas x ghosted in size 11but got the puma future ultimate in same size but they are much bigger,

I have a pair of elite legend 10 and they were so disappointing,switched back to predator that has a stand alone tongue and is so much better

Personally, I love my tiempo legend 10 pro's - lightweight, "50% less water absorbance" that can actually be felt & mad comfortable. Might be in the minority here, but I'm in it for the long run. Let Nike cook!
Same ive switched from tiempo 9 to 10s and i must say it felt good on feet and the k lite synthetic feels good except it feels quite "plasticky" for me, overall tiempo 10 is solid
Nike hasn’t made a tech craft pack in a while now. Vapor 13 tc was the last to come out. When a tc wasn’t released for the vapor 14 I knew Nike was done with leather.
I gave my Son my brand new pair of Tech Craft Pack for next season. I got the last Tiempo IX IM Montebelluna K leather knowing this was happening. He likes K leather boot's an they on the way out. Cali hasn't got nothing to do with England, got one of the last K leather Puma Future Z boot's the Lazertouch pack an they are awesome 🤌🏻

Not many the Limited-Edition SE X Pearl have not sold well or the Emerald Tiempo 10 Elite 30 year's Anniversary pack. It's because of no Kangaroo Leather, they could of done calfskin like other brands that are super soft not synthetic leather.

I switched to copa pure after a decade of tiempo and i won't be coming back. They need to go bankrupt in order to learn not to mess with loyal customers
i think Nike and brands should just cycle in and out different lines on a 2 year basis. Since the tiempo and ctr360/ masteri share alot of similar selling points now other than material they overlap and compete. To avoid that they should give us 2 years of kangaroo leather tiempo followed by 2 years of a new ctr360. Most general audience wont really care so much while the enthusiast who want tiempo can have a tiempo and those who want ctr360 can have a ctr360 they just have to wait

I bought a pair of premiers cause that synthetic aint it. It is a nice boot but not a tiempo, soft leather feels best to me.

Mizuno have got more popular in the Western markets in recent years;when people like Josh,Noah Cavanaugh,Halt’s Boots and many more raving about it. Their boots are only gonna be popular

Think it’s more to do with the branding,marketing and naming that led to the tiempo in this state. You changed a key element of very well established lineage of football boots,you’re not gonna get a good response

They honestly have miss a marketing trick there when they could honestly just bring back as the ctr360 given the legend 10 doesn’t have any connection to the previous tiempo legend generations. Adidas on this end has done well by bringing back not only the predator name but also the shape and silhouette plus you look at the current X crazyfast+ or the previous X generations from X18 onwards,you can see those boots resembling the f50 adizero line.

I agree I don’t think changing the name from premier to tiempo will work given the Tiempo legend line from 1-9 always had some of tech or innovation in mind
The other mistake they've made to the Legend 10 is the shape and fit.
I'd never stop wearing Nike boots because of a material. Nike for me has better style when it comes to boots, it's more than the material but the tech behind every innovation
It's like saying you'll stick to driving 60s or 70s muscle cars because of the V8 engine (i feel like in these days those are good for collection) that doesn't mean there aren't V12s or V10s with good aerodynamics and style suitable for the future.. people are just stuck in the past when it comes to boots but times change people 🤦🏽♂️
Unfortunately boots like the Tiempos have it’s own audience and changing a key element in this case an upper material that has been the mainstay and selling point of the said line of boots,there’s a lot of people that’s gonna be happy.

For me the marketing and naming system is what kinda kills off the Tiempo Legend 10,if you had called it a ctr360 maestri 4/5/6 if you count Magista Opus 1/2 specifically version 2 as part of the Maestri line or even at the most extreme calling it Magista Opus 3,I don’t think the sales would be this bad given the former was such a popular line.
As I have said it gazillion times in here or other channels,legend 10 is very much it’s own thing and continues the CTR360 lineage rather than having anything to do with a tiempo. You look at from tiempo legend 1-9,you can tell the DNA of the tiempo lineage. The boots as a whole again it’s not a bad pair but the marketing and naming is what ruins this line. For Nike either bring back a leather upper for the tiempo or maybe just bring back the ctr360. Again the boots aren’t terrible btw

A mistake bigger than Jupiter is a serious mistake.
I think there was, and still is, way too much talk on the Legend 10 being ‘not a real Tiempo’ and, because of this, many players didn’t even give it a chance. Instead, it has been judged on what it should be rather than what it is… a top boot that performs with the best of them. Had it been given a different name, no one would care that it is not leather and it would have been judged on its actual merits and given the credit it deserves.
Changing a key component of the boots was never gonna sit well and I always maintain that these were never a continuation of the tiempo but rather it’s own thing along with being the restart of the ctr360 line.

People want kangaroo leather, it is this simple. Its not only about Nike, have you seen the sales of Mizuno? Adler? Pantofola D'Oro? Even new brands like Allure Calcio? They are booming. Nike and Puma ditching kangaroo leather has only reinforced their rivals. Thats it
Let’s face it leather boots maybe old or in some peoples’ logic outdated but these boots are still comfortable and fits really well while molding to shape of our feet. Plus leather boots I say have very much it’s established niche crowd not just for us older folks but some bits from the younger crowd who wants to transition to a pair of leather boots. I feel Nike has more or less overlooked a niche crowd of their mainstream lines

@@chanchaniceman I think its the opposite. New technology is not that different from past. Look at youtube videos from people reviewing the R9 mercurial 1998 or the Mercurial Vapor I, they all say that the difference in touch is not that off from modern synthetics. Adidas for example is now producing the predators with the same hybrid touch from 2013. The reality is kangaroo leather is king, it can be as light as synthetic (look at the weight of the Mizuno neo), it has the best touch on the ball by far and it molds to your feet better than anything out there. Downsides? For the customer 0, for the brands less profits

Agree on the tech like there isn’t way too much difference and the fact even adidas is bringing back an upper from 2013/2014 again do tell ya what we need to know.

Incorrect. The majority of species of kangaroo are not endangered. They can live in plenty of other places (North America being one such place). In Australia, they are listed as a nuisance species.
My theory is Nike want to get away from the bad press around the cruelty involved in sourcing Kangaroo leather. So I say good for them. I own the Tiemp 10 academy and got studded hard in wet weather and there wasn’t a scratch. Had it been leather it would have opened it up because it’s skin. So much more stronger comfortable and, as Josh said, cheaper materials to work with.
Interesting you’ve gone through that when I’ve been studded and stepped on multiple times in natural leather boots even something as thin as a Mizuno Morelia Neo 2. I have never had my boots suffered from “opening up because it’s a skin”. Like I’ve worn plenty of leather boots from something as sturdy as a copa mundial,Diadora brasil and Mizuno morelia to something light like a Nike tiempo legend 9 or Mizuno morelia neo 2
I 2nd the previous comment. OP plain wrong. I've been cleated whilst wearing multiple k-leather cleats in some of the worst possible conditions. Not once were any of them damaged. That includes getting cleated by metal screw-in cleats. As far as the ethics of K-leather, fact is, Kangaroos are a nuisance species in Australia.
@@thehunzz Find it really weird if you ask me. as someone who’s worn tiempo legend 7,9s and Mizuno morelia neo 2 whose leather uppers are absolutely thin. I’ve got stepped on the toes with an SG metal and not a single scratch was made.
