Billy Strings might have the chance to make a similar significant contribution over time (not the way he dresses lol!), but nobody will replace Tony Rice. He was the first of lead guitar and vocal in a major bluegrass band. Hero to many, me included.

@oldcremona Hartford had cancer for the longest time, many fans did not know this, he carried on as if nothing was wrong. He had his glitches, as we all do, but was one of the finest humans I've ever met on this planet. His achievements and contributions are countless. Great video with some very talented people on that stage. Wish John Hartford was still here on earth spreading his works.

I just happened onto this video, and while scrolling thru the comments, found out he died Christmas Day,2020.IMHO,the greatest flatpicker that ever lived[apologies to Doc Watson].Introduced by the late John Hartford[he wrote Gentle on My Mind, and many other songs].R.I.P. to both of them-and thanks for the music, guys! If i could only have 1 bluegrass album,i'd have Tony Rice Sings and Plays Bluegrass.

I’m learning this song and it will always amaze me how Tony could get the tone and sound out of a box of wood like none other! Some ppl are just born to do it. I’m sure glad I lived at the same time as Tony so I could constantly be amazed at how simple, yet extraordinary, his playing was, and will always be!

The more I watch & Listen to "THE" Tony Rice , "The" Mark O'Connor, and the one and only "THE" Jerry Douglas, the more I understand why so many people held and hold them in High Esteem. It is very special to me because it was way back when I learned the Banjo from Bobby Horton and flat-pickin' from Glenn Tolbert. I kept hearing about a teenager winning all these fiddle contests...her name was Allison Krauss. Thanks to UA-cam I can enjoy hearing the very best. I bet Chet Atkins would be scratching his head, as he watched and heard Tony Rice playing and thinking, " How do you do all that and with just one pick...show me again...very slowly please". :-)
