Last year (July 2016) i flew from my home in Houston, Tx to Newark, boarded the Lake Shore Limited at Penn Station, in a Viewliner Bedroom, then connected with the California Zephyr and took it to Emeryville in the big bedroom. Spent 3 days in the bay area, then flew down to LA, took the Southwest Chief back to Chicago in a bedroom and then flew back to Houston..loved it!!
I took my first ever trip on the Zephyr back in 2016. And in a Roomette sleeper car, too! Best scenery of the Colorado Rockies and the great Continental Divide. I loved it so.
lvsluggo007 thank you for watching and thank you for the nice comment. that music is from the movie Homeward Bound which takes place on those mountains.
You guys almost made me cry with this video. I took my very first solo trip from Cleveland to Sacramento and San Francisco last June. Loved the Zephyr!!! Changed my life!!! I'm already planning for my June trip this year. You guys chose the PERFECT music for this video. I've watched it 3 times already!😁 I love the LOVE you guys have. You're so amazing. Be blessed!!!!!!
Loved the video from a loving couple. I have traveled on the "Zephyr" before, before Amtrak. It was a cool ride then and still looks like a cool ride. Thanks very much.
Your video of the trip is really well done. I have taken 5 long distance weekend to weekend AMTRAK trips originating from St. Louis and the Zephyr was part of the trips I did in 2001 and 2002. It's a great way to see the West. The Zephyr and Coast Starlight were my favorites. This brought back a good memory of seeing the West and life onboard the train.
It was absolutely incredible, thoroughly enjoyed it. From the 15 hour flight from Auckland on Air New Zealand, my time in Chicago and the staff on the California Zephyr Amtrak service. Made some friends as well 😉👍
Great music choices to accompany your video! You held my interest from beginning to end unlike some train travel videos that get bogged down in excessive detail about the food and roomette.
I took my first ever trip on the Zephyr back in 2016. And in a Roomette sleeper car, too! Best scenery of the Colorado Rockies and the great Continental Divide. I loved it so.
I’m from the U.K. and will be doing this trip solo in November 2019, & the Empire Builder back from Seattle for the return. Can’t wait. Fantastic video guys!
What a great trip! it's always nice, when someone is doing a 'train' video to actually be on the train! Nice shots in the train.....great SF pictures too. You guys look like fun/ GREAT VIDEO....PS Very nice music too!
I did the trek on the 6 (eastbound to Chicago) from Martinez (like 2 or 3 stops from emeryville) since I live there. Was truly unforgettable!!! I’ve always loved trains and I just decided to do it I guess. Seeing this video a few months before inspired me to :)
Thank you for such a detailed video ... made all that much more enjoyable by you, both, seeming to be having such a wonderful time! I live in SF, and want to take the reverse route on the Zephyr to Chicago, then transfer to "The City of New Orleans," for a visit to The Big Easy. Friends from Grand Junction have told me how beautiful the train trip is, between there and Denver. Your vlog, certainly, bore that out. Hope you had a wonderful time here. Thanks, again.
thank you for your video, I am flying Air New Zealand from Auckland to Chicago in September. I am staying there from 22/9 till 26/9 before catching the California Zephyr to San Francisco to fly home to New Zealand
simply magic !( maybe more for an european guy like me) wonderful trip through the US !!! thanks for sharing and i wish you the best !!!! greets from France
You both did a great job on the video. I've been to San Francisco 7 years ago and went to Napa Valley, I will soon make another trip this time by train from Florida. Thanks .
Got on the Zephyr on April 2nd last year in Chicago and rode to Emeryville. Just days before your trip. What a fun adventure! Had a great time. Thanks for the video, it brought back wonderful memories! Excellent work!
This brought back some great memories, we did the same trip in 2014, might have to do it again now? It was our first visit to the US, an American friend told us to fly "Americans don't take the train!" well there were plenty of Americans on the train and as we explained to him, you don't get to see a country from 37.000 feet.
Ahhh, San Francisco my home town, I miss it, but I'm retired and it has become much to expensive. My entire family had to move on retirement because of that. Loved your video, well done.
I was going thru some UA-cam videos about Amtrak California Zephyr. I was thinking about taking it again this spring .I took it last April also. I took the Empire Builder to Chicago from St Paul, then on to San Francisco. When i got to your fresh air stop in Glenwood Springs at 8:23, I saw myself in your Video. I showed my wife the Video, she asked, "was that you?" Yup it was. I also took the bus over to the Financial District. I am sure we were on the same bus.I stayed a few days, then took Coast Starlight to Portland, then a few more days in Portland, then Empire Builder back to St Paul. I enjoyed your Video. it was a very nice trip. I enjoyed the deep snow around the Donner Lake area.
Hello from Chicago! I enjoyed your video a lot. You guys are so cute together and I like your edits. And music choice. Very epic :). I took that Empire Builder once. I’d love to take this one one day.
Nice video. I ride the California Zephyr from Iowa to California at least once a year. I'm booked from Ottumwa to Sacramento March '18. I've got a couple of days of business to take care of in Sacramento, but will ride an Amtrak California train to Oakland, ride a ferry across the bay to Pier 41 so I can spend a day in San Francisco. I'll catch a Amtrak California train back to SAC and the next day ride the CZ back to Iowa. A couple of notes: 1. The 6.2 mile Moffat Tunnel is the 2nd longest in America. The longest US tunnel is the 7.8 mile Cascade Tunnel in Washington state, on Amtrak's Empire Builder route. The longest North America tunnel is the 9.1 mile Mount Macdonald Tunnel in the Canadian Selkirk Mountains east of Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park. 2. I-70 goes through Glenwood Canyon. Red Canyon is some 15 miles north of I-70 and some 20 or so miles east of Glenwood Springs.
Such a nice video and you loving actors ain't too bad either. Actually we took that same train April 7, 2017 and may have seen the same boat mooner ( they all look alike I guess ) on our way back the same train.
Amtrak is my #1 choice for long-distance overland travel, having done two round trips between Cin City (Cincinnati, OH) USA and The City; I make it a habit to obtain a MUNI Day Pass which allows me to unlimited rides on the bus, Muni Metro, and the Cable Car....
This is a clear and well example of where the government can when the market cannot. Without the government, the market never would've been able to come up with an alternative to Amtrak.
Next time you venture to The City, hopefully their signature Sports Entertainment event, SF Bay Bombers Roller Derby at Kezar Pavillion will be skating; what would make it even better is the Bay Bombers are skating against our Midwest Pioneers....definitely worth seeing!
I am planning this trip by July. Do you guys go down on those stop overs? Coz, l want to sight see, even for just a few hours, those other states. If nit, then how do l do it? Btw, you two are awesome!!!
May Castro thanks for the nice comment! The train only stops for a few minutes each stop. But the train will stop in Denver and salt lake city for about a hour. If you want to stay in a city over night you will have get off the train with all your luggage and catch another train the next day.
May Castro, you well end up adding to the price with each overnight stop you make. I wanted to stop for an overnight in Reno but it would have added $200 to the ticket price plus a hotel.
I'm thinking of doing this at the end of this year but I want to break the journey into two and spend a week somewhere in middle America... want to find on of those classic towns that hasn't changed in sixty odd years.
Thanks for the reply you 2 lovebirds should do a TV show on railways you guys are great!!!!by the by what's that tune in the background at the start love it !!! Take care love birds
You went through the 2nd longest tunnel in the U.S the longest is 8 miles long in Washington State on Amtrak Empire Builder. Other than that great video I enjoyed every part of it!
AWESOME VIDEO!! I loved it, and so did my wife! We are doing a large train trip this September which will include the California Zephyr. One question I have is what kind of camera setup do you use? Everything was very steady and of great quality, something I’ve found difficult to combine. Thanks!!
I like they view on the california Zephyr. we are taking a long train trip . first where taking the capitoal limted from washington to chicago then we are spead 2 nights in chicago then we will take the California Zephyr from chicago to emerivlle spead wsome nights there then fly home to washington.

