Adding Four Feet to My CNC Router Parts 4' x 8' CNC Router
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 лип 2024
- I have added a 4 foot extension kit to my CNC Router Parts CNC router table. It consists of 2 more legs, two 4 foot sides, and their accompanying linear rail and rack gear. There is also one more section of cable tray. The purpose of the extension is the allow me to make an adjustable vertical clamping surface so I can mill the ends and sides of objects.
Some of the tools used in this project

Cantilever Clamps: amzn.to/1TJmAFx
Milwaukee 18-volt Compact Drill: amzn.to/1sj855F

Frank is the Bob Ross of woodworking. Great way to start the day.
great comparison :D i totally agree with that o7
It amazes me how you do all of these videos! Planning it all out, putting it together, the camera work and then editing it all. Fantastic work Frank!
Love seeing how things are assembled. Looks like CNC Router Parts really has their act together.
It never ceases to amaze me how you have managed to entertain and/or educate me consistently with every single video you create. I'm proud to subscribe to your channel as you have been "bellworthy" from this first show I saw. Thanks again for another wonderful video Frank. It is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Those still frame animations never fail to crack me up. That little wobble of the table feet was classic! Few people realise how labor intensive that kind of stuff is. Thanks for continuing to share your work and passion through this channel.
I really like how CNC Router Parts hands you these little helper tools, to make the whole process go easier. Goes to show that they really think about their product, and their customers.
I feel gypped - that was only a 2 foot extension! Really good ideas and it gives me something to ponder about extending my own table. Thanks and cheers, David.
I swear these videos are therapeutical! Keep up the amazing job!
Seems like a straight forward kit. Looks like they did sweat the details, like including that bit of rack for alignment. Very nice.
As a few others have said, awesome that CRP has the foresight to send along a gauge to align the rack gear. Their attention to details like this is, from my perspective, a powerful sales tool.
Cheers,

Hi Frank! Love these videos and your work... Keep it up!
Can’t wait to see the projects you create on this big boy.
Always a thumbs up. Well done, sir.
Most Excellent Mr H Thanks for sharing.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
I love the CNC videos!
Pretty much my dream tool in a dream shop. Someday. Congrats Franks.
Really cool Frank! 👍👊
We miss you mr frank & your works
That end sequence with the light switch is incredibly subtle, but a perfect way to end a video
Keep up the good work and videos.
great! i really enjoy your videos.
Frank, That is one BIG CNC table!! Keep an air mattress nearby for those naps needed on late night builds!
Very cool 😎 Frank
just casually sitting on my bed w a glass o wine and *boom* one of the best evenings to imagine - great video as usual :D
Wow, super cool
I know you're gonna turn out some great stuff frank
English again - technically I suppose he will be turning out coded tool passes on the CNC and turning things round on his nearby wood lathe. But we will be happy to see him turning material into real project parts either way.
Hey Frank, Love your videos. That black plastic stuff for the cables is called "cat track."
You came up in my list and I read: ‘adding YOUR feet to my cnc machine.’
The fact that this didn’t alarm me, just made me curious makes it evident you are indeed a nice guy.
He puts as much work into making his videos as he does the wood pieces he makes. It's always a treat to see everything come together. It's relaxing to watch. :)
love it sir
Guardo sempre i tuoi video
Wonderful
Salute.👏
Molto bravo
I like the new outro
I just wish they would have packages that includes everything. Went to their site "oh, the 4x4 standard kit for $3100".... doesn't include legs $500, doesn't include the steppers or controllers $1500, Doesn't include Limit switches $250, Doesn't include Router Mount...... and so on. Hard to compare prices when you don't know what's needed to get rolling. Granted it looks like a solid machine.
OK, gracias por sus videos, thanks for your videos

Frank, when you laid out your shop and or built it did you plan for this update. How much more room do you have for growth/addiction toys/tools?
yesss. Drag Chain :)
nice set up Frank, this weekend I'm going to play the Linear Rail drinking game. :)
lol
Hello Frank. When I worked for a machine builder the techs call the cable track "Cat Track" I never ask but I suspect it may have came from looking like Caterpillar tracked (or similar) vehicles. In any case I have more often than not heard it call "Cat Track".
What is the reason you want a bigger table?. Are there big parts to cnc that are this huge?.
Great videos. Do you know approximately how much the raw gantry weighs (no router attached) on the 4x8 pro table? Thanks
I don't know exactly, I would guess 100 to 150 lbs, but that is a guess.
Did you still use the bent allen wrench?
as this is a dual y-drive drive machine - I was wondering about how it keeps square. do you have two y-axis endstops that square it up when it's powered on?
it seems to stay square, I should run some tests with the new length.
Is there a noticeable "click" at 8:38 over the rack transition?
I can hear that too
hummm... I will have to look at that.
Frank, great video! Any update on the "click" noise? My table has that same issue. Can't pinpoint what is causing it.
Still using that bent Allen wrench from the last build?
yes, sigh...
Fundraiser to buy Frank new allen keys?
WOW! That's one large CNC machine. Can't wait to see what you come up with using that extra space........... :)
he has many videos of him using the tilting table on the old CNC router
oh neat!
i was so sad that you were losing functionality with the new router
My biggest disappointment in my childhood was that I never had a Meccano set. Now 78, I'm making up for it by watching Frank assemble/modify his CNC leviathan!
Is it avid CNC or something else, I saw you carving a mountain with the CNC you have and I am looking for a similar kind.
Just curios why you put the extension on that end of the table, as you are losing a lot of what you gained because your spindle in on the wrong side of the gantry.
This is gonna be the most random comment, but I just got finished reading that Wright Brothers biography by David McCullough and it's crazy to go from thinking about the technology level back then and how they had to carve their propellers by hand to, "hey here's this random guy with a computer controlled, perfectly precise wood carving table that literally anyone could buy." We've really come a long way. Those crazy mofos could've probably invented the airplane in a year if they had a CNC and 3D printer.
It should be a serie called « my strange addiction to CNC crazyness » 😉
Где купить такой cnc ?
wht are those feet called? id like to add them to my machine
I wonder what is your next project that requires 4 extra feet to the cnc?
Frank,I really want to make a CBC Router, your videos are fantastic, but how can I buy the part of the machine?
May I have the shopping list?
👍👍👍
Whats your opinion of this company that sells kits?
Cable Holder
I think its a Dragchain.
No, it is called "power track". A drag chain is a chain on drag lines that pulls the bucket back toward the house.
From the title I was thinking: what would 4 extra feet (as in extremities) be good on a CNC machine? English is confusing ^^.
When you said 4 feet I thought you were going to put shoes on it. :)
did you have to buy the extension, or did they sponsor the project?
Sponsored with a free extension.
He could have made that clearer I felt.

