That bridge and vibrato system was produced in Sweden by Hagström. Guild used them too for their Thunderbird guitars.

Thanks for bringing this up. The customer had indicated that to me after I had posted the video.

I also own a 64 H-19. Today is it's 60th birthday actually. Back of pickguard is stamped "JAN 30 1964". Sadly, mine isn't all original. Around 1999, I routed it for humbuckers and replaced all of the pots in it for full size pots and Strat style knobs. I wish I had held onto those original DeArmond Gold Foils! I was 19 at the time, and the internet wasn't the vast resource of information that it is today. I had no idea those pickups had any value. I just wanted some hot humbuckers! Oops! Anyway, I absolutely love that guitar, so I guess it's okay. I don't plan on ever selling it anyway!

Don't feel bad; when I was 11 years old and I got my harmony H-19, I routed it out too ! ... for a couple of Gibson Humbuckers .... and believe it or not, bought a brand new Telecaster neck and installed it. It is so ridiculous when I think about it now ... Ha ! Kinda ' funny ... kinda' sad .... Thanks for sharing your story. \m/ ! Now I don't feel so bad .. Doh !

Hey Mike I have a 1967 Hagstrom II with the same bridge and tailpiece. Very time consuming to set up. Love to watch your work. I would love to learn more about doing the compensated nuts and saddles.

Had various Harmony acoustics growing up. TBH my parents bought me 1 guitar for my 7th birthday(though I was given a couple of others by the old man, who couldn't play an Em chord, but loved music.) They would never spring for an electric. LoL. Saying they almost went broke spending $5 (Plus 3% sales tax for my first), if I wanted one I'd have to work (or roll a drunk out side a liquor store). A friend gave me a beat to crap Silvertone/Danelectro, much to mom's horror.(mysteriously disappeared with my now extremely valuable baseball/football card collection, when I joined the Navy.)
Those old Harmony electrics get no love, but that one sounds beautiful. Love the dirty tones, nice sustain, etc.
Did they make their own pickups? Those look like DeArmands to me (actually my 3 great grandmother was an Armand, name later changed to Arment). Great vid sir. Thanks for showing the younger folks one of the more popular, but lesser known brands. Got my 1st guitar 1963, from TG&Y. LoL.

Thanks you for chiming in brother.I think you are right about the DeArmond pickups. One of the other subscribers mentioned that the ME-25 BOSS I was using ... doesn't really represent the actual sound of the pickups.... and he is right. I am usually a "Tele-straight-up " ... no effects ... kinda guy. I am like a " dog off the lease" with this Multi-Affects unit ... I'll make sure that I pay more attention to that in upcoming videos. Lol ! Thanks for tuning in .... MMcC

Always learn so much from these videos. Out of curiosity, to shift the bridge saddles, are there any designs of bridges that are built to not only move forward and back, but also side to side [apart from the models seen in tis video]? It must be a challenge on some guitars if the saddles are stuck.

I have never seen one quite like this. There is always the possibility of buying 1/2" x 1/2" brass and creating your own. I have done this in the past. Have a look at this ua-cam.com/video/d2XVPXmxpfU/v-deo.html

Hi mike, I was amazed to see this type of bridge as I have a WEM sapphire guitar from the 60s in good condition with a bridge exactly the same as this.?? The only problem is it's a 12 string! 2 per saddle. Not good for individual intonation. Adjusting posts are also very sloppy. Pretty crap. Actually . Wem = Watkins electrical music. From England.. cheers mike. Rob

Hey Robert, It would be pretty tricky splitting the difference between the octave strings ... might be easier to get a machinist to mill up some brass replacements to a similar profile. The brass will be much easier to intonate.

Amazing work and fascinating video, although when demoing the guitar sound, having it soaked in effects doesn't really give us an idea of it's actual pick up sound - it could have been a Glarry, or Squier Affinity for all we could tell.

Fair enough! You are absolutely right. I was a total " Dog off of the leash " with that ME-25. I'll pay more attention to that when I demo this upcoming '59 Les Paul double cut Junior.Cheers ! MMcC
