I suggest live at tanglewood
Best guitar solo ever!
JM, man, to see the guitarist, Terry Kath, in action you have to see this tune live at Tanglewood in 1970.
You need to react to the LIVE version. Incredible
"HOLY HORNS"... Other great horn bands in your future...."Tower Of Power"... "Blood Sweat & Tears"... "Earth Wind & Fire"... "Ohio Players"... "The Commodores".."Genesis"..."Kool & The Gang"..... just to mention a few.
Chicago is one of the best ever! Their sound is very unique. Terry Kath was the lead guitarist. He died tragically in gun accident. They have tons of hits! Beginnings, If you lead me now, Saturday in the Park, Make me Smile, Feeling stronger every day.....So many more.....Dig into them!

Live At Tanglewood .
Ridiculous solo by guitarist Terry Kath .
A MUST HEAR classic from their early days,, Chicago "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is"
"Beginnings", "Saturday In The Park", "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is" "Make Me Smile" and "Feeling Stronger Every Day" are all fire but it's a deep rabbit hole with lots of great songs.
Oh, you picked some awesome songs! Saturday In The Park.
This was written by Robert Lamm, who is a keyboard player and singer for Chicago. It's about trying to write a song, with the title referring to the time of day: either 3:35 a.m. (25 to 4) or 3:34 a.m. (26 to 4). Lamm explained on The Chris Isaak Hour: "I was living with a bunch of hippies up above Sunset Strip. One of the advantages of this particular house was that it was in the Hollywood Hills and I could look out over the city late at night. I wanted to try to describe the process of writing the song that I was writing. So, 'waiting for the break of day, searching for something to say, flashing lights against the sky' - there was a neon sign across the city. That song came from the fact that it was 25 or 6 to 4 a.m. in the morning when I looked at my watch - I was looking for a line to finish the chorus.
Jimi Hendrix loved Terry Kath and said he was a big influence!! Another great selection!! They had so many great songs like :Just you and me" "Does anybody know what time it is" "Make me smile" and "Beginnings" to name a few but I think this is my favorite track of theirs!!
I Stand And Applaud!!. You added "YES" and "CHICAGO" to your awesome Playlist of artist in the same week. seriously cool factor.
Next up, Saturday in the Park. Also a favorite, Does Anybody Really Know What Time it is?
Easily one of the BEST SONGS EVER RECORDED
How many bands have a double album for their debut? How many rookie bands would be allowed to? I’d put on side 1 of their first album, ‘Chicago Transit Authority’, song 1 “Introduction”, by the late great Terry Kath, amazing guitarist, soul singer, and composer, and let it play. You really can’t go wrong with their first few albums. You’ll also for sure want to check out this song live at Tanglewood. It’s amazing, and you can see what they look like playing. Thanks!

Their first 7 studio are like Pankow said, the real band albums.
Great song. Get a better feel for Chicago's greatness by watching the live performance at Tanglewood 1970. It moves this song from a 10 to an 11, Spinal Tap reference. The greatest guitar solo you will ever see.
Feeling Stronger Every Day
Having watched all 358 of your "reactions" and being a Rock Music Senior Citizen I want to say your comments are always "ON POINT". Serious honest analysis that covers all aspects of the song, with a smile and NO PAUSES.. That's why I call you.. TOO COOL.
🫶😘👏🥰
One of the Top 10 Classic Rock songs of All Time
ABSOLUTELY
You have seen/heard some of the greatest Rock guitarist in history.Very few would ever want to be compared to Terry Kath. He unfortunately shot himself in the head playing with a gun he thought was not loaded.. One of the greatest tragedies in music history.
Close but Terry Kath's daughter was his only child. I read that he was sitting on a couch with Danny Seraphine when he died. His daughter does a memorial to Terry on YT as she barely remembered him and it was her way to keep his memory alive. ua-cam.com/video/f7egJTtz10E/v-deo.html
Jimi Hendrix met Chicago at a club in Hollywood “The Whiskey”. Hendrix said the horns sound like they come from one set of lungs, AND Terry Kath is a better guitar player than he was. Jimi took them on tour to open for him and said he was ‘Intimidated” having to follow Terry Kath on stage.
You want HORNS??? ... .... I PROMISE... one of those...Tower Of Power - "You're Still A Young Man"

