    It's been 4 years and I still haven't seen Squash at this level, the pace is insane and there aren't any players left who can match that skill level. Squash never got better beyond that day and I hope we will see a new generation of players who can offer something as exciting.

    incredible game and clutch refereering decisions. Though I can't shake the feeling that ramy makes an actual effort to play through interference, while shorbagy runs into his opponent very convincingly

    오랜만에 보았음에도 샷 하나하나에 긴장감이.. 요즘 선수들이 과도를 들고 싸운다면 마치 큰 장검을 들고 매 순간 급소를 노리는 듯한 게임이네요. Ashour is GOAT to me from the past to the present, to the future.

    Shorbagy is often not given credit for his retrieving skills which always looks fairly effortless but when watched in slow motion, I think he’s right up there with gaultier, the cannon ball or jansher. He’s got a very strong core. Ramy is still my favourite but he can struggle with the deep front lunges as the game progresses.

    Shorbagy has been so dominant this year it is mind boggling. Only 1 loss in the US Open final and that's it. And now he wins the World Championship beating Ashour, Gaultier, and Matthew in a row. This is Jahangir/Jansher like dominance. His mental and physical strength are just incredible.

    These two strike the ball at a higher pace than any of the other players on the tour! Great to watch. It is a shame though to see Ramy physically weaker in recent years, as he is clearly the most talented. He still doesn't look completely comfortable lunging into the front backhand corner.
    Now that Gaultier and Matthew are older, Ramy and perhaps Gawad are the only two players I can see beating Shorbagy over the coming seasons.

    Magnifique match. Avantage énorme à celui qui va chercher les "strokes", et non à celui qui provoque les décalages...je trouve ça dommage pour votre sport. La prise de risque devrait être plus valorisée. A ce niveau de performance le défenseur aura toujours l'avantage

    Great game. But the not the best play from Shorbagy. He conveniently keeps running into his opponents and luckily kept getting strokes. There were 4 occasions when Ramy turned around and could have hit the ball and hit Shorbagy and would've gotten a 'dirty' stroke but he opted to stop and hence got a let. Don't think Shorbagy wouldve done the same.

    22:54Why did Ramy hit so easy ball?

  • @Tubulousity
    @Tubulousity 6 років тому +6

    Love squash, but one big problem I have with it, as it is refereed, is this: if a player hits his shot from the front so wide that it pops up in the middle of the back wall after it hits the side wall, and the other player can't hit it from the back because of "safety", why is it a let? EXAMPLE: 9:33 in this video. You have to offer the WHOLE wall for your opponent to hit his shot. It's not your opponent's fault you hit such a wide shot. Sorry, but that's just stupid.... STROKE all the way in my book.

    • @niffrig
      @niffrig 6 років тому +2

      Tubulousity the reason is that Ashour 'turned'. In this case Shobagy could not be expected to react fast enough. If Ashour had taken the shot before he turned then Shobahy's positioning was correct and the ball could have been played safely. Before they implemented this rule Ashour could have called 'turning' and played the shot. Unfortunately, this lead to too many injuries. I got hit in the eye (lucky I was okay just a contusion) this way.

    • @tonytan5945
      @tonytan5945 6 років тому +4

      If you turn like what ramy did, it’s a safety let. If ramy didn’t turn, it then can be a let or stroke depending on whether shorbagy allows ramy the full wall. Believe me, you wouldn’t want your opponent turning around like that and actually hitting it as it gives you no place to run for cover. The decision was good and consistent in this scenario.

    • @Tubulousity
      @Tubulousity 6 років тому +1

      I am not saying hit the ball, as that's dangerous, but award the stroke as ElShorbagy is just lingering around the middle. I know that the turning rule is necessary, but I just don't agree with it in a case like this. Shorbagy has time to get out of the way. In my view, if you hit the ball that wide, you should pay the price when it comes back in the middle and still have to allow the full front wall. Turning, while the ball hits 2 walls - side and back - is hardly unexpected. I've seen so many rallies ruined like this, due to automatic lets.

    • @flotaylor8170
      @flotaylor8170 6 років тому

      It's not a stroke because the opponent is exactly where they should be and can't be expected to get out of the way in time. Had Ashour taken the shot and hit Shobagy, Shobagy would have been awarded a stroke. It's the turning rule. If you turn, call a let.

    • @alishahid9253
      @alishahid9253 5 років тому

      Excellent discussion guys! I was looking for clarity on this. Ok so what I gather here is that if Ramy had stayed on his backhand, then it would have been a stroke unless ELshor got out of the way in time. Right?

  • @abdiver12
    @abdiver12 4 роки тому

    What an incredible shame Ramy couldn't stay healthy. He and Shorbagy would have had one of the greatest rivalries in the history of the game.

  • @jamesconnor3479

    I feel that Elshorbagy plays his squash with the mindset of a soccer player with all of his acting and pretending! Ashour puts a lot of effort into moving around his opponent creating a fair game - how it is meant to be

    • @stevebrake4676
      @stevebrake4676 6 років тому

      Wts? One could argue Elshorbagy had the right of way to the drop shot on the 11-11 ball but Ashour also had right of way to tee especially after a tight drop along the wall. Ashour should have went forward and circled around but no1 has that much time to think on sequences like these in the game of squash thus a clear let especially when Ashour is not the type of player that blocks. Crucial point that was a clear let and probably cost him the World title. That ref should no longer be refereeing and I don't care if he's a former #1

    • @watching99134
      @watching99134 6 років тому +1

      There is no such thing as a "right of way to the tee".

    • @stevebrake4676
      @stevebrake4676 6 років тому

      Maybe in the rule book but it's the most important part of the game. He had no time to make a decision after making a great shot on the move. A CLEAR LET BALL . Typical standard let ball if i ever seen one. Thks

    • @ngzijian14
      @ngzijian14 6 років тому

      Steve Brake it may have been a tight drop shot, however ashore didnt clear in time , and shorbagy was right behind him . At a pro level it would have been a stroke . Ur comment about " typical standard let ball if i've seen one " clearly shows that u have only ref for typical standard club players , which i agree would most definatly be a let.
