Nigel Saunders Thank you for that comment about my Schefflera! Your Umbrella tree inspired me to try this species! My cat Lux loves to hang out while I work- maybe she does deserve her own channel!
Great vid, nice music choice. I have alwYs wanted to make a Bonsai from Japanese Maple and a dwarf Shefelara. I have a Shefelara that has 15 1" diameter trunks, and stands 8' tall. Time for prune and repotting.... is it possible to take one of these trunks and start a Bonsai? A trunk that has little stalks/nodes shooting out?
I’m sure you probably know this but if not privet makes a great bonsai. Not sure where you’re located but if you live in an area where they’re abundant most people view them as troublesome eyesores and if asked would be happy to give them away for removal. There are 6or7different types of ligustrum (privet)in and around the southeastern US. The Chinese privet makes a beautiful bonsai and at a cost of 0 dollars - soil and container you can’t go wrong!
I'm a total beginner at taking care of my schefflera. I've watched other UA-camrs use bonsai wire, but I see you haven't used it here. Is it necessary for this species? Also, how humid do you find the air needs to be for it to grow well?
I know I’m late but they don’t like to be wired as well as other trees. Easily damaged but can be wired with caution on the smaller branches. As for humidity from my experience the more the better aerial roots really benefit from higher humidity levels. Some of my trees I’ve let over grow so the canopies act somewhat as a humidity tent. They are very hardy so take a few cutting when you can for back up in the rare case you loose one. Just don’t be so reluctant to work on it that you don’t have fun and learn as you go and enjoy it!
I just bought one yesterday . . . maybe 3-4 inches tall. Be cool if I could turn it into something like this. Seen this comment is a year old. How's it going?
What a nice tree! I have one from nursery, they are really hard to get ramification and the bark is still green, even if it is looking like at least 5 years old tree.
Yeah - I read online that they are hard to ramify! I found this one randomly while walking around Chinatown in Manhattan NYC and it already had a lot of ramification, so I bought it! I plan to hard prune it every summer to try to get more branching. So far, it has been working!
That is beautiful hope to get my dwarf schefflera like that. Please help on how to mix soil I just need to know if you buy your stuff at lowes, Home Depot etc. would like to make my own
Hey! I buy turface at Agway or Siteone, and the perlite + cactus garden soil at Home Depot. This is cactus soil amzn.to/2pYrsTi and here is perlite amzn.to/2pYvhI9.
Looks nice my friend. Good job on the video! Love the aerial roots of the Schefflera one of my favorite features of the species.
Nice!
Really nice work, the little tree is looking like a giant! I think your cat should get a UA-cam channel too!

Beautiful
How does those thin trunks grow? Do they grow upward connecting to the tree or downwards from the branch?
Downward
I too have Schefflera . Far from being as developed as yours. But it was started from a small cutting last year.

Thank you so much for your tips on the soil. Your bonsais are beautiful. Keep posting
Do have a photo of the buy so I can see what kind to get? Again thank you for the soil tips

Subscribed as soon as I saw the hair and heard the music.
How old is this ?
What's the name of the tree? Nice character shown in this bonsai.
