I agree 10000% btw. Jute is insanely good at going from zero to hero instantly! I used it to start an initial burn in a tent stove last year and was amazed how fast it combusted

Ha! Way to rock the waiting scene. My 6 year old is constantly trying to make fire by rubbing sticks together...now that the snow is finally gone here, N. of the Soo, we should give this a go. Not sure if he would be able to put enough weight on the downward pressure. Great idea, thanks for the review.

I’ve seen that kit on Amazon probably a 1000 times and never gave it another thought because I thought it would be cheaper quality than that. Now I feel like I need one!

I didn't realize you could get a bow drill anywhere near that cheap. Just seems like a niche item that would be more expensive for that reason.
Side note: I freaking love your accent.

Wow this looks awesome! In Europe we mostly use a much smaller device called a lighter tho. It's much easyer, cheaper and faster to make a fire that way.

  • @mannihh5274

Very unique design I've never seen before - thanks for showing.
One thing I noticed: the cordage is quite loose, so you loose rotation at every change of direction, I think it would help to tighten the cord. It sure would help to take a longer 'bow' too. When I do a bow-drill, my spindle isn't as fat under the cord and not as small at the tip - it doesn't dig in the hearthboard as fast and deep and rotates quicker.
You were sucessful at least, so very interesting to watch a different design that's working.

Got one. Good find. I wanna see how the mechanics work and then build my own to fit me better. It's a great skill to learn that is WAY easier to achieve when you've practiced at home a bunch so you don't have to scramble out in the woods. Looks like you got as much snow yestersday as we did in Ann Arbor. Gotta love Michigan weather. :) Hopefully it killed all the early mosquitoes.
