Just want to clarify during the 3 years as cadets Eren was one of the only ones who took hand to hand combat seriously so Annie was willing to teach him and this was before the trost arc so Eren doesn't even know he the shredded titan yet.

Remember when they specifically had Rico do this during the battle of Trost? Litterally listing a whole slew of names to Eren so that they don't feel like cannon fodder to him (and to us by extension) and then they killed a bunch of them off. However as Bertholt in Collossal form, put Ymir and the other soldier in their mouth, the series litterally classified them as "He got Ymir!" "And 'somebody else' too!"
A quick reminder, back in Season 1, Armin said that Eren being a titan was not a part of their plans, Reiner, Bert and Annie's goal from the start was just to destroy the walls, which was revealed on S2EP6. Therefore, those interaction of Annie teaching Eren some moves to fight is just Annie being "friendly" to their comrades or something like that.

Connie was NOT There when they discussed who the titans were, He was with them and sasha, ymir and Historia being "Kept an eye on" because they were under suspicion, And I think he was just in denial when they transformed, in disbelief that his friends were his enemies.

Eren really cares about his friends a lot enough to be willing to get himself hurt instead of them that’s why he won’t hesitate to fight against anyone to protect them, also yes eren clearly doesn’t like mikasa saving him all the but that’s not because he doesn’t appreciate her is because he clearly wants to prove her and himself that he is strong enough to protect her and armin also remember that his mom asked him to do it so is a promised that he can’t break i love the main trio so much to me their friendship and how much they love each other is the heart of this show
There is also a selfishness in how Eren fights for his friends, because he doesn't take their opinions into account. Even if Armin says he doesn't care about the bread anymore, and apparently it was already eaten, Eren still chased the bullies purely on ideals and justice that he should do it for his friend even though his friend may hate that he's doing it. He's so caught up in the way he wants things to be that he disregards the feelings of those he supposedly wanted to help.
The training arc took place well before episode 6 where Eren gets eaten by a titan. They weren't in a position to know they were helping out the Titan they were there for.
Point 1: Annie didn't even expected Eren to be a titan shifter in the first place. No one knew until the shredded titan exist. Everyone thought he's dead before that 😂😂 Its just training session. Annie did say she liked someone like Eren. She's teaching him because of that. Sympathy? Crush? Eren is kinda a big part in 104th cadets life even before he became a titan.

The end diagnosis of the flashback being about revealing Eren as a selfish character is a bit of missing the mark. While you can interpret it as Eren picking fight after fight, that interpretation eliminates the context put forth in the scene. Eren isn't fighting because he believes it right to fight, Eren is fighting because he believes what he's fighting for is right. Eren in the flashback went to fight those bullies because they stole 3 days worth of food from Armin that was meant for his family (the fact they ate it all at once and Eren's exasperation over the cost of the food speaks of the financial situation Armin's family was most likely in). Eren's willingness to fight this fight was already made a soliloquy of when Eren plugged the wall at Trost, "We're all born free in this world and no one has the right to take our freedom, just because they are stronger than us". This is why Eren fights the titans, and that was why Eren fought those bullies. This is Eren's raison d'etre. So much so that even though Armin, in the end, capitulated and could accept the loss of his food(freedom) due to the trouble the situation became, Eren could not... This situation, and and the intent of the flashback, goes far beyond Eren merely picking fights and doing what he wants regardless of his friend's feelings. It was meant to reveal what thematically pierces to the core of Eren as a character and Eren's consistency to his philosophy, from the fate of humanity down to 3 days worth of bread. Truth be told Eren's selfishness, as the reactors put it, is/was far outstripped by Mikasa's own displays of such in the anime from what was already shown, to what will be shown. Mikasa during the Trost campaign shamed and goaded the remnants of the 104th into a suicide charge of the supply depot by unfairly juxtapositioning her prodigious abilities to their own, in an attempt of false hearted inspiration(which only succeeded because of Jean and Sasha inputting as well)/emotional backlashing because she wasn't able to constructively process her feelings upon hearing of Eren's death. And instead bottled it up and became detached and cold to her life and the lives of the other cadets behind a facile shell of bravado which got others killed and almost killed her.
Back when Annie, Reiner and burrito were helping teach Eren how to do things, they didn't know he was a titan yet and were just doing those things as friends/comrades
Yeah yet they just make it confusing with constant prediction, thus missing and missunderstand some nuance of the scene playing in the screen, I'm just reaching this episode with them when I write this, hope they'll get characters development as a UA-cam reactor soon 😂

