I'm a Registered Nurse from UK, I have my aus registration and full permnanent residence visa. I haven't made the move yet because I do not want to be caught in the rental crisis, so i decided to hang back for a few years in UK to save enough so that I can get my own place outright soon after I arrive. Renting sucks !

You'll still need to show the previous tax assessment notice before beginning the mortgage application, so it looks like you'll still need to rent unless you're paying 100%.

    Hi Chioma,
All the best at your new house. If you don’t mind me saying, the stairs way can be seen from front entrance meaning money is always running out the door (no saving) therefore if there is a way u can put a mirror (small type) to get reflection out towards the door it would help !
Oversea students without any rental history find themselves facing difficulty of securing a place to stay. So I believed you were lucky to get somewhere to sleep at least. Things happen for a reason. Be happy and wishing your family healthy and soon having a house of your own without the hassle of looking for rental property 😊

Have you considered getting an extra mains powered stove? Or putting some rugs that you like over the carpet. Try asking the owner / real estate for a new oven, it's tax deductible for the owner to buy an oven. The tenant cannot deduct the oven from their taxes.

They should pass the "Life is Fair Act" to stop things like this from happening. $2,000 USD per month is RIDICULOUS for what these people want for such a small place!! It's better to have a mortgage of $1200/mo instead of paying these ripoff fees.

I believe these homes are a deal compared to where I live in the U.S. I live an hour outside of Washington D.C. in the middle of nowhere. My neighbors are renting one bedrooms inside their homes for $2,000. Renting a single family home is much more. I guess Sydney is cheap compared to America.

@@williampizzi7402 You have to be a MORON to pay over $2000/mo to rent anything!! You get *** ZERO *** equity by doing this!!!!!! Renting for $500-1000/mo is one thing. But paying $2k/mo to help somebody else pay their mortgage is LUDACRIS!!! These people seriously need to have their heads examined! As soon as my landlord told me that he was going to raise my rent 10% per year, I immediately went out and put $8k down on a 3 bedroom house using FHA financing.

      @@CarMaintenanceGuyhi there.
you obviously don’t live in Australia.
To purchase a basic apartment in Sydney you need a deposit of anywhere from $60-300 thousand dollars. Median price of property is $1.6 million
Median rental for an apartment is $735/week (yes, we pay weekly) and this is for a crummy apartment that has thread Bear carpet and mouldy walls
To get anything decent anywhere near the city cost upwards of 900 per week.
Many people travel two hours to get to work every day so they can pay a bit less. And you need to live in a big city because that’s where the jobs are.
We are in the middle of the housing crisis and we let in too many migrants and international students who take up the rental stock which pushes prices up.
The conundrum is that we need migrants for our economy, but we don’t have enough housingto house them.

Even if the house has been on Month to Month lease, you will still get 4 WEEKS NOTICE. More so when you as a tenant wants to leave, you only need to give 7-14 days notice. • @lifewithchioma

Oh in our case it was as good as getting kicked out. Same day we got the email about the landlord intending to sell, was the same day the selling agent came knocking. Very next day he arrived with painters and we slept in a house inhaling fresh paint fumes. Next came carpet cleaners who moved furniture outside to the backyard while I was out and left it there. I ended up with a back injury that kept me away from work for days. Home stager, cleaners, photographer, electrician etc coming and going everyday. A week's notice at the very least would have been appreciated. We made the decision to move pretty much on the spot because it was getting a bit much. Added to all of these, the existing property manager was holding some beef because the landlord decided to use another agency for the sale and we realised we were about to be caught in the middle of a fight that had nothing to do with us so we had to move.

You usually need a big deposit to get a mortgage. Many people who rent can't save to get a deposit.
Also, banks are much stricter these days in how much they lend out to people 👍
We're very grateful we got into the property market back when we did.
Renting or buying in these times is much harder.

Why so choosy if you’re only a renter given the situation right now?
If you want to get all your tick boxes better buy your own house 🤷‍♂️

No, they don’t. It is the responsibility of the outgoing tenant to clean the house and carpets otherwise the landlord will take it out of the bond.

As an Aussie, I am not a fan of foreigners coming in and taking our rentals! We have few enough available rentals as it is. You're a nice person, but look at it from our perspective. If you have an Aussie partner then obviously this doesn't apply.

I really feel sorry for people who are renting houses today in Australia. It’s just a nightmare. But I wish you all the best in your new house. It still looks nice. Enjoy while you there.

She wouldn't be in Australia if they didn't beg for nurses to come in and work. Why don't you fill all the shortages instead of complaining?
