Honky Tonk Freeway was based upon the impact of the Interstate bypassing Route 66 and the way various communities tried to survive the impact. Knowing actually makes the movie a little more enjoyable. In the movie the town was called Titlaw and painting the town pink was part of a publicity stunt. I believe other areas of the town were also used in the movie. I actually have the DVD of the movie as well as the soundtrack. It's one of those bad comedies that's fun to watch.

The Van Gogh house was painted that way so their autistic son could find his way home. They stated he would sometimes wander from the home and it was to help him find his way back. It was his favorite work of art as well, so the parents went with it. 😊

My grandparents bought their second house here in the late 90s. They go up every two weeks to get away from work down in Palm Beach. My uncle and his family ended up moving nearby about ten years later. I love it here! Even though I miss out on nice hotels in Disney, our family will stay here and go back and forth to the parks. It's such a quaint town and I love the downtown area. Where the Old Joe statue is, there is a nice boardwalk to check out the local wildlife on.
Thanks for sharing this Adam, makes me want to take a trip back down there and see my grandparents for a few days again.

LOL. That bird which surprised you by suddenly diving in the water is a Double-crested cormorant. They are fairly common in and around lakes and rivers here in Florida. I've watched them hunt and actually catch fish. They will lie underwater among the vegetation and wait for a fish to get close, then they strike by using their sharp narrow bill to spear the fish! Amazing birds.

The highest elevation point in peninsular FL is just outside of
    Mount Dora , it’s called
    “ sugarloaf mountain “
If you’re ever in the area , look up
“sugar loaf mountain road “ and go to it , it’s in the minneola/howey in the hills area .
Get ready to have your mind blown at how big of a hill it is (Florida standards)
You can see the whole lake apopka and downtown Orlando from atop the hill .
In my opinion it’s one of the most beautiful ( Non costal ) spots in the entire state .
Lake county is one of the prettiest counties in Florida .

"badboybootz8" since we both live next to Mt Dora, do you think you have free time to come join a group and help me with something important?

Hey Adam was just watching a video about California's Slab City! A young woman, Cornelius Vango runs the Library there... and then here I see another Vango on your video. What a strange coincidence!

I visited Mount Dora once. I bought a rubber ducky for my bathroom and some tasty cupcakes!

Eustis is just a couple of miles away and we have one of the finest lake front parks in Lake County.

Great video on Mt. Dora. Can't wait till you do a video on Havana, Florida and it's history. It's in North Florida.

OMG, Adam, I really want your life! Just to wander a new town and be rained upon, so welcoming with high stress jobs. Love the Starry Night house! Even the sidewalk is blue! And, you aren't talking to inanimate objects, you are talking to us! Unless you are also doing the talking off camera too!
