      +wade5941 Perhaps the larger issue is to educate liberals on why feelings are not good to base your life decisions on. That's the next distinction to make...largely because I believe they feel it's OK to let your feelings guide you.

      @@markuschelios6891religions are different. Much of them is based on some source like books and is not feelings based. Feelings need to be reduced, because strong feelings can take control and prevent doing what told in a books.
      Anger for example will interfere with peaceful behaviour.

    • @JulieMoran1832
      @JulieMoran1832 10 років тому

      All I can think of is this quote of his; The world is a bad place. There are many wonderful people, but on the whole, humanity basically stinks.
      If you think in terms for a God-centered, faith based belief system, of which Mr. Prager is a deeply religious man, it's a Biblical principal. Satan is in charge of this world. If you believe in God and work to please Him, you will still have your faults but you'll get the ultimate reward when you die.
      Basically, Christians (perhaps most, if not all) believe that we are born into sin and into sin we will continue unless we choose God over the world. Most non-Christians, atheists, believe we are basically born good, regardless of the moral code we adopt as we grow up.
      Hope that helps!

    • @rumblebeast08
      @rumblebeast08 9 років тому

      +Julie Moran Good, but I want to add that most atheists don't believe they are not good because they subscribe to whatever belief system they want to adhere to. They can't do wrong and God forbid you try to convince them otherwise!

    • @myoung48281
      @myoung48281 9 років тому

      rumblebeast08 Where did you get that idea about atheists. We are social creatures, we become socially conditioned by the ethics of the culture. The culture has standards of good and bad, therefore everyone is subject to standards that guide them in seeing their actions as good or bad. And just like religious people we can, for many reasons, choose not to accept the values of society.

    • @rumblebeast08
      @rumblebeast08 9 років тому

      Do you not have your own values that you've accepted for yourself? Without a universal concept such as sin/religious moral standards, how could you do what was considered wrong by the masses if you consider it right, personally? I've known a number of people who turn away from religion/faith because they don't want to feel guilty. Do they feel bad if they commit sin (by our definition)? Most will defend their actions 100%...hence why I said they think they do no wrong.

    He talked about how religion of the left is about feelings and supporting the underdog. Then he says the left supports the under-dog, the down-trodden. Well, doesn't the Bible also support the down-trodden? I wanted him to go into this. I like his thoughts, but doesn't feelings have a place?

    • @emoplato
      @emoplato 10 років тому

      I can't say exactly what he would say but I think he would agree with this. Yes the Bible does but one key thing to remember is the government is not charity or a specialized focus group on certain issues. The Bible asks people to personally choose to do so and to establish relationships to be the best servant of God you can be. In government though it isn't about a choice for yourself with others it is about certain qualifiers to determine if they happen to meet them and whether or not they keep meeting them. As a human if you personally choose to do this you can create a relationship and dialogue with those whom you help. The reciprocity in this exchange is not only the fact you did it but also the fact you had an immediate result as well as the other party recognizes. Even if it is bad you can choose to be more careful or change your approach. In government though reciprocity of this kind does not readily exist so they make qualifiers with intentions. The people on the other end though know about the qualifiers and are not readily engaged with you on the exchange so they don't recognize it as charity even though the giver may have all the good intentions in the world. They recognize it as simply what is theirs and how they need to keep it that way until they can make the leap.
      It isn't that feelings don't have a place but people on the Left always come from this premise:
      The world isn't how we like it to be because others don't have enough feelings or the right ones to make it better.
      This creates a strong need to try to appeal to as many people's sentiments as possible as well as a deep routed sense of mutual exclusivity. Though like with any stance there must be something that defines themselves from others so they create words, phrases, and positions that declare ultimatums that either people must always be for or be against. When people question either for any reason they always retaliate. So, feelings not only guide intuition but their entire sense of purpose in the political realm which in the government forum always expands.

      @CharlesMolineaux 9 років тому +1

      "Support the underdog" is a classic feel-good device in the movies, and on TV, and in children's books, but not reality.
      At a certain juvenile level, we all identify with the "underdog" because we all remember being smaller and weaker than someone else.
      BUT....
      Being "the underdog" has NOTHING to do with the merits of your position.
      A homicidal drug dealer with a Saturday night special confronting a SWAT team is certainly an "underdog." Does that make him the good guy?
      Terrorists are the quintessential underdogs. If they could win a conflict politically or militarily, they wouldn't need to be terrorists. Does that make them right?
      Liberalism is afflicted with the deranged notion that somehow being strong equals being wrong, that "weakness makes right." And rather than look at what some "underdog" actually stands for, liberals reflexively support the weaker party, even if the weaker party is a psychopath.
      Sure, a story of some "downtrodden" character oppressed by some malign greater force has resonance, but is it reality?
      If you really care about doing the right thing, you must go to the trouble of learning the real facts of any situation, especially a conflict, before you decide who to support.
      Your "under dog" could be a mad dog.

    Dennis Prager is the only person I have ever heard who says everyone else who doesn't think like him is not only absolutely wrong, but are also miserable and must be secretly jealous of him. This is laughable for obvious reasons. I also find it hilarious when religious people criticize non religious people by accusing them of behaving...well...too much like a religion. When your strongest criticism against someone is that they are acting too much like you, that is a very sad argument that unintentionally says a lot more about you than it does about the one you are criticizing.
    I also find it incredible that he accuses the left of being only feelings based when religion, which is the moral base for almost all conservatism, not only challenges science far more than secularism, but has also always said the greatest evidence of its truth and validity has been how it makes people...feel. Religious people are always saying, "I know its true because I feel it in my heart." The very doctrines of Christianity tell you that it is through feelings...that you will know its true. Yet here he is claiming only conservatives look at facts and liberals are the party of...feelings. The hypocrisy and incredible lack of self reflection the staunch religious right is capable of is something that never ceases to amaze me. This man is out of his mind.

    I admire Prager greatly. However, I too am frustrated by his strange reluctance to use the Present a Perfect tense or the Past Simple correctly. He speaks several languages and is not ignorant, although one may disagree with him. I have oft wondered if these grammatical errors are ones learnt in a home in which, perhaps, the parents were not native English speakers. His stubbornness on this issue is most odd.

    This man's views on psychology are wrong. Emotions and behaviors are not completely separated or united, they are a reflection of each other. The relationship between them, who both happen to be made purely of matter, is also not simple enough to be so arrogantly judged by a biased psychological nobody.
