Since the rule is that at least half of the cueball has to be within the line, if one zooms in at 9:54 one can clearly see that that is not the case. Not by much but enough. So the referee was right but man was that a brave call!
Your comment is incorrect. Half of the cue ball is not allowed to be in the D. According to Alan McManus, he knows his snooker! - the white ball has to be *within the D line and the baulk line.* The white cannot be half beyond the D which it is when Vafaei pots the red. It's clearly on the yellow spot and not fully within the D nor is it not touching the baulk line. It's a clear foul. The referee was correct to notice the foul and award four points to Jimmy.
@@YTguySmithy-lk6go - I think You are incorrect, because of telling us that white need to be fully within the D. It's not true. It't not the case to by fully on the D, nor in the half of ball need to be on the D. The rule means that the ball needs to be in the D area including the borderlines which means the baulk line and the D line. In the meaning of that, the center spot of the white ball which is touching the cloth needs to be no further than on the line where ling is included. Watching the replay, it's clear to me, that the white ball before the shot is not siting on the yellow ball spot (not siting - I mean not touching that spot, it just cover that spot form the top view), so it's outside the spot and outside of D. In my opinion very good call of the referee.
It was an excellent call, I have been in and around snooker for over 50 years and it is the first time I have seen it called and the ref called it as soon as it was struck so he was obviously confident in his call.
Watch the cueball again as Vafaei puts it on the yellow spot. It rolls to the left a tiny amount and Vafaei then looks down and didn't see it. Very bizarre moment. The whole match was strange!
well done jimmy, it was a tuff match and full of nervous gameplay from both players, i want to address and clear something up, the decision on the D foul, if you look carefully from above, the cue ball is deffinitely off centre from the line or and the yellow spot outside the D, so it is and was a foul, yes it is a harsh decision but correct, and to be fare a very brave decision to make,
Guys this isn't bloody football, that white wasn't on the yellow spot, anybody can see that, it's not a case of "oh some of the ball is over the line" of the D. And snooker balls and the playing surface aren't like a tennis court so it's not comparable to tennis Hawkeye calls. The single (bottom most) part of the ball has to be on or within the line of the D, in the same way colours are spotted and refs sometimes go through great effort to ensure so.
All due respect to Jimmy. Ok it was not vintage Jimmy White in respect of play but for gamesmanship it was the old Jimmy, he could have just accepted the referee's call that the cue ball was not in the D but asked if it could not be checked to give Vafaei a fair chance at the risk of losing, he would still rather lose than cheat. A fine example to all players. All the best of luck in the next game as its always good to see Jimmy at the table.
9:28 The white is outside the D! The lines make it clear! Before this clip, you can see Vafaei placing the white; you see it rolling further to the right than he intended. The ref has the best view of us all, and he was 100% confident it was outside, and I agree with him!
I'm sure that someone could do an overlay with the over head cam with the yellow on the spot and the white. Not sure if i'm correct but you can't place the white on the yellow spot as the yellow is on the junction of the two lines. and the white has to be inside the line. Placing the white on the yellow spot would be a foul???
I played on Saturday night and my opponent asked me if the ball was in the D for him. I said no and he moved it a bit more towards the D then missed the pot! Not a pro game but similar to this situation.
Nice to see Jimmy go trew. A bit of frustration with Vafaie. Not a great match, but always nice to see white playing, good luck against O'Donnel, very hard player 😮😮
Some rambling in the crowd due to another table finishing a session and people starting to leave. The referee offered Vafaei to stop playing for a moment until everyone has settled down, but Vafaei says "I don't' mind." The ref still calls for silence because the noise got even louder and the referee wanted the room to notice there is a frame still running.
It was slightly off the D than normal. But I think it was such a push to give it a foul. In laws of snooker referee is right, but I know some referees would allow it. I think it was a silly mistake by Vafaei but I guess the referee has much better eyesight than most to allow it. Correct call though.
When I see Jimmy still able to compete at a decent level it makes me think that alot of players retired to young. They mistaked a bad spell for their age creeping up.
I don't think hossain placed the cueball of centre on purpose for some advantage.. he has no need to.. it does look of centre from above but he's just made a genuine mistake in my opinion.
Check the overhead view again. You can clearly see too much of the white being outside of the D for the center spot to be inside the D. Right call by the referee and hopefully a wakeup call to Vafaei to take a bit more care on the "simple" things in snooker.
The referee called seven to signal the end of Hossein Vafaei's break after he potted a red and a pink before the foul on the red with the long rest, so he called: "Foul, Hossein Vafaei seven, Jimmy White four", although the commentator was talking so it was hard to hear and I think maybe even Hossein might only have heard seven called, thinking he was being fouled that many and so pointed while saying it was a red that he fouled and the referee said yes to confirm it. Jimmy's scored did only go up by four points though, from 43 to 47.
