Freaking dope dude. YOB is freaking wicked AF. I really dig watching this channel take off. Obviously you've been putting in the hard work. Seriously kick ass dude.
Indeed!! Fuzzlord if you do Another video with him someday i bet me and alot of others would really like to hear about his approach to picking, he got a unique style using his pick/fingers
Mike is so humble and down to earth and so incredibly accomplished all at the same time. Total respect for his musicianship. His guitar tone can fill most small to medium sized countries.
I stumbled upon YOB about 6 months ago. I'm not a big fan of "stoner rock" or "doom" or what not, let me rephrase that, I dont care enough to know what genre a band is in, if I like em I like em. I saw the interesting guitar in his hands on display at the CD store, the cover of Live at Roadburn 2012. I was like, "who's this dude? Cool lookin guitar, never seen one of those". I'm glad I judged a book by its cover, or was curious enough to hear what that guitar sounded like. Great band, interesting sounds.

Mike uses such unorthodox chord voicings and progressions. It would be so interesting to delve deep into his background and how he comes up with these. Unique balance between beautiful and brutal.
I think it's when you like playing open notes and discover that you just can alter the tonic of each chord to achieve a completely different effect. Try it yourself, learn some songs and you'll see what I mean!
I really appreciate that and so glad you liked the video! It was really nice of Mike to make the time to stop by and talk about his awesome gear setup and play some music for everyone!
It was wonderful hearing Mike talk about his setup. That discussion of the phaser v.s. the flanger was really beautiful, the way he summed it up. Fantastic video, thank you.
Had same effect on me at Desertfest Berlin last year. I went for my first Electric Wizard show, but also was my first YOB show earlier that day and they blew me away more than EW tbh, much better tone on all spectrums. Especially since how echoey the venue was ! Their song , the lie that is sin gave me goosebumps !
Thanks so much for this video! It’s wonderful to hear Mike explain his sounds. Eric did a great job asking questions that got him to expand, super interesting.
This answered so many questions! From riffs to pedal settings to PEDAL SETTINGS FOR CERTAIN RIFFS! Really covered all the bases and sounded killer. That Dark Master is kinda callin my name.. Thank you Fuzzlord!
That was a great gear tour with great questions by Eric. I’ve loved Yob for years; it was fun to get a peak into not only Scheidt’s gear, but his unique process. Side notes: I’ve been a proud owner of the Shepard’s End and an Eterna for years. My best bud has a first run Quantum Mystic and a Monson guitar.
It's so good to hear him talk about lead and delay..I'm the same way I can play rythem but my lead consist of pentatonic runs and that's it..takes a man to admit that
I can't remember where mom lived at the time, Bend or Eugene maybe. She's old but still a music head too, and was like "Bobby, you know YOB?" "I've been telling him(Mike maybe?) all about how you play in a band too in Tacoma, and I'm so proud" lol I was like "Yeah show him my music and get me on a show lol!" Nothing happened, but I thought it was pretty wholesome and cool. I wonder if he remembers or if was actually a different member. Cheers!
Been wanting to see a yob guitar rig rundown for years especially after seeing them live in 2016 so thank you very much. Now im off to buy a phaser pedal!
I have to also say that I bought a Monsoon guitar a few years back after hearing Mike talk about them and it is by far the best guitar I have ever played or picked up. I've got the Pale Horse No 6 and it's just a gorgeous guitar that works amazing downtuned. It's a shame that Dunables have gotten way more attention then Brent's work, which look nicer and play better.
Ehhhhh, Sasha has a far better rep than Monson Guitars. One thing that lowered Monson in my mind was finding out that he used Carvin blank necks on about half of his work. That was about a decade ago, not sure if that's still the case. But it took away from the idea that Monson's are fully custom-made instruments - which the U.S. Dunables certainly are.
Adore Mike and have been fascinated by his gear for years. About half of my pedalboard is based on his exquisite YOB work (Whirlwind phaser, EQD Avalanche Run, Warden compressor, Black Arts Toneworks fuzz, Mr. Black reverb). Thanks for arranging such a special look with such a special musician! 🖤
yes a very incredible guitarist and holy shit way to navigate those pedals love your band man got many albums!! thank you for the great music and lyrics
Answered a few questions about Mike's tone for me. Great video! Especially intrigued by that Eterna pedal. Was shocked by his string gauges! Git'cher fuzz on!
Man his sound is always perfect! Now I really regret selling my Quantum Mystic... oh and please release a version of your dark master with tap tempo🙏🙏🙏
@@imantssafronovs9245 really good. I picked one up a couple of years ago just on a whim as it was cheap and it's never come off my board. Doesn't really sound like tape, more analogue, but has tap tempo, an expression pedal port and is stereo, and most importantly it sounds really, really good

Mike is easily one of my all time favorite musicians to grace this planet.
He is so badass!
Man those chord voicings are incredible. Mike should be such a more well known guitarist for his writing and technique. YOB 4 LIFE

Man....Mike's fret board hand is so precise and efficient with chords/shapes/transitions. He's like America's doom equivalent to Johnny Marr.
Mike is the reason I started to play guitar. He is and will always be my biggest inspiration, so happy to see him here.
Discovered YOB last year. Their song Marrow is now my favorite song of all time.

Mike uses such unorthodox chord voicings and progressions. It would be so interesting to delve deep into his background and how he comes up with these. Unique balance between beautiful and brutal.
Revolver did a mini doc on his life. He came from a sort of bluegrass background musically with a small cult punk scene in his small home town.

„Perfect Mix of brutal and beautiful“ describes the sound of Yob perfectly 😅

But now I know about this kickass pedal company too, and I subscribed.

"That perfect mix of brutal and beautiful." If that doesn't encapsulate Yob, I don't know what does.
Glad to see Fuzzlord pedals on a legend's pedalboard. About damn time!
