Ah, me so old - YES, I did do a video on Aurora a couple months back - sigh- I need to take more Ginkoba for my memory - LOL! If you have any other requests for me to listen to Aurora tracks leave them below in a comment :)
I would like to suggest listening to her song "Lucky", recorded live in the Nidarosdomen cathedral in 2017. AURORA wrote that song when she was only nine years old: ua-cam.com/video/AmTiqR2_VAw/v-deo.html
In a documentary about Aurora, I saw her walking around in a room I belive she has not been in before, picking up things and knocking on them. When she fund a sound she liked, she recorded it. Aurora is a percussionist. Aurora and Magnus, her drummer, produce her albums. I'd like to hear what you think about "All is soft inside" (live on Kexp). There is allot of interesting things going on.
How interesting to hear you make analysis of my soul healer. There is so much to say about this little but emotional lady. I myself am an oldtimer metalhead but I and many others have seen the qualities she has .... and there are many. I'm not a bit surprised that you like her. A song that is interesting and I think you would appreciate is the original to "the seed" by Aurora. Hope you continue into her rabbit hole.
lol.....I love your comment so much. Describing her as your soul healer? Good lord do I understand. Finding Aurora in March of 2020 may very well have saved my life. Her music....is extraordinary. Her live performances are even better. But...who she is as a human being? She's a legit healing and empowering force in this world. I adore her. I listen to her longer interviews(Sheroes Mixtape Memoir and Lifekeys in particular) regularly. She keeps me sane and helps to heal and empower whatever emotional and psychological baggage I'm carrying. Other than my own family, she's hands down my favorite human being on this planet. I'm sure you understand. :) Also....yeah, it's cool how many metal fans are fans of her. I mean, she's a metal fan herself. She's talked many times about her love of Gojira and Tool in particular. I remember when I first heard her mention that she loves Tool, and that Aenima is her favorite album, I was like.....is she TRYING to be my favorite person ever? Because she's doing an excellent job at it.....
Yes! You've discovered Aurora. She really is quite unique. Aurora is the total package - singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, producer/arranger, choreographer, and an absolutely lovely human being (and she’s just 25 years old!). She will often perform her songs quite differently - sometimes with her band, other times stripped down to just her and one instrument, a cappella, with full orchestra, etc. - so it is definitely worth listening to different versions of the same song. Also, her videos are mini-masterpieces as well. Oh, and maybe you aren't a lyrics guy, but with Aurora you can't help but hear the lyrics. A short list of original songs: Runaway - Nobel Peace Prize concert and her music video Through the Eyes of a Child - Nidarosdomen concert, my recommendation Live Stripped - VIVO UK Lift: ua-cam.com/video/CFzExUN1N8I/v-deo.html It Happened Quiet - Nidarosdomen concert, but I'd recommend the live at The Current version as well: ua-cam.com/video/9U-N6LqzdIM/v-deo.html Churchyard - Live on KEXP Winter Bird - Nidarosdomen concert and her music video Murder Song 5,4,3,2,1 - Nobel Peace Prize Concert Lucky - Nidarosdomen concert Little Boy in the Grass - Nidarosdomen concert The Seed - Music Video, HAIK Concert The River - Music video, Live in Bergen 2020 Exist For Love - Music video, Daydreamer - Music video She also does some awesome covers: Life on Mars - David Bowie Believer - Imagine Dragons God is a Woman - Ariana Grande Across the Universe - John Lennon Teardrop - Massive Attack Rasputin - Boney M
Yes to all the above recommendations. I would also add her song Animal Soul at the Verftet Online Music Festival, her music video of her song I Went Too Far, her song Conqueror on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, her music video of her song Queendom and her unreleased song Why Did You Have To Go which she wrote and performed for the funeral of a childhood friend who died in a car acvident.
I love everything she does, but I really enjoy when she shows songs from different angles. I can't help but to hoard every bit she has to offer; it's just that good.