Thanks for the video, I'm sure I'll add to mine eventually. But, any chance that you might add a rotary 4th axis? I bought one, and have been trying to figure it out with limited time to invest in it. Cannot find much online on adding it other than parts that said they did it. CNCRP sent a link that got me to a person who did it, the person sent me their plans for the 8020 setup they used without any explanation on how to actually include it in the post processor or Mach 3. You could add one to your machine and explain that process very well. I purchased the axis for about $350 from alibaba and it's a geared setup 100:1 so the holding torque is sufficient. I've seen that they added plasma and I got there updated touch plate with my order, but I cannot get any info from them about a 4th axis. I really hope they decide to implement one, but even asking if they have played around with one on their machines has gotten no response at all from email. I feel like I annoy them when I call. I just don't know enough yet to confidently do this without spending the next month deep into it and not getting anything else done.
A rotary 4th axis is in the plan for this spring.
frank howarth seriously?! Thank goodness. Hopefully the people at CNCRP heavily endorse this. It's a huge reason why I wanted to get into it in the first place. Copying details into multiple extravagant pillars is not an easy thing to do and I'm pretty much obsessed with getting things right. I cannot wait for you to do this. If you plan on purchasing one in a similar way to how I did, alibaba has a good deal on them. However the motors are a bit lower amperage and the stepper controller must have a jumper moved to change the the amperage. Easy enough and you could always swap the motor for aCNCRP one that's prewired. I'll send the link if you want me to. And again, thanks for the videos and good luck towards your 4th axis!
Hi Guys, I live in Belgium and even though it took some planning to get the heavy package here at an acceptable cost, I managed to put my hands on a CRP pro 4x8. I could not be happier with the building experience and the final result! Hats off to CNC Routerparts! I also went for a little extension. Not as much as Frank, only about 2ft. I use the extra 2 ft for vertical work at the very end (haven't experimented with angled work so far) and also to add a rotary axis. It took me some time to figure it out but as it turns out, it is not all that difficult. If you have questions, I will be happy to help out. I use Mach3 and for CAD/CAM, I am using Rhino3d/RhinoCam and Vectric. Greetz, Nicolas
Nicolas Dekeyser absolutely! I would love information on this. Thank you for replying to this. It's been sitting in my bench since I purchased it and haven't devoted the time needed to figure it out.
Hello again, just a quick word to let you know that I am working on a document to explain in the best way I can all you will need to know to get your rotary axis up and running. It is more or less half finished now :) I'll Get back to you as soon as I am ready! Greetz, Nicolas
Your shop is likely nicer than that of people who do woodworking as their primary source of income.
When will you be converting this thing to a giant 3D printer?
When I read the title I thought you would put actual "feet" on your router table which got me confused for a second ;-)
Me too! If it said “adding 1.2 m to the table.” there’d be a lot less room for confusion... hmmmm
Are you being sponsored by CNC router parts?
You only added two feet Frank ;)
Oh! You meant 4' in length, not four feet on the ground!
does anyone tell me how this knife take it's bath while cutting if i have only X,Y,Z drivers( ua-cam.com/video/x4WznSWsTyg/v-deo.html )????????????????
Hay you only added two extra feet
You’re gonna need a bigger shop🛥
One bajillion feet CNC.
I'd call foul. The kit only came with two feet. ;)
Well, technically you only added two feet... But they were adjustable 😉
Ha!
frank howarth Great job never the less, I love your videos Frank!
As English isn't my primary language and metric is the norm here in Sweden I thought "this is going to be an insanely boring video adding feet to the CNC" 😂
This was way better, good job! 😃
discovery channel level or higher
is anyone else sent to some strange cartoons after this vid ?
DJ legion yea, some spanish frog cartoons? (mainly)
yes that's it.
DJ legion well idk... at least im not alone lol
You mean "Phim Hoạt Hình Hay Nhất 2018 - HAI KHÚC GỖ"? Yeah... :-p
In languages I can niether pronounce nor read?
Only you can make a boring video interesting. I assume that if I had a CNC machine, I would have been more intrigued
I
think
Frank
is
starting
to
talk
even
slower.
There are many UA-camrs that talk waaay to slow for me to get the info without straining to listen. So I usually speed them up to 1.5
I prefer watching it at 1,5x playback speed
Your to calm when speaking, sounds like your about to fall asleep or have eaten valium or smoked something head/body heavy green.
This is my first thumbs down and frank video I couldn’t watch. Sorry. I would’ve rather seen the new equipment in use not being assembled.
