    Fascinating! It was even interesting to think about the maneuvers you have to go through just to get to your next hitch. How great that you were able to work in a visit with your dad and daughter! Thank you for sharing your dad with us! I am fascinated that they are using aluminum anodes! I will be anxious to hear how that works out. Loved this whole process!

    • @TimBatSea
      @TimBatSea  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you again Laura. So it's been over a year now and I have learned more about our switch to Aluminum anodes. I was not aware and had never heard that the old zincs we used for years actually glaze over in fresh water (after a prolonged exposure). This would reduce their functionality and was the reason why we made the switch. We have not been out of the water since then, but I will eager to see how the new ones are holding up. CUOTO

    • @lauravalerius4667
      @lauravalerius4667 3 роки тому +1

      @@TimBatSea I have never heard of them glazing over in freshwater! I am going to be pulling my houseboat out soon and will check mine! I never replaced my previous house boat’s anodes, even after 23 years! They always looked pretty darned good. Is the glaze you speak of visible?

    • @TimBatSea
      @TimBatSea  3 роки тому

      @@lauravalerius4667 I would think it would show by not seeing any signs of galvanic corrosion. (23 years and looking good? I'm guessing yours were glazed). Of course if you are only in fresh water and not brackish, galvanic corrosion is greatly reduced. I think the big problem is when a boat that normally in is salt water , spend 6 month or longer in fresh and then returns to salt. CUOTO

    If you ever take the barge canal across New York State and into Cayuga Lake many Sail boats have to call the Beacon Bay Marina ahead of time to request their masts be removed in order to clear a railroad bridge. The crane barge is actually an old U.S. navy Higgins landing craft with an old crane truck parked in it.

    I was envois of those huge rudders, I had to struggle with twin engines, single centre rudder. Fantastic when two engines were running OK. But trying to steer with just one engine was a nightmare, she'd go one way OK but not the other. Was thinking of fitting twin rudders but had a hate of shipyards, my bank manager had the same hate.
    But with both engines OK Lazy Days was a dream to handle, I once went astern right though Dover marina to a berth way back in there. The marina crew and some other boaters commented, I told em I drove excavators and you brake one track to steer, so twin engines work the same.
    I'm going to stop now, no more prattling on. I just love your vid and how you present them.

    • @TimBatSea

    • @TimBatSea
      @TimBatSea  4 роки тому

      Thank you for watching and please consider subscribing. I believe what you are asking is why we have "inward turning propellers"? If this is what you are asking, then yes. You are correct. Most single screw (one propeller) boats have what we call a "righthand turning propeller", and many twin screw (two propellers) boats have the righthand turning propeller on the starboard or right side of the boat and the left-hand turning propeller on the port or left side of the boat. Many tugboats, but not all, have "Inward turning propellers" as you noticed in the video. This is thought to help in a maneuver we call "walking" where we make the boat and the barge move sideways. There is some debate as to the effectiveness of this arrangement, but it is largely seen as the most optimal way to set up a tugboat that has to do a lot of maneuvering. The theory is that that inward turning wheels (or propellers) better utilize the an effect known as "prop walk". This can be observed on a single screw boat with a standard righthand wheel that usually backs to port in reverse.

    man you really need to learn how to mix sound. you have your voice, that it is the principal part competing against the background music that it is so high that its no more background music. Your voice volume is not consistent through the video making me up and lower the volume depending if you are talking or not. Just give a little bit more attention to this details and you will have a much better video. If you need help i can help you with that.

      Correction. ABS makes up haul out and we get inspected. But while the boat is out of service and out of the water it is a good time to get as many things done as possible. A new boat with presumably minimal things found wrong, should only have to pay for the haul out and inspection. Great question.
