There are places where you can check to see if a perfume has gone out of production. My theory is that scalpers are buying remaining units in bulk as soon as they find out, then selling them off on eBay at inflated prices to cash in.
I think that there are several reasons why some of fragrance prices are rising. One is that some have been discontinued which increases their value, another is that fragrance prices are out of control and leading people to search elsewhere for less expensive options which fuels the demand and price increases of the formerly "less expensive options". Another is the rising "grandma" fragrance trend, or the rediscovery of the value of vintage fragrances. People are also in general more aware now that fragrances from all era's have value, that people collect them, they wear them and they search for them and buy them leading to speculators buying them up to resale at increased prices. I remember when I first started out I'd find loads of great fragrances at antiques malls, no one saw value in them. They thought they were all too old and mostly sold for the bottles rather than the liquid inside them. Not any more. Since the popularity of like fragrance tok and the big online fragrance communities those days are sort of behind us. But it depends on the fragrance right, some are still affordable, just depends.
Yes. All of those things are happening. I’m wondering how far the whole “ granny trend “ will go. It’s such a stretch from what is popular now. Thank you, as always, for your comments.
YES I thought I noticed that phenomenon too! And oh my gosh I was considering that Cafe by Cofinluxe because new Opium does not smell like old Opium anymore but I'm not spending $75.00 for it!!!!! Yes Anne Klein Blazer! A great one that most people don't know about! Always fun to spend time with Corinna!!!
Maybe this is a reaction to the increasing prices of Middle Eastern fragrances? They've gotten super popular and now they're getting a bit more expensive, so maybe there's renewed interest in older and less expensive perfumes and that's driving up prices?
My fear is actually that the market is saturated with new inexpensive perfumes, including the rush over recent years of middle eastern, resulting in falling sales of old cheapie standbys. Add to that the current trend toward gourmands has created a base of buyers so far removed from the scent profiles of older perfumes that they don’t hold any appeal to new noses. Sadly, by the time we invariably trend away from current profiles the affordable classics will be long gone.
@MadTracker Eesh, that's valid too. I've got a selection of Middle Eastern and generic perfumes you can find in the US, so I'm still just figuring it all out. But I definitely want to check out some vintage leaning perfumes
@@hilaryraydecker1151 I’ve only bought a few ME perfumes because I had a bad experience with the first two I had. I’m sure I’ll try more, but yeah the market is fairly saturated. I’m trying to buy up all the nostalgia scents I can, particularly the older ones before they disappear.
I love Covet. I just grabbed a bottle off a eBay for 17.00. I love it. I used to love Coriander and I decluttered it. I think I originally bought it in TJ Max for 10.00 many years ago. It's just to herbaceous for me. Jovan Musk for Woman is 11.00 on eBay right now, btw. Great video, as always. I love love love your channel and your taste in fragrance.
Most of these perfumes are out of production now, so that's why the prices are crazy - you're lucky to have them! I think Jovan Musk is still bieng made but maybe they're just keeping the gold top musk oil range and and getting rid of the orange capped Jovan musk?!
@@MyPerfumeMap sometimes perfumes disappear when the company are putting them in new bottles - Jovan have just released some new layering musks in more modern bottles so maybe they'll relaunch the old ones?! Elizabeth Arden just did that with some of their perfumes - they've put them in plain bottles!
SJP has closed her website, so I guess that means she won't be making/selling fragrances anymore? I know you can find them on the gray market but I'm guessing they will be harder to find soon.
I’ve been thinking about getting Cinnabar for a while now but it’s recently gone way up. I think it’s scarcity. Even my local Marshalls seems to be lacking in much of a selection lately.
I recently ended up buying Jovan Musk but it was in a differet bottle and smelled like hairspray. Im scrambling to find a replacement of the oil version and hoping its still maintaining its original glory. I love that you still wear the oldies but goodies, they deserve more attention in the youtube community.
Some Oscar De La Rentas that were at one point under 30 bucks are now going for much more. I do have some back up bottles because I came across some at local perfume store.
this is very weird, i remember seeing the cafe for under $10 a couple years ago and some of the others you've mentioned. so glad i got a vintage 1920s (!) bottle of emeraude a few years ago for $15. same with bill blass hot. things are strange out there for sure.
Many of the Elizabeth Taylor perfumes are discontinued. I heard that Revlon was outbid by another company for the whole Britney Spears line so it's up in the air what will be happening there.
I bought Coriandre at TJ Maxx or Marshalls years ago for like $5.00. Loved it so much and still do, my office mates did too and I bought several bottles for them. When I was a little girl I used to sneak into my aunt's house (attached) and go upstairs to her 1930s kidney-shaped dressing table (I have it now) and try her perfumes. She was partial to Emeraude and Youth Dew.
I bought Love by Sophia Vergara at the grocery store when they were closing out their perfumes. I paid 15 dollars for it. I have Liquid by Hard Candy. I wore it on occasion back in the early 2000's. I saw some selling for 200 dollars! One of my favorites, Stella by Stella McCartney is going for over 200 dollars as well. I am being very stingy with what I have.
I know someone who wears Emeraude. It’s absolutely deeply acrid. Jovan Musk is pungent and average. Some of these oldies need to go away. I LOVE Sophia LOVE and so does my husband. I bought it for 38.00. It’s delicate and powdery. I have a HUGE very expensive collection of perfumes. I’ve spent THOUSANDS of dollars on fragrance. I’m insane I know-but it’s an addiction, that’s why I have such a strong opinion. I’m 55, I’ve worn perfume since I was 14. My first perfume was Tatiana by Diane Von Furstenburg. It was 21.00 back in the early 80s. Now it’s 450.00 IF you can find it. I’m sure it’s turned because it has been out of production for the last 40 years or so.
I’m a couple years younger than you and I love older scent profiles, including classic chypres like Emeraude, as well as the ubiquitous musks of our youth like Jovan. To each their own 🤷🏼♀️

You know your stuff! That Blazer is so underrated.
Thanks for sharing your perfumes 🙌🏽🤩

Jovan Musk is almost $20 now here in Hawaii and it’s still going up (I check every time I walk in stores).

Really enjoyed the concept of this video

Good to know. I will be keeping my bottle of Stash then.

My Marshall’s mostly has dupe types of fragrances. Every once in a while they get some interesting stuff
My local meijer keeps Jovan Musk in stock for around $15. Not sure if they ship

Corina , thank you so much as allways.. love from Portugal.

Interesting
Jovan Musk oil has gone up like crazy!!!! Wow!!! 😿It's one of my favorites. I have SV Love, maybe I can sell it to get more Jovan Musk Oil? 😆

$5! It’s such a beauty!
They can stay on the price gougers shelves! I will play hardball and keep my coins.
Emeraude , I believe, is discontinued. I think markets like poshmark have something to do with it.

Emeraude was discontinued in 2023.
I did wonder where you got all the cheap prices!!
This past April I paid 7 dollars and 22 cents for Cafe Cafe.
I like it but is it worth 70$? IDK about that! 😆
I got it for about that here in Jamaica. Actually forgot I had it as I out it away in storage. Going to take it out since it's cooler here
I have enough fragrances to layer for all kinds of new scents! Help us out fragrance reviewers.

I have blazer too. I have a small bottle. Have you tried Perry Ellis 360?
Love PE 360!