"Saturday in the Park"....one of their very best!!!🎶🎼🎵🥁🎤🎸🎙🎹🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥
Proof that, back in the day, songwriters really did stay up all hours just to thrill us with their genius‼
Love that Up Tempo!! This Song Always Gets me PUMPED! 🎶 GREAT REACTION!! 👍✌️
Once again, your reaction makes me feel happy... glad at your discovery -
This is a great band...I'm a big fan. This band has an interesting history. They have two distinctly different sounds. Sadly, we lost Terry Kath the lead guitarist and vocals in 1978 to an unintentional self-inflicted gunshot wound. Peter Cetera was the lead singer and bassist. They band went on to be successful but when Terry went home he took his "fairy dust" with him. RIP: Terry Kath💔🔥🎸U R Missed
Here's a live performance in case you're interested "Chicago - Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? 7/21/1970 Tanglewood (Official)" Really fun to see how much you enjoyed listening to this one. As they say, "It was Written across your face." 👍
I'm a Man is a guttural, all out man song.
Chicago is an American rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1967. The group began calling itself the Chicago Transit Authority in 1968, then shortened the name in 1969. Self-described as a "rock and roll band with horns", Chicago was much influenced by jazz in its early years, and its songs often also combine elements of classical music, R&B, and pop music.
Growing out of several bands from the Chicago area in the late 1960s, the line-up consisted of Peter Cetera on bass, Terry Kath on guitar, Robert Lamm on keyboards, Lee Loughnane on trumpet, James Pankow on trombone, Walter Parazaider on woodwinds, and Danny Seraphine on drums. Cetera,(this song) Kath, and Lamm shared lead vocal duties
I never thought about it so much when I was young and this song came out, but these days I hear it and the amount of energy involved in this performance is stupid.
Congratulations on being one who understands the importance of a first-time-no-stopping experience - we can see your reaction in your face.
Now would be an excellent time to watch the live Tanglewood version
That's the way 'we' always heard them - record/radio first, then in concert.
Another good rock/horn band:
"Sons Of Champlin" - the album 'Loosen Up Naturally' 1969 and the songs 'Freedom' or 'Get High'. (Although 'Get High' has a gimmick it is a very interestingly constructed song that will satisfy what you are looking for.)
CRANK IT UP!!... one of those the entire valley gets to hear. Thanks TOO COOL again.
"25 Or 6 To 4"
Waiting for the break of day
Searching for something to say
Flashing lights against the sky
Giving up, I close my eyes
Sitting cross-legged on the floor
25 or 6 to 4
Staring blindly into space
Getting up to splash my face
Wanting just to stay awake
Wondering how much I can take
Should I try to do some more
25 or 6 to 4
Oh yeah
Feeling like I ought to sleep
Spinning room is sinking deep
Searching for something to say
Waiting for the break of day
25 or 6 to 4
25 or 6 to 4
Alright
MUST SEE.... From Chicago...Terry Kath, "Colour My World" and "Now More Than Ever"
ua-cam.com/video/3UOP6l82vU0/v-deo.html
Might as well do the whole "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon". :)
Start with their debut album, "Chicago Transit Authority". Almost every song on it is great.
Introduction and Poem 58 stand out. Liberation too. The whole album is a masterpiece. Terry Kath was the heart and soul of Chicago.
Saw them in early 2000s...incredible!

BST with Al Kooper or David Clayton Thomas? Saw them with DCT and they were amazing! As for T of P, saw them twice in the 70's and was blown away! JM should make sure he watches a video of them, especially to see Lenny Pickett's wonderful steps & suits. Suggest "What is Hip".

Completely true .
As stellar a collection of musicians as one can think of in the last 100 years .
You should have listened to the live performance at Tanglewood 1970
Please do MAKE ME SMILE by Chicago more Terry Kath !!
Gosh, when life was so much better ...what happened to the world.....everything is just so crazy....lost so much love, friends
I think this band single-handedly started that horrible trend of pushing a suit coat sleeves up to your elbow
That main riff reminds me of Led Zepplin...
This song is like a runaway Freight Train chasing a Hurricane - it just starts rolling and rolling. Great choice, thanks for the hard work.
Awesome description/comment!
Chicago is awesome!!! One of my fav bands and my favorite song of theirs! 😊
JMBOY....u should have done a live version! Do it later! On yr show!!

