The work you do is so very intricate and its not always clear to the viewers just how intricate because they are only viewing output direct from your microscope. Micro soldering is an art all of its own and is different to traditional soldering in many ways. Casual viewers may not appreciate why you use the techniques you do and how small the tolerances you work within are. Once again a brilliant video which was both engaging and educational. Thank you for sharing your skills with us.
Yeah its like trying to handle a qtr grain of rice if not smaller sometimes! Microscope not optional...

@@exo-zaddy4886 RTX 3000 cards use HDMI 2.1 which is actually better than DP 1.4, but only some TVs can use 2.1 to it's fullest and only 1 or 2 PC monitors I know of can use 2.1 to it's fullest extent (can run 4K144hz or 8K60Hz without requiring chroma subsampling, while DP 1.4 needs subsampling for 4K144 and absolutely is required at 8k60).

I want to see more details about the home pc. That looks like Alex built his computer while thinking "outside of the box". Maybe my eyes deceive me. My friend would salivate over this video card. My friend had to settle for a $750 founders edition Nvidia. I am glad Alex was able to repair the hdmi port because I know how important the card is to the customer.
Why were the fans not spinning at the end???
hahaha you made me laugh itś not good for you

I had anxiety all the way through that video. Soldering the hdmi connection was mind blowing. I’m in Culver City. You will get 100% of my future business
Now that is some difference to the store looking at your computer Setup at home. 🤣 i did not expect that.
the words professional and professionalism in rework soldering is outside the scope of this demonstration which has illustrated creating potentially more problems down the track.
you could choose some of the adjacent holes using a different type of hdmi connector.
That was really bugging me. It seems the had extra mounting holes for just this situation. Got in done tho I guess.
The way you alter the components to make it fit is out of this world as most techs would reject it if they dont have the exact part. Love from Tamilnadu, India.
Great video. I'm a service technician and I primarily work on two way radios/duplexers/repeaters. These videos are great because I get to see how other people do the same things I do, but on a larger scale. What kind of flux are you using, what temp are you running your iron, and what items do you use to insure proper ventilation?

Great job
take it home to test haha, If I was the customer, I'd let you keep it for a few days and have fun
Im sat watching your video as its my morning routine with a nice cup of tetleys TEA. I love to see how others carry out their microsoldering work. being an expert in this field many of you guys dont really understand how small these components are that we have to deal with and the pressure when someone trusts you with a piece of equipment that is so expensive - GREAT JOB
PS. I have my airpods in and when you changed to your phone in the store i jumped out of my skin, I actually paused the video as I thought someone was in my house the sounds on that phone rocks 😃 put your aiprpods in and watch the video back.
had to stop reading at the word TETLEY!jks
Your home PC setup is just as insane as your workshop! Your rock dude!
whats interesting is that the hdmi connector on the pcb had the footprint for 3 different types of hdmi connectors
I guess Nvidia made their own for this sick monster to prevent repairs when somebody kills the hdmi or display ports.
Wouldn't be the first time. Once upon time (damn I'm old) on a GeForce 2, somebody killed the VGA port. That's an accomplishment. But we thought "eh, it's only a port" and took one of an older card from the scrap pile. Had to find out, it doesn't fit. Took some time to get one, but after 4 long weeks, the customer could get his card back, he was a Counterstrike 1.x player, classic Counterstrike.
He was happy, we were happy and times were harder but relaxed in that regard. Nowadays, people piss you off and I'm glad I'm out of PC support.
He could easily use the holes next to the original connector holes without bending any pins of the new connector
@@floris1200 would depend if pins lines up though
You make it look so easy. I'd like to get a nice little kit for soldering and start practicing on dead motherboards.
how the hell is that price justified? is it gold plated with genuine diamond screws
You made that look easy! I have the same issue on my MSI 2070 Super. I also have a rework station as I build my own FPV Racing drones but the fact I cant repair a USB connector without bridging legs makes me think I should pay a professional such as yourself to do the repair.
4:35 A new viewer will probobly say "What kind of sorcery is this?"
Low melt solder combined with hot air may be new to DIY'r and grunt soldering techs, but professional techs working on expensive and delicate boards have known for years. I was introduced to it by ZEPHYRTRONICS around 20 years ago. Their low melt systems were approved by NASA for use by contractors prototyping and reworking aerospace boards. Good stuff. I'm happy that NF introducing his audience to this awesome tool 👍.
idk why but every time he uses the wick, it is satisfying to watch
Could have simply bought a display port to HDMI adapter. /facepalm
@Vitor Esteves Or maybe the owner worked for Putin?? Maybe Putin does not know the difference between a band aid and an adapter. Maybe!!
@Vitor Esteves it truly is. The people with his mentality cant think outside of their own narrow world vew
I just sent off 4 cards to you! Can’t wait to hear back, you seem super professional and knowledgeable. I still have a few more cards and I can’t wait to have them done.
Haha you look excite to test it on your computer XD.
Also your computer very gaming style ;)
This is some expertly repair. Very fun to watch.

