In 4th year med school now. tbh I think you got shafted for something ludicrous. I get why the medical school wants to protect certain information and rules, but their system is generally so backwards that they bring these problems on themselves. I bet a lot of people actually were more knowledgeable at the end of medical school than they would of been because of your drive. If the school doesn't want students doing shit like this then they need to make their own drive or similar thing with all the resources they feel like are reasonable to be release (lectures, notes, books in their elibrary, examples of assignments, etc.). Instead they hide all the shit away and so everyone goes looking somewhere else for it and its unregulated now.
Also, somewhat unrelated, I don't know about your experience but I am genuinely livid that shitty lectures still exist in medical school. Like just have someone who is a good lecturer create a recording and use that for 4-5 years instead of having some brickwall of a teacher do the lecture over and over again.

i know this comment is a year old, but ill answer anyway. its probably more that sideshow made the school lose money/credibility off of people buying those copyrighted materials from the respected owners. the copyright owners are less likely to give the school access to the materials and the schools own materials cant be profited off of because of the skydrive sideshow put up.
i think that had sideshow stayed in med school (e.g. not purposefully failed) he'd be fined or more seriously punished, which might be why that person recommended he just fail and leave for academic reasons rather than theft of copyrighted materials
      hopefully this makes sense

Am in medical school now. This is common practice (although our school doesn't have it AS bad since professors change their questions more often). There were numerous flashdrives that went around that just had this mega document called "The Bible" on it. Textbooks (often the same book but multiple different yearly editions), professor lectures, videos, out of school resources used for board studying that would cost literal hundreds of dollars (thousand plus in some cases) were ALL in "The Bible".
I consider myself as having a good moral code, and would say that the vast majority of my class are good people, but NO ONE hesitated to use "The Bible" or had any qualms about it. We already pay thousands for college, then pay thousands for med school, and that's not even counting the thousands we have to spend on resources like textbooks. When the internet exists and people can easily compile this stuff; it's no wonder that people choose to pirate it all! SOMETHING has to change for higher level education in the future because we are practically forced into either being super wealthy, accepting that we will not be in the green until our fucking late 30s or 40s without much debt we have, or just stealing it. Which do you think 99.99% of people choose?
It's funny; I have a flash drive that literally has thousands of dollars worth of material on it (only 2 years outdated now; although will probably be shit in 5 years due to how fast medicine advances) that sounds pretty close to what you had. I'm sorry you got caught, but what the hell were you thinking leaving your real name on it? You should've known someone was eventually gonna rat you out, either because they got caught like you said or because they decided they were some moral angel who had to ruin it for everyone.

Not sure if you're serious about suicidal tendencies but take it from someone who's been there in a very similar situation - life isn't defined by this shit in your youth. It's so easy for things to change in ways you'd never expect or to find joy in places you can't think of right now. When I look back at when I felt like that, I realise now that I had such a narrow view of where life could go or what would happen. Life is unpredictable and the only way to ensure it finishes on a low point is by ending your chances of it improving and killing yourself. It's super hard to take an optimistic or wider perspective when you're mired in a shitty situation, but give it time.

5th year medical student here and have similar problems with my school as well and it involved snitching too.
They teach you year in and year out about empathy, mental health, burnout, treating people with dignity/trying to help no matter what and a bunch of other important things.
Meanwhile they try to mentally break you down the entire year, they send literal threats which they call 'warnings' for a bunch of stupid stuff (attendance, learning outcomes, policies etc...) and the curriculum is like you're in military school where they embarrass you if you don't know something.
Also, when they get the opportunity to make an example out of a student (to set a precedent) they not only forget what empathy is but try to literally ruin a student's life whether it be through kicking students, barring from exams (as has happened with me for the most moronic reason) or some other form of penalty which literally destroys you (mentally and financially).
So I understand your frustration and sympathize with you and it's BS that you cannot do anything about a situation this unfair.
From my experience I learned that systems such as medical school cater to: snitches, liars and those who do not owe up to their mistakes (honesty is not the best policy because those who lied did not get the same treatment as I did).

It's saddening that higher education in the UK has been sliding towards being a business, with all of the petty nonsense that comes with it.
The uni cares more about protecting some IP than churning out capable graduates. In your tale, the person who actively _cheated_ via submitting someone else's work gets to stay with a slap on the wrist, but you get the heave-ho for sharing information. Legally-speaking you shouldn't have shared the PDFs, but it's small beer in the grand scheme of things. They should've just said, "We know about this. Can you take it down?" and been done with it.

The entire medical school system, Leicester uni in my case, is a shit show of individuals who will gun you down at any turn. Is it any wonder why many doctors are incompetent? its because the curriculum is designed to make you struggle and its COMPLETELY POINTLESS to mental health, wellbeing and career successes. Anyway I left that shitshow started my own company, and now I make at least 1.2 million a year. So yeah, fuck med school, the faculty will do whatever it takes to destroy you at any moment, exam, career, and ambition.

You did what most students don't, ppl at my school treat sharing past papers like it's cocaine, I hate the secrecy, we should all be helping each other, if you're lucky they share a paper with you they may even say don't share it with anyone else.😏

    Hey,
I'll be starting medical school this Fall, and since I don't have anything to do until July, I figured I would get a head start in my studies. I was wondering if you are willing to share the link to your skydrive?
also you seem like a funny guy, subscribed.

Is that just a normal thing there? Why do they get so bad about people simply finding example essays, textbooks, lectures, and other things. Do they NOT want them to revise and do their own research? I don't go to med school, I'm just in a regular university studying an education degree, but they literally encourage us to do this lol. As long as you reference it all and at least try to look at the already provided reading list, you're fine.

I did the exact same thing with a bunch of exams on my 4th year of med school. Some idiot snuffed me to one of the teachers, but all he ever did was tell us he knew. That man was a fucking legend.
Also Sideshow, be thankful you never got to be a doctor. You're living the meme dream in LA and I'm sitting on 12 hour shifts and long-ass surgeries.

Academia is overtaken by greedy oligopolists, control of information is to them more important than spreading knowledge.

@@deidara_8598 it's meant to be incredibly difficult to weed out people who shouldn't make it, to procure the highest quality physicians. Do you want it to be easy to become a doctor? That would be a bad idea imo.

i totally agree @Chris W, who the fuck wants to go to a doctor that cheated their way through school? I'm a firm believer in "fake it till you make it", except in circumstances where human life is directly on the line.

Not much to be ashamed of. With regard to intellect, I would rather be someone who failed med school, rather then someone who succeed at something most people would find easy to achieve. Just getting into med school is a challenge. And the system isn't designed to detect when we peak, as individuals, and how those peaks influence the rest of our lives. Getting into med school is statistically, almost as impressive as graduating from med school. Similarly, the worst NFL players are, nevertheless, good enough to make it in the NFL.
