At first, i thought Xingxing was really selfish for not accepting Quan. But now i understand why she chose to be practical rather than being carried away by impulse. Look how he doesn't even flinch a bit before lying. Initially i was upset about how he felt left out. But it's completely his problem that he isn’t grateful to the people who really helped and cared for him.

I can't believe people are still excusing LQ's actions using his circumstances. I understand that circumstances can make anyone go astray however, at this point it's not only about corruption but the way he was disrupting the treatment of the man who helped him so much. He is a thankless man with no concise. He will rather choose a wrong path than coming clear to his parents about his situation and confront them. That was where his ego is coming in and clouding his senses. He has lost his morals at this point.
Totally agree with you. He used his poor background as an excuse for all his wrong doings. He thinks that everyone owes him the things he need because of his poverty. I felt sorry for him at the beginning but not anymore because he is too lazy to help himself as Mr Wu pointed out to him.

However he forgot who got him the job and helped him and started demanding things as if everyone owes him his happiness and wealth. He compares himself to tou Tou but compared to her, he is nothing but a coward. She had a hard life as well however, she never went against her morals or treated her poverty as a way to do wrong doings. She has criminal records but that's all because she was always fighting for justice. She has high sense of morality whereas he is nothing but a jealous man with a twisted mentality.

I felt really bad for LQ with the way his father was just pressuring him so hard like he could never meet his expectations but he has dug his own hole and did it by not appreciating the help he has gotten. He isn't entitled to anything. I lost my empathy when he didn't even hesitate to lie about what happened

At the beginning, ZLQ was already struggling and with the pressure from his parents, and that increased. As an Asian myself, I know what it’s like to have your parents rely on you when things go bad. And with Asian parents they have this mindset of their children repaying them for what they did for them; housing, feeding, schooling, and more. I get that. But parents needs to understand that they chose to have children, the kids didn’t choose to be born. Parents can’t expect kids to reward them for supporting a life they created. And yes, sometimes parents can ask for help from their kids but they also have a life, and they have obstacles they have go through.
ZLQ, as the oldest child and the only one who can support the family, has been given this responsibility and the pressure is really building up. It’s like water and a cup. At the beginning, his struggles were very little and the cup was only filled with water for at least a centimeter. But as the pressure and the struggles start to increase and the “due date” comes closer and closer, the cup starts to fill up. Right now, ZLQ’s cup is overflowing. That build up broke through and it’s now messing with his mind. He is not thinking straight. He is only thinking of his responsibility as the only able body in the family, whether it be legal or illegal.
Of course, his worries is understandable, but at this point he only chooses to see from his perspective. I get that he thinks that it’s unfair that STT became a successor even though it’s not actually her identity. But, can’t he see that people are helping him. Not one of his friends or masters have ever done him any bad. In fact, they’ve all tried to help. WSD helped him so many times by recommending him so that can have a job and earn money for his family. Same thing with PSY, YXH, and RTZ. And with STT, she even offered her bed, when even her future wasn’t really set on. And TXX, being a woman alone in a city, she agreed to live with a man who she doesn’t even fully know with her in her apartment. Her decision of not dating was good. Sometimes love isn’t enough. She was thinking of what her future would look like with him and what it would be like to have a family with him and saw the holes that they won’t be able fill due to financial problems, and chose to reject his feelings and hers.
ZLQ needs to understand that although RTZ has a supporting family, connections and wealth, he still had to work for everything he has now. He even saw how strict RXZ was to RTZ from the very beginning of the series, when RTZ didn’t diagnose XMM properly. RTZ was basically forced to live as a doctor since he was toddler. The toys he played with was designed to look like tools for doctors. RTZ didn’t choose to become a doctor, even so, he worked hard. He wasn’t lazy. He wasn’t expecting anyone to help him when he did something wrong, instead, he expected his father to scold him.
With STT, ZLQ is envious of the opportunity she’s been given, regardless of her real identity. Even so, she worked hard, she didn’t give up when she thought she’s had enough. She was able to push through with life’s challenges. STT is an orphan, has been since she was a kid and grew in an orphanage. STT has never been given a familial love, but she’s still stood up and continued. STT entered adult life at the age of 18 when she should be in college. She started taking delivery jobs and making only 4,800 yuan. She’s had her fair share of struggles and yet she persevered. STT even has “criminal” records, but all of those was in the acts of justice. When she was called to become the successor, of course she’s had doubts and used that as a way to earn money, and I mean, who wouldn’t. But in the end, she studied hard-even when she was never told to do it. And she may be a prodigy, but that can only get her some distance.
ZLQ actions and thoughts have blurred and became corrupt. And yes, it was led by his situation but instead of telling his parents his struggles, he chose to keep it to himself. He chose to lie in front of people who cares for him, instead of telling the truth. Everyone has helped him so that he can succeed and have a future for himself and his family. But he chooses not see that and is blinded by the pressure and jealousy. He has become selfish and doesn’t acknowledge the helpfulness of other people towards him. ZLQ’s morality is gone. He is not meant to become a doctor. And his acts of crimes such as theft and attempt of murder earns him a spot in prison.

THIS. I've been looking for a comment like yours that can properly explain ZLQ's reasoning empathetically without unnecessary judgement.
I have mixed feelings towards him because although I can understand his envy and resentment, he could've realized that STT and RTZ didn't choose their conditions but still make the best out of their situation.
I also believe that his cycle of self-pitying and blaming others which ends in his inferiority complex, resulting in a vicious cycle, hurts himself as well. As you said, the pressure from his family (love the water cup analogy btw) and limiting beliefs make him blind to the kindness he's been given.
Although he needs to take responsibility of his actions I mainly see a man desperate in need of emotional support.
A very interesting character and I hink we have a lot to learn from him!

Él pudo haber sido mejor de lo que ya era, pero disidió ceder ante su propio sentimiento de inferioridad (desde mi pov él siempre fue buen médico por eso me hubiera gustado que dejara todo a un lado y solo siguiera adelante luchando de forma honrada) y ahí comenzó a tomar malas decisiones
De hecho todo empezó con xingxing, ella le dió objetivos que el esperaba cumplir para estar con ella, casi se convirtió en un oficinista olvidando sus estudios solo para ganar los suficientes para estar con ella y ayudar a su familia. Ya agregando la presión de su padre por ayudarles monetariamente siendo él, el único que aporta a la economía de su familia,si tan sólo hubiese regresado a trabajar al centro médico y hablado con sus mentores ellos podrían haber ayudado a su familia😢

Yes, it was without subtitles for a while after co watching the premiere which started on time. So I just watched without English subs, as good exercise to listen carefully/ Most of what was said was not too difficult to understand even with some hearing impairment and slowness to read Chinese subs. But I do read English ones more quickly except when they are disappearing too fast, so that just gave me an incentive to re-watch and check my listening comprehension😂.
And the RAW version did not stay too long : we did not have to wait hours or days and we did not get hastily bizarre machine translation, so I am satisfied !
