Following the sad news of Ramy Ashour's retirement from squash we take a look back at one of his final ever matches (and one of his best!) in full! psaworldtour.com/news/view/6342/ramy-ashour-announces-retirement We'll be putting together some more tributes to Ramy's career over the next few weeks, let us know what you'd like to see 😃
Really frustrating to see great athletes careers anding when I'm pretty sure my work as a physical therapist could have kept them going. If anyone from PSA sees this and wants to mention it to him he could always look me up (as could Joel Makin. They both have similar muscle balance and movement patterns but could quite easily move a lot more like Ali Farag)
Martin Jefferies Quite arrogant to think so don’t you think? I’m sure Ramy Ashour has been seeing many experts over the years and wouldn’t be retiring if he still had any slight hope
@@joegreen5698 Hi Joe, I was expecting that response but you were real quick! I know it sounds arrogant . . . but I've had many many clients who'd seen every one they could find and had surgeries they didn't need to no effect but got better after I'd treated them, some had surgery booked before I saw them but never had to have them after a few sessions with me. I've tried approaching a lot of major athletes and musicians to offer my help but they have a lot of walls around them. If they didn't I'd contact them directly instead of posting in places like this. So, sorry it looks arrogant. If I ever get to work with a top flight squash player I'll be sure to let you know how they get on and, just so you know, if Ramy or Joel were interested, I wouldn't charge them a penny EDIT: a few years ago I checked through my case histories for the previous 15-years. 99.46% of the clients I'd seen 4-5 times were 'fixed'. That's not arrogance, that's statistics.
Shabana, Mathew, Ashour and who knows how Greg is doing... The end of an era, one of the best era in the sport as far as I'm concerned. Thank you Ramy for putting everything on the line, your intensity on the court was inspiring to watch.
For me the best player ever to play the game. A sad day but unfortunately he's made the right choice. It was so hard watching him struggle for so long. He always will be to me the best and most inspirational player. He completely changed the game. A true legend of the sport not just for his brilliance on court, but for his personality off it too.
This is sad for a number of reasons. Not just his health and the fact that he was such a great player, but that nobody is replacing him that can even hold a torch to his skill and, more importantly, 'watchability'. It makes watching squash today harder because you know the current field just isn't as good as this guy so you're always watching and wishing for something more.
Easily the most talented player I have watched, with the most incredible work ethic and mental strength. It is so great that he came around at all, even if we didn't see enough of him.
Sad day to see a Ramy retiring but we all get to that point some day but thank you so much Psa Squash tv fr this full match of this awesome tournament definitely my favourite one, Such a skill full player
yes but most athletes retire because they get old and past their prime which wasnt the case for Ramy. If not for his injuries he would be world no. 1 with this match being his last healthy match as proof. And i believe if a solution for his injury were to be found he will return.
Not many players make the viewers as glad to see them back in action as does Ramy. Shows his charm, clean game, skills, a different nature of game, he will be remembered for all times to come and he'll be a role model for upcoming talents to watch his game, understand the brilliance of its tactical side and try to emulate
This is what talent incarnate looks like! He will certainly be one of the very few whom we'll measure future squash greatness against, although he is truly incomparable! Seeing this match reminds me once again (AGAIN!) the farce of not having squash in the Olympics. The level of skill, athleticism and sheer determination displayed in the second game is astonishing, breathtaking even.
Squash TV, this camera angle is magnificent. Gives a more realistic perspective of the court and makes you feel as if you were watching from the stands. Please do this more often. Thanks for all the great coverage (subscriber here).
Let's see, Ramy was out of competitive play for a full 6 months, comes back, reaches the final and beats the WORLD no. 1 in 3 straight games~! Without a doubt, we just witnessed the true all-time Squash Master. May the long queues now begin to form in anticipation of his upcoming distinguished coaching career. Well done, Mr Ashour, .....very well done.
Thanks for doing this for this historic match for Ashour . This IMO the best camera angle that do most justice to the true high pace , varying low and high level of shots and we should have more such recordings
When I want to get in touch with the inner me... The me that I know is somewhere inside me... That makes me feel alive and awesome... I watch Ramy. Him retiring is tragic.
I can't believe Ashour has retired :( On his day he was unbeatable no matter who he was facing and he had so many trick shots... Without his injuries he would have been on top form but it's great to see him win this tournament without dropping a game. Video on Ashour here a must watch (highlights): ua-cam.com/video/T9RTk_zFl8o/v-deo.html
12:53 While Ashour would have easily gotten that if Shorbagy was not in the way, it was not a stroke. Yes Lets need to be given more often instead of strokes and no lets.
He had a recurring injury for years. He probably never reached his full potential, and now he's retiring... that's what makes it so sad. psaworldtour.com/news/view/3556/ashour-opens-up-about-hamstring-problems
he didnt retire because he was old, actually he was still in his prime as this match shows but he couldn't recover from his knee injury because unfortunately modern medicine can't find a solution yet to fix his knee.
At 14:00, did the refs just have a complete brain freeze? Both were wildly incorrect calls (the second admittedly was trying to be consistent with the first).