Best train trip video ever on UA-cam.
Thank you!
I took my first ever trip on the Zephyr back in 2016. And in a Roomette sleeper car, too! Best scenery of the Colorado Rockies and the great Continental Divide. I loved it so.

Beautiful scenery, great music, and so good to see your love for one another. Thanks so much.
YOU GUYS HAVE THIS GREAT MEMORY ..MUST BE SO NICE TO SLEEP ON THE TRAIN AND WAKE UP NEXT MORNING AND ASK WHERE YOU ARE ...
Loved your video!! Especially the wonderful music you used during the scenes in the Rockies and Sierra Nevada mountains..
lvsluggo007 thank you for watching and thank you for the nice comment. that music is from the movie Homeward Bound which takes place on those mountains.
HillbillyShoes I knew that sounded familiar! One of my favorite movies when I was younger

Thank you for watching!
I live in Colorado and have been wondering a lot lately what it would be like to take the train to CA or Chicago. This video was helpful. Thanks!
Music in the mountains gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling
I took my first ever trip on the Zephyr back in 2016. And in a Roomette sleeper car, too! Best scenery of the Colorado Rockies and the great Continental Divide. I loved it so.
YOu guys were smart enough to take a Sleeper. A little cramped but quantum leap better than a coach seat.
I’m from the U.K. and will be doing this trip solo in November 2019, & the Empire Builder back from Seattle for the return. Can’t wait. Fantastic video guys!
I did it from Chicago to salt lake city solo. Great way to travel and people are very friendly.
