    All you have to do to put the axle bracket on is to stand the unit vertically on the back legs and fold the top legs down. This gives you all the room in the world to work. You don't even have to bend over or get on your knees like you would need to if you flip the unit over and laid it on the floor. Also, laying the screws on the unit and then lifting it up and moving it around is a good way to lose them when they fall off and roll on the floor to who knows where.

    I think you did a fine job explaining this assembly. I do want to comment on some things I recently learned and the saw stand, adjusts and something I learned over 40 years ago working around diesel mechanics. First and most important is that there are no parts available for this stand other than the 2 parallel mounted, mounting brackets, that’s it as of now. That was just reinforced about 15 minutes ago when I received a response from Harbor Freight on parts availability. He said they are working on it. I told them that Hercules is their flagship line of products and not being able to support each and every part is unacceptable to me. More on that later. Next, the two aforementioned mounting brackets have a captured sliding nut that you screw the socket head screw, lock & flat washer to. This may sound nit picky but a seasoned mechanic watched me assemble something while on break one day. When I got to putting the lock washer on after the flat washer he stopped me. He asked me “what are you trying to lock”? I said what??? He said ok, you don’t want this coming apart, but you put the lock washer on upside down. I said really? He said yeah, you did. He asked, what are you trying to keep from coming apart or locking it so it won’t? The nut. Let me show something. He laid the lock washer on the bench and said depending which side you lay it down one end, where the split is will stick up higher than the other end at the split. He said you want to lock the nut, so put the lock washer on so the “higher” edge will contact the backside of the nut before it’s tight. He said that will lock the nut. So all that said when you install the lock washer on the socket head screw, make sure the higher side of the two ends at the split, is touching the underside of the head of the screw. You want to lock the screw, not the flat washer. The flat washer is only there to help distribute the pressure. That’s not a criticism, because 40+ years ago, I didn’t know that. The last thing is, and I found out the hard way, make sure before storing, two things, the extension on the wheel end is where you want it, and tighten the knob. Next and important is slide the material support out enough so that the stand in the storage position will not tip!!! My reason for this is twofold. My saw stand was standing up, without the saw attached, my material support down by the wheels was not extended out enough to make it stable even with the two little tube feet. I inadvertently hung something on the handle that was sticking up on the opposite end, and it was just enough. It threw it off balance and it tipped over. I was sick. Needless to say, I immediately checked it out and it did appear OK at that point. Later this fall I got to looking at it. I wanted to clean it up and mount my new saw on it. I discovered that the top material support with the roller and stop on the support- (while folded and standing), -arm hit the floor and bent it. I took it have to take it apart. I had to remove the three screws in the black plastic housing with the lever in order to do that. It was at that point I noticed that the black plastic Little housing with the lever was cracked. This was a result of the stand tipping over and the roller portion hitting the concrete floor. It also broke the black plastic base housing as it is called. #32 in the HF owner’s manual. Now my part irritation, I called Harbor Freight on Monday and they do not supply any parts to this saw stand. I thought that was really odd, being a Hercules brand. It’s not available. The only thing you can get are the two miter saw supports, that’s it. So I’ve emailed Harbor Freight over this past weekend and in regards to my comment, I received a reply this morning. It’s still a work in process. My personal opinion is any product at Harbor Freight that is Hercules level, should have all parts available for those products because that is their bread and butter. None of this is intended as a criticism to you. I think you did a fabulous job. I just love passing on knowledge that I have and hopefully if I’m wrong, somebody will set me straight. My lock washer trick has serve me well for over 40 some years. And everyone I’ve explained it to said they didn’t know, and they appreciated it. So you take care I wish you all the best with this, Stan. I would be curious to know what was your opinion of the Home Depot one did you look at that one at all it has the 12 inch wheels on it. And you commented about your your blue stand. Your orange saw well. Those are Denver bronco colors so if you’re a Broncos fan your gold. Have a great day and I’ll see you in your next episode.
    One final thought, in regard to my broken black plastic base piece, after removing the three screws from the black plastic base, I took out the entire extension arm. I drilled out the rivet because you can’t get that black housing off until you do. I cleaned the crack, thoroughly with rubbing alcohol to get all the oil and fingerprints off of it. I then ran a little bit of superglue on both sides of the crack and then I put that little piece with the cavities on the backside that you can’t see when it’s assembled facing up. I left that overnight and then the next morning I mixed up some JB weld, and I drizzled it into the cavity where the crack was. I smoothed that off and I left it for about three days. I then took it out of the vice and cleaned it up and then I sanded here and there where there was a little bit of glue residue I couldn’t get off and then I lightly dusted it with some semi gloss black paint for plastic. And it seems to be holding up just fine.
    Thank you!