I love how you write down simple things about different characters like "eren has always ran off on his own" and many other things each episode , I love that you're keeping tabs and noticing every little thing about characters that define them in a way . That's wild that you guys have been the fastest of anyone to understand Bert having the gear, and yet miss out on so many other details, like "we were just kids."
We don't get to see it in anime but Eren and Annie had a really close relationship while growing up training at the corps. She was the one who actually taught him to fight and we got resumed it in a 1minute scene. That's why Eren was so in denial when he found out who the female titan was. That's why Mikasa asks Eren if there might be some other feelings that won't allow him to transform.
It makes sense for infiltrators to appear like very loyal and helpful comrades. They probably didn't consider the possibility of making Eren a better fighter would come back to hurt them. They appeared as surprised as everyone else when Eren came out of the titan, so they likely had no clue he was a titan shifter and thus didn't see him as a theat before that moment. It's unfair of Armin to say Eren lost against "the armoured titan". He had him almost beat, but then the colossal dropped down. He lost to the pair. If Berthold hadn't interfered, Rainer would likely have lost. Eren does not necessarily need to bite his hand specifically to transform. Remember in the fight against Annie (in the city), he transformed after being impaled by debris. And his very first transformation also happened without biting his hand, because at the time he was missing that hand and a leg. Annie also transformed by pricking herself with a small thorn on the finger. So it appears that being recently hurt... or maybe having a bleeding wound is the trigger, meaning he could just bash or scratch his foot or head or any part of his body against the treebranch until he pops a blood vessel.

When you think it that way, he's actually selfless! He's just clumsy and doesn't think ahead. He just wants to protect his friends as soon as possible even tho it's risky. (Mikasa, Armin, Historia, Thomas..) He doesn't think about himself, he always protects Armin, not Mikasa because probably he thinks Mikasa doesn't need protection at that time because he always the one protected by her coz she became stronger. Connie wasn't there when Hange and the squad were discussing a possibility that R&B might be traitors and then set off to Utgard castle as reinforcements, because he WAS at the Utgard castle needing those reinforcements :DDD Because he (and Sasha, Ymir, Christa, R&B) was doing what we saw in s2 inside Wall Rose - and that is the entire day the events inside Wall Sina transpired - he also has no idea about Annie. When Reiner told Eren he and Bert are titans, Connie was far away and couldn't probably have heard it (nor did he see it, apparently). Conclusion: in this episode someone must've dropped a real BOMB on Connie. Poor guy. 3:53 - the answer is: they had no idea Eren was a Titan in their 3 years as cadets. They only learned about him in Trost along with everyone else.
I'm just listening to the introduction of the video and you are mentioning that Annie and Reiner kind of taught Eren how to fight properly and stuff and you are wondering why would they do such a thing if he could use that as an advantage in the future... Remember that no one knew Eren was a titan shifter back in TRAINEES days. It was right after they graduated from trainees and were about to choose where to go (military police only the top 10 could apply, garrison and scouts). I don't think they thought of any of that back when they were teaching Eren stuff. Remember that they were all friends at least to most of our guys and Annie kinda liked Eren as a person for his courage. They helped him bc they started to care about him. As simple as that
Ill be honest, after rewatching aot several times, growing up, and watching hundreds of more anime, whenever mikasa constantly repeats Eren, it drives me nuts lol.
in my humble opinion, i don't think eren doing things on his own is a sign of selfishness. i think he's quite the opposite -- a little too selfless. hence the nickname "suicidal maniac." eren is the type who'd want to protect his loved ones with zero hesitation. i'm not saying that his lack of hesitation does not come with repercussions. it is reckless at times but also, it's either of the two - fight or flight. eren chooses to fight. i also always remember the last time he did leave it to his comrades and put his "faith" on someone else (the levi squad in s1), it might've been traumatic for him. we already know what happened there. as a kid, he's always willing to fight but his goal was to protect and avenge armin, and not to let mikasa fight for him all the time (pretty sure we can see he detests that). crazy as it may seem, in the aot world, i think eren is amazing.
I chuckle every time he is refered as "The Shredded Titan". I know it's wrong but it's interesting to see how each viewpoint is interpreted. You keep calling him that until you know what it is.
You're right, Bert didn't have any ODM gear nor any chance to grab it. But AoT does this a few times with "who cares" plot wholes, so never serious plot wholes, but a few. I dont think anyone really notices them co of how good AoT really is. Can't say what they are as it's kind of a spoiler. But you will notice a few bits.
we saw how he got the ODM gear though, in the past episode, when he grabbed Ymir he had thrown another soldier into his mouth so that he can use his gear later on.

