It's always the cheap sketch books that bring me joy
I’ve been loving how several of my fav. UA-camrs have been ditching the super slick and polished video format for ones that show off their personality more. I think a lot of us are over everything have to be presented as absolutely perfect at all times. It was a delight to see you feeling more relaxed, and even silly at times. Loved it. ❤

Yeah whenever I buy expensive sketchbooks I also feel large amounts of pressure! I think it’s more enjoyable to have a sketchbook where you can just dump random ideas In it and not care if it looks super messy! I love your art so much it is super cool and now I’m pretty inspired to start a new sketchbook :D

Such a relief to see someone sharing a real sketchbook, one that contains pages of experimentation and silliness and joy. I have (once) had a sketchbook that I thought I would do more finished sketches in. Before I knew it it had all manner of doodles and whatsits in it, because I don't have the patience to find the crappy sketchbook. Gots ideas? Gotta get them down. Super agree that the "perfect" sketchbook is toxic. It's a SKETCHBOOK!! It's meant for experimenting and learning and playing around! Yeah, my sketchbook has some finished pieces in it, but that's like, once in a while, in between a bunch of super messy pages, lol.

This was such a joy to watch. Your art has always inspired me but this has made me really want to just pick up my sketchbook and play around. I love the etcher sketchbooks for watercolor but for true freeform sketching I really need the freedom cheap paper brings.
I'm currently working through planning my thesis show for my BFA in art and I've been struggling with feeling so uninspired for months. After watching this and seeing you with such energy helped me pick up my sketchbook and simply draw for the first time in I can't even remember when. Thank you :)

it's pretty clear you're on a new direction, and it sounds like it's fun for you, which makes me excited to see what's coming in the future, and also inspired to remember what's fun for me too! :)
about sketchbooks: i've always had a hard time just doing whatever in them, it feels like the drawings need some sort of reason or level of quality to be there, and it really discourages me to just scribble freely and let my mind roam... so i end up scribbling on some random stray paper or post its, and that's where i get most of my fun sketches that make me realize what are the things i like about drawing.
result: i never really draw on sketchbooks anymore, i just use them to glue my random sketches to lol

Oh my goodness, I can tell you had so much fun with this video! I love it, this was so much fun!! It somehow doesn't at all surprise me that you like the cheap sketchbook more, there's so much more freedom when you're not worrying about "wasting" good quality materials. But also! The stuff in the cheap sketchbook is so experimental/different and colorful and neat! I really enjoyed what I saw, and that self-portrait is AWESOME!! Very happy with this video, you seem to be doing well!

It's incredible to see you being so much more yourself in your videos and making the art you want to be making!! Maybe this will be too “woo woo” for some but I totally believe that we’re all connected (100th monkey kind of idea) and there are many artists including myself that are feeling just like you are to varying degrees. I just want to make art that feels good. I just want to see OTHER PPL HAVE FUN making their own art 🎉. THAT is inspiring and motivating.

Well, you asked for thoughts and my first thought was 'Is this person on the screen in altered state of conciousness?' because usually your videos are subdued to the point of melancholy, the lights are diffused, the palette is greyish, there is a softer music on background, and you speak noticeably slower, very Mokey Fraggle, in a sense. This is more like Red Fraggle.
My second thought that Etchr is still as overhyped and overrated as it was.
My third thought "Good luck with new inspiration, hope it lasts and we will see the full book filled'
Rule of thumb for me is that anything called 'perfect' as part of the name is not perfect and simply tries to sell the idea of perfection.