Amazing, love it more and more.
The Lead Guitar in this was Played by Terry Kath! Using an Electric Guitar, with a WAH WAH Peddle!
Chicago - Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? (Official Audio)
Other songs I would recommend from Chicago are
'Poem 58'
'Sing A Mean Tune Kid'
'Hour In The Shower'
"Questions 67 & 68"
Robert Lamm wrote the song and claims it is about trying to write more lyrics at 25 minutes to 4 am. Urban Legend says it is about the group taking hits of LSD/Acid and sitting cross legged on the floor, wondering if they should take more, the question was asked...'What Time Is It?.....at 25 or 6 to 4. Believe what you want, there were reasons not to want the general public to know the truth... so....
"Drugs were the BIG BIG deciding factor".. Peter Cetera
Gotta check it Live in Tangle Wood 1970 Guitarist Terry Kath was one of the Greats!!
Again..the likes are way too insufficient! Your followers are definitely ignorant to music!!and this is 3 months later..I'm commenting in October 2023
Bro, new band for u? Really? Omg, u got so much to do! This domg is just too much!! Too much greatness! Yes??
Check out any of their early songs in Live in Tanglewood to see them live in action
Question 67 & 68
Massive catalog for over 50 years of rock classics!
The title refers to 25 or 26 minutes until 4 a.m., or 3:34 or 3:35 in the morning, as they struggled to finish the music they were working on.
You will love them!! My favorites include the earliest stuff, from this to COLOUR MY WORLD to SATURDAY IN THE PARK. The later 80s stuff became more pop and ballad driven. Great reaction!
Chicago is one of the best❤
The guitarist terry Kath played Russian roulette with what he thought was an unloaded gun ....1 shot and dead
There are two distinct eras of Chicago, with Terry Kath on guitar from 1967-1978, and everything else since. With Kath, they were a kick-ass rock band with horns. After Terry Kath died, they became a pop ballads band.
Go get their debut album as The Chicago Transit Authority and play it from start to finish. Their first three albums were all double LPs, unheard of for ANY band.
On that first album there are two tracks in particular to play among all that great music. The first is the appropriately titled opening track "Introduction", written by guitarist Terry Kath, who also sings lead with his soulful baritone voice.
The second track to play is "Poem 58". It's nine minutes of PURE FUNK, led by Terry Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass. Kath's guitar will blow you away!
Jimi Hendrix saw them play at the Whiskey in LA, went up to them, and told them, "You guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs, and a guitar player that's better than me! You wanna go on the road?" And he hired Chicago to be his opening act on a national tour of arenas.
POEM 58! Trust me on this!
To think that I heard this about a half century ago...Its still as fresh, but like fine wine, it ages beautifully.
find it "live"
So glad you enjoyed my hometown band. I actually grew up in the same Dunning neighborhood of Chicago as Danny Seraphine the drummer. I saw them in concert twice, with and without Terry Kath and Peter Cetera, back in the early 70's at the Chicago Stadium and again in 1992 on a double bill with The Moody Blues". They were both great concerts. I would like to recommend "Colour My World" which is one of my all time favorites. I haven't seen anyone react to it, so you can be the first.
I know I'm only 5 months removed from this reaction. But I need those who read this to know that the piano player Robert Lamm wrote the lyrics to this song. It was surmised that it was a take on him being high off of LSD. Thus the line that says: "Should I Try To Do Some More?" He was having a high drug trip and the clock on the wall was doing some tricks on his eyes. He could not tell if it was 25 minutes or 26 minutes to 4am in the morning! I guess it's true that some group's greatest hits are done when they are loaded, huh?
Like many before me: Live at Tanglewood. Anyone Hendrix claimed was better than him needs seen live.
Also, for this studio recording, Peter Cetera had his jaw wired closed and sang this. He'd had it broken by an exuberant fan at a baseball game. It's what got him started with his style of singing through clenched teeth.
The B side of Chicago II is one of those sides that should be played non-stop as each song sets up the next. Fancy Colours is a another stand-alone if you only want 1 song. Welcome to Chicago!!!
Another legendary Classic Rock name in JM's Playlist.
A great band, Chicago. Enjoy their music! 🎶🎶❤️❤️
That there is how to play a solo🤘❤️jesus christ that kath was the goat

Chicago has many great hits. Dominated the charts in 70's and 80's.
70's was harder, more rock and rollish. 80's was softer, love ballads.
Make Me Smile is one of my favs.
