In the past I've had friends ask "How could someone spend $50 on a bottle of wine? It can't be worth it." And Amarone is where I begin their education. To drink Amarone is to taste the finest summer sunsets; grapes carved into gemstones and made liquid.
Amarone first instead of a good Zinfandel? I have a hard time introducing anyone to anything outside zinfandel or jammy wines like most consimers are used to.
Great video compliment! I appreciate your passion...... Ps. The name is Amarone( very bitter) because in the ancient time they made red wine only for dessert. It's call Recioto. So when they started to do without residual sugar they called Amarone. But yes its very sweet on the nose yet😅........viva amarone Bertani and Speri vigna sant'urbano... 👋👋
I have never used explosive but you are right. I call it an “all day wine, it’s fabulous when first corked and it gets better and more complex as it breathes. I don’t think enough people know and or drink Amorone, though I like it’s my secret. Great video, great information, thank you Julien!
Thank you Will. I agree, big fan of the style. I love my rich reds in general. I guess, it keeps the prices at a reasonable level, not everyone wanting to drink those. Because not many other regions or wineries can do this expensive process, so it's great to have this little gem of a wine style in Valpolicella. Santé, happy SUnday, and see you soon with another episode. Just posted one about a rosé meant to be mixed with ice cubes! Cheers :-)
Thanks much Quentin 🙏🙏🥂 Very much appreciated. Will be lookingforward to seing you again on the channel soon. Take care through these difficult times. WIll have a glass of wine for you. Cheers
Try the Trabucchi Amarone coming from Ilasi outside Classico zone but bio since 1993. A very complex but fine Amarone. The 2010 is a masterpiece . A wine of mediation
Hello, i was recently in valpolicella district and hade the plessure of visiting the vineyeard of (monte faustino) and of al the vineyards we visited this one hade an amazing Amarone classico and the Ripasso was also great. We had one of theire amarone 97 and it was the best vine i have ever hade the plessure of tasting😊❤️.
Wow, what a story! Yes, Amarones are such 'impressive' wines, literally. They leave an imprint on your mind like very few wines do. Good to know about Monte Faustino. Will have to look them up. The atmosphere in the area is so joyful, beautiful and impressive as well, isn't it? And the food. Did you enjoy the food? It gives the wines another dimension to, doesn't it? Hard to reproduce this feeling outside of Italy, but there... 🎇
Great video Julien! My favorite right now is Quintarelli Giuseppe Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2009 or Superiore 2010. I will drink it over an Opus One 2013 anytime haha. For value though you cannot go wrong with Allegrini Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico 2013. Do you know why 2013 was such a good year in that region?
Thanks much Kevin for the recommendations 👍 must admit i don't know as far as which vintahe is better in this area and why 😅 cheers mate, tx for stopping by 🥂👍😀
Jason Atabay sounds like Dal Forno is the master of Amarone, haven’t tried it. Do you have any other recommended wineries you like? Had some Zenato ones that were lovely 👌🏼🍷
@@UA-camJulien allegrini is a good producer in that area. Quintarelli is the godfather of Amarone and Dal Forno is the maestro of Amarone. There is good producers in that region, but nothing can't top Quintarelli and Dal Forno
Cool, thank you. I must try to taste these two, hopefully for a video on the channel. How nice would it be have have both!? Thanks much Jason for sharing your recommendations. Cheers :-)
@@UA-camJulien My pleasure. Also if you can get a bottle of Quintarelli Alzero. Most of the vintages is predominately Carbenet Franc along with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. They dried the grapes. It is like Amarone of Bordeaux. It is know as Château Cheval Blanc on steriods
Jason Atabay really!? Have I not heard about this before!? So many wonders to explore. I studied Winemaking and worked in Bordeaux, rather familiar with Cheval Blanc, so this sounds ubber exciting! Must look it up and try to get hold of some. Tx for the tip 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🍷 hope I get to taste this on camera now 👌🏼😀
The wine Amarone is anything but bitter... The name was given ages ago to differentiate it from another famous wine from the same region (the same spot actually) named recioto that is a very very sweet dessert wine.
I have had many bottles of Amarone and always kept a couple in my little wine cellar in the early 2000s. The main reason was a few colleagues from work had some "infatuation" with this so they called "kicking xxx wine". Although I personally like robust wines, I have to say to me Amarone is like " a enormous big guy who eats zero carb and zero fat but pure protein, and has lobes and loaves of visible lean muscle under his skin".... impressive? yes. My cup of tea? not really.
Is it! Wow, thanks for the tip. Would have to look out for it. If you know the guy, tell him to send me a sample so I could taste and review in a tasting video for the channel 😊❓ santé 🥂 tx for the useful note 🍷
Italian food and wine!👍😘😍♥️ Pizza is ok 😁👍I think wine is best whit out food. Wrong mix of spizy and acid in food can kill the finest wine. Just try to taste the wine before, under and after dinner 😉

Great videos! My fave is MASI. Costasera is great and the baby brother Campofiorin is nice for everyday pairing with red meat.

Zeno Zignoli (Monte dei Ragni) makes a beautiful Amarone (Classico). The 2009 from 10 days ago still echoing on tongue and palate...
Fanas Fanidis wow 😮 sounds nice 👍🏻 thank you for the suggestion. I shall investigate and see if I can get hold of some to taste 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😀
I really like Ca dei Frati Amarone ;)
Thanks so much J 👌

The food is amazing as long as you find a traditional family restaurant Away from the haviest tourist areas.
Yes, that's very true indeed, quite a lot of those around the main plazas and tourist's attraction points. cheers
bravo ..well spoken of Amerone
i tried it a few years ago . but now i have to buy a bottle or two .

Indeed, tx for the kind words. See you around. Cheers 🥂
I love wines from that region. I do have a bottle 2009 Quintarelli Amarone Della Valpolicella. Next will be Dal Forno Amarone
