In this video, I'll walk you through all the steps to create a simple net summer top.
Designed with simplicity in mind, this pattern is perfect for knitters who have already made a few garments, like sweaters or tops. It offers an exciting challenge, allowing you to explore lace knitting and learn the techniques of decreasing for armholes and neckline shaping.
This top is knitted in two separate pieces, starting from the bottom up. The pieces are joined together through sewing. Additionally, stitches will be picked up to create the neckline and armholes.
There is approx. 15-20 cm/ 6-8 inches of positive ease. You can also choose to knit the next size up/ down. I am wearing a size S and, I am 168 cm tall (5’6’’) with a 89 cm (35 inches) bust circumference.
7 sizes are available in the PDF knitting pattern: XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL. I demonstrate how to knit size S.
    Materials:
    1. Yarn. I used Drops "Paris" yarn (50 g/75 m, color #17 Off White) for this project. Drops "You 8" also will work (50 g/ 85 m). You will need (5-5-6-7-7-8-9) 50 grams skeins for your size.
Also you can try mercerised cotton by Lion Brand “24/7 Cotton” (100% cotton, Worsted (4), 100g/170m or 3.5 oz/186 yards ). You will need 2-3-3-3-4-4-4 - 100 grams (3.5 oz) skeins for your size.
    2. Circular needles 5 mm (US 8), 6 mm (US 10) and approx 60 cm/24 inches total length.
    3. Crochet 3-5 mm/ D-H (optional - pick up stitches for neck and armholes).
    4. Markers (optional - you can use a piece of contrasting yarn).
    5. Tapestry needle.
    Lace knit stitch.
Row 1: Slip 1st stitch, purl 1, yarn over, purl 2 stitches together*, purl 2. (repeat patter between the asterisks * *).
Repeat this row for the pattern.

    Sunlit top story:
On a sunny May day, inspired by the warm rays and blooming flowers in the city park, I decided to create an airy summery top.
I used an elegant yet simple lace stitch from my previous summer sweater, Halcyon, because it reminded me of how light filters through leaves, creating patterns on the ground.
For the yarn, I opted for a 100% pure cotton in a warm Wheat shade, evocative of sultry August fields.
The completed top exceeded my expectations, blending style and comfort perfectly.
It's an ideal option for those who appreciate the stitch's beauty without the commitment of a full sweater.
Sunlit is a poetic word for something illuminated by the sun, evoking natural beauty.

If you're wondering HOW TO COUNT STITCHES in the lace pattern for the gauge, you can follow my method.
    1. Count the stitches in your swatch by verifying them in the ribbing. For example, 16 stitches.
    2. Then measure the width - is 13 cm/5 inches.

Divide the width by the number of stitches and determine how many cm/inches are in one stitch. I have 0.8 cm/0.3 inches.
    3. Then I divide 10 cm/ 4 inches by 0.8 cm/ 0.3 inches and get 12-13 stitches. This give me the gauge.
    4. If you have 10-15 stitches in a 10 cm/4 inches piece, you won't be surprised by the top size at the end of knitting.
To count rows, you can simply count the edge stitches and multiply by two.
You can modify the length of the top according to your preference, so there's no need to worry about it.

I can't seem to get the neck stiches right. I saw how your neck just fall off from the needles but mine still stays on the needle. How should I do?
