  • In this video we discuss 2 examples to show you how to restrict the domain so that the inverse is a function. We discuss the vertical and horizontal line test, domain and range, graphically what the inverse of the function looks like, and more.

Wait. So by splitting the original curve into 2 curves, we can avoid the vertical line test? Or are you saying that, going forward, you can only choose one of the 2 curves to maintain functionality of the inverse. (Did you only show the two inverses because you wanted to show what the inverses looked like and the domain/range considerations, but in practice, you must only choose one of them to pass the vertical line test?) If you consider both curves concurrently, then you still fail the vertical line test, right?

I’m trying to illustrate how you can restrict the domain to just one of the curves so that the inverse will be a function….hope that clarifies.
