Partition refugees arrive in Lahore - Millions of Muslims flee to Lahore in the newly created state of Pakistan, prompted by the partition of British India.
This amateur footage captures scenes from an extraordinary exodus. Over the summer of 1947, millions of Muslims left their ancestral homelands for newly created Pakistan, while millions of Hindu and Sikhs travelled in the opposite direction. The film shows Muslim refugees from a range of different socio-economic backgrounds arriving in Lahore. Wealthy migrants shipped their cars and belongings but many were forced to make the long journey on foot.
Estimates of the numbers of migrants produced by partition vary between 10 and 13 million people. The final decision to partition India was taken only a few months before the British withdrew from India and was heavily criticised by many Indian and British officials, who voiced concern about the humanitarian crisis it would produce. The decision sparked brutal rioting across much of India in which more than a million people were killed. Trains carrying refugees across the new borders were particular targets of this violence.

Alhamdulillah, my grand father still alive, and he with his family migrated from district hisar (punjab, now yaryana india) into pakistan(punjab). They still recall their village, home and memories of their childhood.

my grandmother just passed away a month ago. she was born in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh and migrated along with her family to Ralwapindi at the age of 9. I still remember all the stories she used to tell me about her childhood which I later stopped asking about.

My great grandmother came from Lahore. She told us stories about how so many people were killed and they were thrown out of Pakistan empty handed. Sad history.

@Musab Muhammad Khan if you don't know about Indian politics then it would be better if you keep shut. In my state Hindus are not even allowed to do religious processions without Government permission even here 70% are Hindus. In name of secularism Hindus are prosecuted and abused.
If someone sees a Muslim with cap or Christian with hat then there is no problem but if Hindus put tika on forehead then they are considered as extremist. Hindus outside India are probably living in peace but our pseudo secular communist mentality government discriminate us on our own land. Sometimes we were bound to think that we are either living India or somewhere else.

For God sake don't say that Muslims in India are among minorities. About more then 20% of India's population are identified as muslims. The number of muslims in India are greater in number then their counterparts in Pakistan. India share about 11.7% of world's Muslim. We have the 2nd largest Muslim population with highest number of mosques in entire world. Then how can you claim that muslims in India are minority??

While our media houses spiced up and over exaggerated to create a huge fuss out of it. And I don't know who have told you that worship palces of Sikhs, Christians and mosques are Demolished. After incident of Babri masjid, government made strict laws against such mischievous activities.
Day by day the minorities number are increasing while the majorities are shrinking( if you don't have believe on me then go and search on Google). Here minorities are portrayed as victims but in real we are real victims and are suffering. For us government made no scheme or facilities. But my Muslim and dalit friends are getting scholarships and compassion for studies and jobs. In India the situation is complete reverse of what there is in Pakistan, cause every year the population of minorities are decreasing at alarming rate over there.

I am from kasur city , before kasur was tehsil of lahore district but 1974 kasur became district , border city with indian city's FZR district and khemkarn . My parents and grand parents , Nankey from Ferozepur city , and migrated to kasur pakistan . They left every thing there , in city shops ,houses, havalian dairy farm , agriculture land out side zora gate 1 km zira gate , now a days they built Dana mandi on our land etc , we listen a lot of stories for our parents , we love FZR , the bith place of our parents and forfather.... ❤❤❤

Jinnah was ambassador of hindu muslim unity, then ended up creating a new country just because of Nehru, gandhi and hindu extremists. If partition didn't happen more than half of the problem of present India wouldn't exist, and Indian military would be the strongest military ever. Then china wouldn't even think attacking India. Please don't add hindu extremists to this mix. You have done a great disservice by doing that. Hindus never plan for large killings, yet you want to add them. Its such egoistic minds that had created a situation where Jinnah led to large scale killings.