I'm watching this after you've watched season 4, lmao just wanted to comment, that it's funny you called eren selfish and they he should learn to think of his loved ones first more often. Annie, Bertholdt and Reiner didn't know Eren was a titan shifter, nor Eren did. So to them he was just a regular guy and I guess they had some sympathy for him and that's why they helped him at those instances with the trainning. Otherwise, had they know somehow Eren was a titan shifter (even before he did himself) I'm sure as hell they hadn't teach him all those combat techniques, probably he would had been kidnapped the first moment they had contact with him.

At that point, Annie didin't know that Eren is one of the titan shifter. They discovered it when the first battle that Eren turned into the shredded titan.
I think Annie was only teaching something usefull to Eren, regardless of her mission. Plus, at the time of training of the cadets no one knew Eren was a titan, not even himself.

When you think it that way, he's actually selfless! He's just clumsy and doesn't think ahead. He just wants to protect his friends as soon as possible even tho it's risky. (Mikasa, Armin, Historia, Thomas..) He doesn't think about himself, he always protects Armin, not Mikasa because probably he thinks Mikasa doesn't need protection at that time because he always the one protected by her coz she became stronger. I'm just listening to the introduction of the video and you are mentioning that Annie and Reiner kind of taught Eren how to fight properly and stuff and you are wondering why would they do such a thing if he could use that as an advantage in the future... Remember that no one knew Eren was a titan shifter back in TRAINEES days. It was right after they graduated from trainees and were about to choose where to go (military police only the top 10 could apply, garrison and scouts).
I don't think they thought of any of that back when they were teaching Eren stuff. Remember that they were all friends at least to most of our guys and Annie kinda liked Eren as a person for his courage. They helped him bc they started to care about him. As simple as that

in my humble opinion, i don't think eren doing things on his own is a sign of selfishness. i think he's quite the opposite -- a little too selfless. hence the nickname "suicidal maniac." eren is the type who'd want to protect his loved ones with zero hesitation. i'm not saying that his lack of hesitation does not come with repercussions. it is reckless at times but also, it's either of the two - fight or flight. eren chooses to fight. i also always remember the last time he did leave it to his comrades and put his "faith" on someone else (the levi squad in s1), it might've been traumatic for him. we already know what happened there. as a kid, he's always willing to fight but his goal was to protect and avenge armin, and not to let mikasa fight for him all the time (pretty sure we can see he detests that). crazy as it may seem, in the aot world, i think eren is amazing.

You're right, Bert didn't have any ODM gear nor any chance to grab it. But AoT does this a few times with "who cares" plot wholes, so never serious plot wholes, but a few. I dont think anyone really notices them co of how good AoT really is. Can't say what they are as it's kind of a spoiler. But you will notice a few bits.
we saw how he got the ODM gear though, in the past episode, when he grabbed Ymir he had thrown another soldier into his mouth so that he can use his gear later on.

Connie wasn't there at the meeting where Hange was telling them about Reiner and Bert since he was with them the whole time because they were told to stay back during the mission trying to capture Annie since they were suspicious that there were scout cadets working with Annie.
I'm watching this after you've watched season 4, lmao just wanted to comment, that it's funny you called eren selfish and they he should learn to think of his loved ones first more often. Now knowing what hes done for his family and loved ones, not out of selfishness but the opposite, I'm curious if you guys will side with eren in the end. I'll keep watching to see.
Annie, Bertholdt and Reiner didn't know Eren was a titan shifter, nor Eren did. So to them he was just a regular guy and I guess they had some sympathy for him and that's why they helped him at those instances with the trainning. Otherwise, had they know somehow Eren was a titan shifter (even before he did himself) I'm sure as hell they hadn't teach him all those combat techniques, probably he would had been kidnapped the first moment they had contact with him.