If you are doing a montage of sorts, please include his 4 corner drill/exhibition, demonstrates the level these guy's reach, cheers

squash misses Ashour - such a shame that he wasn't able to go on. The best player, ever )
Ramy has given squash fans so much pleasure. An incredible talent and magnetic personality
Hope Ramy Ashour will return someday . All the best to him
What a guy. Best to ever play the game. Huge asset to the tour and will be missed massively. Legend ❤️
The final masterpiece from the Artist.

Here is a big round of cheers to the man who made me want to pick up a squash racket. Inspirational forever!

Mad respect ✊ you will always be my idol

Awesome player

And here is me sitting realizing that I will never see him play the tour again... Lump in my throat.

As much as I like watching Ramy matches, I love his speeches after that❤️❤️
I really miss him
Rip ramy best player 💪
He didn't die,
He just retired.
Elvis has left the building....
When I want to get in touch with the inner me... The me that I know is somewhere inside me... That makes me feel alive and awesome... I watch Ramy. Him retiring is tragic.

Always a fan of him. Amazing personality and athlete. Very sorry he had to retire. But farag is a very good follow up.
Ramy Ashour, you aren’t probably reading this but your one of the greatest players every present in the history of squash.
Just realised ashour 3-0 everyone in this tournament finals 😱 incredible
Ramy ashour is an Egyptian God and he is like an alien nobody can be like him and he had the best racket skills ever
What I love is that ashor spun the racket to start. Still happen again
The only certain thing about playing Ashour is that your swift defeat will be Ashoured.
That overruled key was class
I gotta admit, I am really really sad..
He mentioned on Instagram that he will make a tournament using a new scoring system. I really wonder how that would be like!
gamolly my guess its a score system that awards attacking exciting gameplay
Farewell, Maverick
13:15 definitely a stroke. No attempt to clear!
it's really sad we have waited for him to return unfortunately at the end he retired
The camera angle on this is terrible. Really compresses the court.
The maverick
ah i didn't know he had announced retirement until now... damn
42:15... what's the name of the song guys?
Darude- Sandstorm
my favorite player, sucks so hard he couldn't be healthy all these years.
What is the racket's model ashour is using? i know it is prince.
82% of wins sine 2004... damned
12:53 While Ashour would have easily gotten that if Shorbagy was not in the way, it was not a stroke. Yes Lets need to be given more often instead of strokes and no lets.
Maybe someone someday will make a Borg vs Mcenroe kind of film out of the Ashour and Elshorbagy rivalry.
Age 30? Is that the normal age of peak performance/retirement? Some of the best guys I play at my club are well over 40
He had a recurring injury for years. He probably never reached his full potential, and now he's retiring... that's what makes it so sad. psaworldtour.com/news/view/3556/ashour-opens-up-about-hamstring-problems

5-6 game 1. 9:46
Has Gaultier retired?
goodbye elshorbagy
Don't go...
Isn’t that raneem el Welily
Getting a bit sick of the distance commentary. Time for some new blood at the mic. And in the referee chair
Some of the top players winning by playing great deference....making the game a little bit boring.... Ramy even defensive was attractive to watch!
the artist has gone...
NNNNoooooooooooooooo...........
We will miss you Ashour... I wish it were Elshorbagy's dirty tactics that were retiring...
Meastrro
Army is magic. Elshorbagy a cheat
I'm not a fan of Ramy's hairstyle in this tournament.
