  • Watch me fumble through a last minute decision to start a pork butt on my Lifesmart 15-inch mini kamado.
    The time crunch was stressful but it paid off!!
    *I forgot to mention I used apple wood chips in the mini kamado for a great smoke.

    Thanks to your videos, I believe I'll be getting one to take on family vacation in 2 months. And if course will use regularly at home, beats firing up a full size kamado every time

      Awesome! Happy to help. This thing is surprisingly heavy and moving it is definitely a 2 person job. Hope to hear of your BBQ adventures!

    Did well there mate, i have a similar type of small Akorn Junior kamado and it takes some skill to nail down how the vents to keep it in the range of not taking off like a missile with heat. :) Thats was a big piece for it as well.

      Right on! Appreciate the support man! Agreed, these little kamados are finicky but results can’t be beat once nailed down. I’m also surprised I was able to pull this one off! Hahaha!

    Awesome video!! I have the exact same kamado from Lifesmart, Love the way it cooks.. My firebox needs replacement. Parts aren’t easy to find. Any suggestions I’d surely appreciate.
    God Bless

      Thanks Tech Spot! No doubt, this little kamado is impressing me more and more as I get used to it and hope to get more use as I modify it.
      Have you tried contacting Lifesmart directly? Their customer service number is 657-341-0362 and I believe the SKU is SCS-K15B. Hope this helps and let me know what you find out.

    Good vid, I have the 15" lifesmart coming in a couple weeks. Gonna watch some more vids of yours. Not sure what I am going to start with but maybe a brisket.

      Awesome! Thanks for the support! The nice thing about this mini kamado is it can basically do everything - sometimes better than a full sized kamado. As long as the size is right, I’ve noticed that things like pork butts turn out better on my Lifesmart for some reason. Happy BBQing!

    Thank you for your video. How much charcoal did you use (2-3? lb) to cook for 5 hours at 375F. Did you add more charcoal in the middle of cooking or you just put a lot of charcoal from the beginning. Thanks

      @budgetdadbbqbrewing268  3 роки тому

      Thanks Roma! At 5 hours I filled it up about 75% of the way with natural lump coal. The pork butt was 5lbs. No coal refill was needed. Thanks for the support and happy BBQing!

    I would like to know the mop sauce ratios and the rub proportions. Thanks! I just purchased one of these exact grills. My first grill ever. I was a bit intimidated, still am but watching your videos has helped!

    • @budgetdadbbqbrewing268
      @budgetdadbbqbrewing268  3 роки тому

      That’s awesome! So glad to hear you got the grill and having fun! Happy to share my mop sauce. Feel free to adjust to taste:
      1.5c apple juice
      1/2c apple cider vinegar
      3 tablespoon brown sugar
      Pinch chili flakes
      1 tsp kosher salt
      1 tsp pepper
      1 tablespoon molasses
      Heat up in microwave in mason jar. Shake to mix well. If you are using a sprayer, omit the flakes and pepper as it will clog it up.
      Happy BBQing!! (:

    Random question do you have any tips for vent settings on this cook my grill is getting way to hot even when I try to cut down the air flow

    • @budgetdadbbqbrewing268
      @budgetdadbbqbrewing268  2 роки тому

      For sure! I’d first start with a smaller amount of coal. Light only a small section vs heating all coals up at one. Lastly, only keep your vents wide open until you hit the 50% of your target temp. Then cut both vents by 50%. Then 75% closed at 75% to your target temp. When you are getting within 25F degrees of your target temp, cut both vents by 90%. Let it ride for a few minutes. Then once your temps settle, slowly open your vents by small fractions. On my kamado, it’s not unusual to have my top vent 90% closed and bottom vent 90% closed when doing low and slow smokes. Hope this helps!
