Thanks for the DYI video. Just updated my recently purchased 2018 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD, from the original 2017 navigation database to the latest October 2023 release. After doing the files download at the Kia website, it took about 20 minutes in the car to complete the update. I'm just grateful Kia provides free updates, unlike other car makers. 👍
I wish you would’ve shown what it looks like when you first start the car, I liked how the singer looked on the start up, and would like to know it they changed it
I agree! I know it's available for all Kia models from MY22 onwards. Here is a link for reference! press.kia.com/eu/en/home/media-resouces/press-releases/2023/Kia-enables-over-the-air-software-updates.html
..the latest update I just did..on my 2018 Stinger screen..came with these new flashy purple colors.. and now enables a split NAV screen..and was still loaded with these really cool background sounds..but the latest update I just did..swapped out my really-favorite Soothing Sounds of Crashing Ocean Waves..for some reason..and left me only with these less-soothing Chirping Bird Sounds..but did add a few other handy screen changes for the newly-updated Android Auto NAV App..where I can still select my favorite Google Earth Map aerial slanted screen views..with all these very realistic natural colors and overhead 3-D airplane photo views.. of your real local neighborhoods. . ..showing real homes.. buildings..schools..stores...shopping centers..and airports.. with real green lush grass and trees..hills..parks.. mountains..real rivers and lakes..and streets..as well as backed- up traffic.. and even recently- reported police speed traps..
A sales rep told me Kia plans on coming out with an update that will give the 2023 Stinger wireless Apple Carplay. Is there any substance to this? Would be a selling point for me.
I am not sure of the wireless Apple car play however I do know the 2023 model can be do over the air updating for the infotainment system. I have heard there will be some sort of Wireless Apple Car Play update but I don't know the validity in that.
I just bought my Stinger today. I asked the sales rep about the wireless rumor and they said the hardware is there but BMW has a patent on the wireless AA side. So till the patent runs out or BMW let's Kia use the wirless function? @@kyle.damico
I downloaded to my 2019 Stinger and everything updated minus sounds of nature. Strange...actually, watching your vid when you're looking for sounds of nature you clipped the vid and must've chosen a different screen. Where do I find it? Thanks
A quick way to find Sounds of Nature is to click the Mode button on the steering wheel until it takes you to Sounds of Nature :) Off hand, I don't recall how to get there via the screen but I know it can be done.
Does this update fix bugs with the software? I recently started having an issue where the audio would intermittently and briefly cut out. It seems to get worse the longer the car is driving. There are no sound quality issues, so I’m hoping it’s not the amp. I’m going to try a factory reset with the update and hope for the best
It might help however I still have random glitches. I haven't updated since this video so there is a newer update that may have resolved what I have experienced.
I reused the SD card from the car however some people may have memory issues so you'd have to buy a new SD card and format it to kia's specs via the updater.
@kyle.damico I have already done the update on the oem SD card, just YOLO'd it (fantastic update btw). I was hoping you'd reply a little sooner but we all have lives. Cheers and thanks for the friendly reply!

Yea, me too. Honestly, I do not like the graphic they have for the Stinger when changing drive modes now.
FYI, those aren't "Edison bulbs", those are "vacuum tubes".
Thanks for the correction!
New subscriber!! Just bought a 2019 GT2.
Nice videos Kyle.
Question:
Do you have the sunroof rattle on your car and is there a fix for it?
I do have the rattle however you may be hearing the trunk rattle. I have heard of a solution for both but I haven't tried it yet
@@kyle.damico Nah I’m sure it’s the sunroof creaking from the passenger side.

Dude, All you really have to do is: Simply request an update from your Kia's Radio, /info/system simply by asking it to find updates. Ya Dope !!!!
Not every model year has over the air updates. Model year 2022 plus are eligible for OTA's. Kias manufactured in May 2021 and newer.
KIA should do this over air. They did an update when they changed the infotainment screen views.

I just loaded the the latest update, though can't find the sounds of nature in the menus. Where are they? Thanks
Did you have a Jb4 connected during the download?
I have a RaceChip and it was connected during the process!
not sure if i can do this on a 2020 Forte LXS , but ill give it a shot.
my infotainment has been buggy and keeps disconnecting from apple carplay.
I believe you can but you may need to use a thumb drive if you do not have an SD card.
I have the 2019 stinger and I don’t have a SD slot. Is there another way to update this?
You will have to use a USB thumb drive for updating. I am not familiar with that method however it can be done.

Sucks I have the base GT, and I don't have a slot for the SD card
Damn! I wonder if there is a way to still update it without an SD card.
Just use a 32GB USB thumbdrive.
Look for his video part.. that explains exactly how you just flip up that little silver NAV SD card flap.. right there on your dash
Do yall have Kia access on your 2018 stingers I'm getting frustrated trying to set mine up
That feature was disabled a few years back for my 2018 through one of the software updates.

Will it update in the kar...I updated my optima while the SD card was in the optima
If you have a 2022 or newer then you can do over the air updates
Does it update the maps also?
It’s mainly for the map update with the ui being secondary
I got mine 2022 Kia Stinger Gt booked into Kia ,they can update it for me.
That's great! The local dealerships to me charge upwards of $200 for an update..Craziness!
@@kyle.damico free here my car is only 7 months old

Hey there, did you simply reuse the SD card that's already in the nav system from the dealership or did you buy a new one?

Why did my stinger say to turn off the ignition to start the update
Weird. I know they display a message saying to not turn it off.
Where is the SD card located?
There is a little door right above the hazard lights button. I believe GT's do not have the SD card however a GT1 and GT2 have them.
Sir I have quoris 2014 is it possible to be updated
I don't believe so but you can check what vehicles are eligible on update.kia.com