Great video, excellent work.
I've used an ear syringe bulb (drug store) for clearing out holes - set bulb on opposite side of heat, and puff a blast of air. Works great for what I've done.
I was lucky to get my 3070 at launch price.
lucky one.
people called me stupid for paying 700 usd for my 3070, who's laughing now
i remember 2 moths ago when 3070 was on the price which I considered as "oh it is too high" I had money but I got brilliant idea "let's forgot it and wait, price must drop after 2 months". so now I regret it. today it cost double as was before. Now I cannot buy it.
Got lucky with Best Buy's drop last Friday. Was able to grab the RTX 3090 FE
I got my 3070 aftermarket edition for 720 and it was so worth it. I couldn't find one for under 850-900 a few weeks later
ONLY this channel could make a video like this. We’re talking about the most densely packed electronic hardware in history in the form of the most powerful GPU on the market, and he’s like “yeah sure, lemme take a look at it”. And here I am thinking it’s a miracle when I get a single SMD component soldered/desoldered from retro 90’s gear I play with.
I'm sure these cards use DP as well I actually prefer DP over HDMI. I guess the user of this GPU uses multiple monitors with the card.
The display port on my 4k monitor is the only port that supports amd freesync.
omg the cap and vrm density ;D sick card but probably a nightmare to work on. I admire your work more and more with every video I watch!
Alex let us see your pc!! I built my beautiful baby I want to see yours we just got a little glimpse of it, what are your specs?
Job well done! I am considering learning how to do this specifically to repair video cards. I'll be getting myself a hot air rework station soon. My goal is to be able to repair a broken 1080Ti, which I may be able to get for myself. I think I just need to reheat the solder balls under the RAM chips.
he could of just used the display port...
Maybe the monitor of the customer did not have a DP port, but he could've gotten a Display Port to HDMI adapter too for like 8$.
Maybe he’s using it on a tv and needs the hdmi 2.1 port
Just like my dad with the ColecoVision video games consoles back in the 80s.
Gave us kids some fun testing out his repairs at the workshop.
Plot Twist: It's scammer and probably kept that card for himself.

If you look at the die or the chip itself, it's not that much bigger than the last gen 2080 Ti, but it's got 2x more cores and is 2x faster. Shows the generational leap in performance from Turing to Ampere.
Honestly probably one of the first 3090's to be repaired.💯
Crazy price for just a graphic card.
Nice work. Thanks for sharing
It kinda makes me sad how reckless people are with their tech. I envy your steady hands, could probably be a surgeon.
i love that you say "solder" not "sodder" :)
You didn't need to bend the pins on the new port. The board has holes for that type of port as well.
theres nothing like the sight of solder when it flows beautifully.
Dude is a wizard……I could watch him work all day. What exactly are his qualifications, if anyone knows? Not being a critic at all, just genuinely curious what education route someone takes to do this kind of work…..it’s interesting AF 😂
Very nicely done! Curious why the owner of the card didn't simply use one of the available display ports, instead of sending the card in for repair of the HDMI?
Was I seeing wrong but there was mounting pads for that connector. They usually made pcb that support few variants from different manufacturers of that connector. Think case where you have these boards laying around and manufacturer can't deliver that connector. So they have at least pads for few different manufacturers parts.
Note: That seems like VR accident where you were tripping the cord and destroy HDMI or DP connector.
I like your home setup. I'm thinking of going for an open/test bench style case now cos they look really practical and easier to keep clean. Great job on the fix.
Looked great until I saw the kids, fuck that LOL

That card has a few extra holes and pins for different type of ports.
the extra holes around the hdmi port are probably for the displayport connection that would be on that card if it was a quadro
Whoever broke the top of the range gfx card just wants to watch the world burn... while others are struggling to their hands on low to mid range cards. Well done on the repair. Great job!
I mean shit happens to everyone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My 1080 has been running fine for 5 years. And can still play new releases at 1440p at 60+ FPS on higher graphics. I will not pay $2000 more than the card is worth.
Looks like the holes that are next to the holes that were originally used, are used in case of different types of connectors… maybe you could have used those extra holes, instead of squeezing the legs together?

I run a computer repair shop myself; the only reason why I can think that a customer wants the HDMI port to work is because it's a HDMI 2.1 port which carries a 4k signal @ 120hz. The question is with your repair does your replacement HDMI port a 2.1 spec? cause if not this can create future problems for the customer or resell value if it doesn't use a 2.1 spec.
It's not the connector that makes 2.1, it's the hardware and cable. All connectors have 19 pins and has nothing to do with HDMI version control.
Sir a kind video , very informative , please make a separate video to learn on circuit checking method , ic checking methods and test all circuit method , thanks at all sir