    Thanks for this video. I'm only in the beginning part where you're attaching the wheel axle holes on to the unit, itself. YES, you have to unblock and fold in the leg in order to get those nuts/bolts in there. I lay the unit up on the opposite side, then faded the both legs down and out of my way. So much easier that way. Easy access and nothing to balance. When I got to the extensions/rollers, the stopper screws wouldn't go in because the holes were blocked by the plastic of the end cap. I had to drill it out for the screws to be able to get in there. HINT: It's easy to see which way to orient the extension/rollers, as the screw hole needs to be facing out. REMINDER TO VIEWERS: be sure the roller/extension with the FEET sticking out the side is installed on the wheels end of the unit. Thank you again for this video. It helped a lot, especially you're specifying tool sizes! 👍

    I've completed the set up, have successfully folded and unfolded with my saw attached. I have to first say, theres no real place to grip the stand in the area where you're hand is holding while folding up the first two legs. That said, I noticed on the bottom rail of the blue metal piece, where the the tire axle travel through, there are 2 holes. Then, I noticed the wiered placement of a (pointless) handle under the unit...a handle you'e likely never going to use? What is that handle for? to carry the stand when there's no saw attached? Fine, but It really needs a comfort grip/handle where your hand grips the bottom, while holding a lot of weight and the metal edge cutting into it, uncomfortably, while trying getting the legs set up or lowering it down. Those 2 holes offer a way to perhaps add a handle of some sort.

    • @EverythingInBetween22
      @EverythingInBetween22  Рік тому

      Yea, I think that undercarriage handle is for carrying the unit if you can't roll it... or to hang on the wall. I agree, there needs some sort of handle... and not sure what holes you're talking about. I know there's one on either side for the push-button to snap into when opening/closing the legs. Maybe I have a different version. Will check it out tomorrow and double check.

  • @actionjksn
    @actionjksn Рік тому +1

    Seriously it's bolts going through holes with nuts on the other side we really don't need to actually see the detail of that. If somebody cannot imagine what the bolt looks like sticking through the hole they are probably not going to be able to even use a miter saw. The first 10 minutes could have been shown in about 3 minutes. If you would have flipped the stand over it would have been easier to put together and film.
    If the rollers keep sliding down after tightening up the knob from heavy boards there is an easy fix for that. The paint is very glossy all you need to do is take some 150 grit sandpaper and rough up the paint and they stay up about 10 times better.

    • @EverythingInBetween22

      @@EverythingInBetween22 I don't make videos but I watch closely what the successful channels are doing. If you can do some scripting in advance and streamline some things, it will help you with views and upvotes. And who doesn't want more views and upvotes?
      Like if you get the piece in a good position and get a good 10-second clip of one of those bolts being tightened, and then mention that it's the same for the other three, that could move things along a little faster.
      Also if you know what you're going to say in advance, then everything will flow a little better.
      You can get programs for a computer or laptop that will give you a teleprompter, and just have that sitting really close to your camera. I think there are apps for Android tablets and Apple tablets as well.
      It might be something worth looking into. The stuff has become very streamlined and organized so that content can be displayed in a very timely manner that flows without forsaking valuable information.
      I do understand that people are visual because I am one of those people. But if I see one of those bolts getting installed and tightened and you say just repeat that for the other three I'm going to get it. And like I say I'm a visual person who wants to be able to see what's going on as well.

If you write something out to do on the teleprompter use voice to text. And then one thing I learned about riding is that proofreading is very important. My wife is a college person and she taught me the best way to proofread is to read it out loud. For some reason it allows you to catch things that you wouldn't normally catch.
      One thing I do know is that while some people have success with long form videos, the most popular stuff is where you can keep it down to 12 to 15 minutes. People just don't have time to listen to the longer stuff. I think 12 minutes is kind of The Sweet spot. A lot of that can be done with editing. Where you might do 30 to 50 minutes worth of video and then cut it down to about 12 or 15 minutes.
