I was brought up a Jehovah's Witness so we were not permitted to partake in anything to do with Christmas. My grade four teacher Mrs. Havard was a very stern lady but understood and did her best to not make us feel different when the other kids were doing Christmas stuff. Even to the point of defending us against other teachers who would give us a hard time over this and other rules we had to follow as JW's. One thing she did do was read a part of A Christmas Carol everyday to the class. I had never heard it before and would close my eyes trying to imagine all of this. To this day I remember her and watch one of the versions at Christmas. So this is kind of a way of thanking her, telling others of her kindness.
40 year anniversary of this one…my absolute favorite version. Watched it’s premiere the first night my newborn son came home, born exactly 40 years ago on the 12th ❤
They couldn’t have chosen a better actor to portray Scrooge. George C Scott did such an amazing job in this role. This is my favorite Christmas Carol film. Wishing all that watch this in 2024 have a safe, happy & healthy, Merry Christmas & New Year ahead! 🎄
I don't understand why this is not the one recognized as the finest one. George C Scott - the most miserable and blackhearted Scrooge and the most magnificently converted Scrooge. Down with lies evil ugliness! Thankyou Dickens! Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou George C Scott!
I"ve been watching this movie ever Christmas since it came out, I'm now 73. Before this one was made, I watched the one from the 1951 (year I was born) every year at Christmas when it started being shown on old black and white TV. Each year, I get more emotional watching the Scrooge/A Christmas Carol movies. I've watched the 1935 version, the 1951 version, this version, the 1999 version, and last night I watched a musical version of it (not the muppets version). I never get tired of this story. You have got me beat , regarding having seen the several different ones . , by 1 that I have not seen. I too am 73 born in1951 we may be kindred spirits as to the love on this Christmas movie🎄
I’ve watched them all, too! But for me, the Muppet’s Christmas Carol is right up on top of the list. Michael Caine was great as Scrooge, and the clean humor throughout is refreshing. ❤️
Watching this movie on Christmas Eve is my family's tradition for nearly 30 years. Next month will the film's 40th anniversary. One of my favorite parts is near the end when Mr. Scrooge decides to play a joke on Mr. Cratchit by pretending to be about to fire him for being late to the office but then surprises him by doubling his salary, making Cratchit his new business partner and assists the Cratchit Family. I like that the movie was filmed entirely in Britain, the best film version of the story.
They give tours where it was filmed.in Shrewsberry near Christmastime. I've never been, but read they've preserved the buildings, such as the Cratchitt home. 😊
Who else thinks, besides this being a great adaptation, that this Tiny Tim is the most haunting version ever? Merry Christmas and a very blessed New Year to all!
Yes, the Tiny Tim in this is the most haunting. Marley, portrayed by Frank Finlay, is the scariest one. Excellent actors David Warner and Susannah York shine as Mr. and Mrs. Cratchit, and finally Roger Rees is his usual adorable self as Fred, Scrooge's nephew. The spirit of Christmas present rocks as well.

@@jenniferquackenbush7458 Merry Christmas from me, my fifteen year old cat, and my new cat of almost two years who was searching for a home - and quite literally ‘knocked’ on my door. He’s precious. My girl has yet to make friends with him, and he so wants to be friends. His BFFF across the street has moved just a couple of weeks ago and he has no idea what happened to him. He sits and looks at the house, wondering if his friend will ever come back. Poor baby. But he has a great home here, indoors out. He has a nice very warm house and he’s learning that the ‘great indoors’ actually is pretty great. He’s started sleeping inside! Learning the ropes, as the saying goes. Merry Christmas!
