Many thanks Juan. Just fixed my 2010 Focus using your method. This problem doesn’t begin overnight. Owners will notice sometimes having to jiggle the key to get the engine to turn over for a few months before it finally will not turn over at all. I removed the PATS transceiver for better access to the pin. Be sure to reinstall the transceiver or the car will not start (key is not identified) and the PATS light on the dash will flash quickly.
My man, thanks so much. I had jumped out my starter motor so knew that was good, swapped the relay, and replaced the ignition switch. Was about to buy and jump in to a neutral position switch change when I saw your vid. 15 minutes of work and a penny's worth of tape and I'm up and running
Hey Juan ... thanks so much for doing this video. You posted it 4 years ago and it is still helping people like me to avoid ongoing aggravation and unnecessary cost. You are a great teacher. Salud!
Jeff Your Right and Having Had any More do to not really my cup a tea, Meaning time not easy aleay bring busy, Glad its still out there, Thanks for Response
Like many of your other comments, we had already spend $60+ dollars on the ignition and still no start. It was 11:00 at night and my son needed to work the next day. We were pretty frustrated and defeated. We scanned a couple videos and were thinking about changing out the key switch when we came across your video. We laughed and said, "you gotta be kidding. . .well, we have to try it." We spent about 15 minutes, joking about putting cars together with duct tape and baling wire, followed your steps and had it running. It turned a very frustrating midnight hour into laughing, and tipping a little glass to you. Thank you. :-)
Lol I understand but for sometime the easy way doesn’t hard plus on correct repair will cost, then again one doesn’t know the after tomorrow what can happen let’s say get a total out for whatever reason you won’t feel that salty/bad that invested much time and money on it you know. I’m glad you and your son spend that good time together 😁
The hysterical laugh this produced out of me when it ACTUALLY worked was terrific. THANK YOU so much Juan! This was such an easy fix to a problem I feared would be so much more time and money.
I never even realized how easy the car should be to start. It’s always been in need of a tough twist to get it going, but recently has been near impossible to get it started. Now it’s so smooth! Thank you!!!
Well, I want to thank Almighty God for directing me to this video. Folks, this works. Took me longer to check out at Home Depot ( just kidding), than to repair. Shame on Ford for not having a recall on this obvious defect. Took all of about 20 minutes, which means 10 minutes for you. Juan, you get the You Tube video of the year award. It's ok to pray over your car. Be surprised what you can do In The Name of Jesus!!!!! Again thank you Juan!!!! Well done.
I followed the steps exactly and this reaved my issue! I used electrical tape and slit it lengthwise in half and wrapped 4 3 inch pieces for a perfect solution
Thank you so much for sharing this video! This issue had already bothered me since I got my focus two years ago and today I finally fixed it because of your video! Back to few month ago, I went to the Ford service center for maintenance, and I told technical adviser about this issue. He gave me the quote approximately about $300 for fixing the whole key system, and today I used a little piece of mental from a root beer tin and tiny little bit tape to fix the problem literally costs zero! Anyway, thank you so much and hope you have a wonderful day :)
Been fighting with mine for months. It finally quit completely and I was ready to rip the whole steering column apart and replace all of the ignition components like so many people recommend. Tried this as a last hope, not expecting it to work, and it's now working better than the day I got the car over 4 years ago. All thanks to this video and 1 little piece of duct tape.
Juan!!!! You are the man! Fixed this baby up in no time. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. You saved me a ton of time, money, and frustration.
Your sent from heaven thanks for this I was killing my fingers daily trying to start my focus now it's 1 easy turn thanks to u the fix was super easy 👌🤙🤙
well I’ll be damned! someone already tried to use the black duck tape method on my car(i bought it used), & thats why it was messing up the first time, when i took it out the previous tape was messed up, i used some black electrical tape. I start a new job tomorrow and this SAVED my life. thank you!
Worked great!!!!!! I had the reolacement cylinder and my mechanic said i was crazy and it was not going to work.. When it did... he was completely.shocked Thank you.. this was a first vehicle for a friends son
The ford dealership wanted to charge me almost $2000 to diagnose and repair this issue with my focus. I found this video and fixed everything for $100. Thanks for the honest help!!!
Awesome fix! Wish I'd found this video first, was ready to start buying parts. Following your video took it apart and found someone had already been in there with teflon tape but it had gotten squished. I took a piece of aluminum not much thicker than a beer can and cut a little square that fit on the flat side and scotch taped it on and presto! Problem solved in 10 minutes! Thanks so much for posting this!
I just used this method to fix my car, mechanic was quoting 480$ and this method worked instead. Thank you so very much for this. I toast a celebration beer in your honor tonight.
Hey Juan, thank you so much… I tried replacing the module, after a Machanic told me that was the problem. WRONG ….had to return it. Then I saw your video and it solved the problem.
Thanx for the easy quick fix. Took longer to watch the video than actually fix....was very easy with the instructions you provided. Wishing I’d have looked this up sooner instead of messing with it for 3 years. Didn't have a 5.5mm socket but took an old ammunition casing and snipped a piece of brass to shim a 6mm socket to remove the screws. Love a good hack.
Juan; you the MAN !!! Thank you, thank you, thank you !!! Always a big fan of duct tape. Simple cheap fix. You are a God send to so many of us that can't afford to take our cars in for repair. God bless !
Gracias Juan your trick with the piece of tape fixed the problem. I share your conclusion that the problem was not in the relay section. I place my finger at the relay and did not feel the relay vibration while turning the key. I did not see the worn out section and place the tape anyway and that fixed the problem
@@juanmena1155 As for others having replaced the keycilinder with new ones and still having problems. Is this not a design problem on the car and should be a recall issue. 2008 Focus. The starting problem was progressive over a six month period ending up with me not being able to work for three days. For a while I could fiddle with the key and start the car. Undoubtably this was due to wear as stated in the video. The repair worked for me. Used black tape cut lengthwise just wide enough to cover the side of the cylinder without overlapping the end. Took four complete turns around. Make sure you snap the black electronic ring device around the face of the cylinder. I think this is the chip reader for the key. Had trouble removing and replacing the bottom steering column cover. Otherwise easy. Time will tell if the tape fix will hold up.
