Im so happy your doing Legion! Been loving your xw reviews, they were always my goto to check out the new releases! And now, getting into Legion from the start, this makes it all the more exciting!
My gamer-self is disappointed that they aren't painted. My penny-pincher side is happy that this will keep the cost down. My mini-painting side is pumped that I'll be able to paint Darth FRIKKEN Vader!
FFG has at least attempted to make older X-Wing ships viable through new upgrades. There are some highly competitive squadrons currently that include Vader in his TIE Advanced, and Y-Wings still show up and hold their own, etc. I do hope that hey can hold off power creep for awhile in Legion. Eventually it gets into any collectible game, unfortunately.
Happened to him in Imperial Assault and X-wing. These games are very prone to this. I really hope that Boba Fett is amazing in Legion. He was always meh.

I'm no painter and have no plans to paint any of this stuff. I think it looks fine unpainted, which I realize is blasphemy to miniatures gamers.
Remember Vader can saber throw after moving for free

The Cardboard Dungeon yeah I’m excited about the saws renegades hopefully making the titular X-Wing more viable hopefully