Aurora is wonderful to listen to no matter if she's singing or not. When she is singing, her body language is as lively as her voice. There's nothing lost in translation with her.
when you say that a lot of modern female singers have a completely different way of singing recently, I think Aurora has been the pioneer in this movement. Billie Eilish said that it was an Aurora song that made her want to pursue music and that it inspired her style. And Billie has then gone on to influence every new female singer today. I think Aurora has really changed the music game in the past ten years and doesn't get nearly enough credit for it.
Really enjoyed your reaction and insightful analysis! Since those earlier compositions, AURORA has continued to evolve and diversify as both singer and songwriter. So much to recommend! (1) The 2018 KEXP concert in Iceland: CHURCHYARD and ALL IS SOFT INSIDE; (2) The iconic Nidaros Cathedral concert: LUCKY, IT HAPPENED QUIET, THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD, and others; (3) FORGOTTEN LOVE live at LINDMO ; (4) her covers of: RASPUTIN, TEARDROP, THE PARTISAN, GOD IS A WOMAN, LIFE ON MARS; (5) last but not least: her brand new songs: MIDAS TOUCH, CURE FOR ME live at NRK; Her collab with Sub urban -- PARAMOUR. There are others as well.
You absolutely have to continue down this rabbit hole! I'm an old grunge rocker type and like other rockers and metalheads will certainly be telling you, despite our usual tastes, we all love Aurora! I cant say it enough. This girl is special. She is that rarest of breeds that sounds even better live than recorded. I would recommend you react to 'Murder song (5,4,3,2,1) live at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, or 'The River' live at HAIK.
I believe what you might enjoy is here live(studio) version of It Happened Quiet or the live performance of Runaway she did for the Nobel Awards. This specific version I believe you adore. Aurora - It Happened Quiet (Live at The Current)
Yay, your back! Welcome back to the Weirdos and Warriors club. Thank you for you reaction to her songs! She's enchanting in anyway, unique, magical and angelic. She's from Norway, 25 this year :')!
Aurora's Runaway was a huge Inspiration for Billie Eilish. I can recomand Runaway live at the nobel peaceprise consert and Murdersong from the same show. Another Norwegian band with a female singer who I think sounds a lot like Aurora but more alternativ rock. (Folk prog) is Kalandra. Please react to Kalandra Slow motion live at Gildehallen or Brave new world live at Kulturkirken. On Slow motion you can hear a hint of clasic Persian vocal technique. Love your channel 👌
This is the first song of hers I ever heard - and this was just in 2021! How had I not heard of her before?! I get to thank my daughter for sending me this song. I have been hooked ever since. Aurora is pure artistry.
you've really got to do some live aurora songs.. they completely destroy her studio recordings. suggestions: Soulless Creatures (Live in Bergen 2020), Churchyard (Live at KEXP) the seed (world earth day 2021).
Please, please watch her live. There are too many excellent performances to list, but I would suggest either "It happened quiet" or "Lucky" . For a different side of here, "No cure for me" Is very upbeat with a good message.
Great reactions for an amateur like me. Very interesting comment! Thank you so much!👏🙏🏼😊 I think you would find both her Haik concert in the woods (literally) or the concert in Nidarosdomen (cathedral eith organ, reduced symphony orchestra and choir) interesting from both a professional and artistic perspective. All songs in both cocerts are nothing less than spectacular but Daydreamer from Haik and Lucky from Nidarosdomen are just otherworldly with amazing sound! I have beento a lot of concerts from classical, tock, jazz, pop, but these pretty much top any and all concert recordings I have heard during more than 40 years of concerts. Merry Christmas!🎅😊
Since you focused a lot on the drum flourishes in the production, you should know that a producer of the track was her drummer Magnus Skylstad, who co-produces along with Aurora on much of her recent music. That could be the why behind some of the points you were making.
Do yourself a favour and take a look at the official video for this song. You don't need to do a reaction to it but it brings a whole new light to the song.
Dude....it's been too long....you gotta do more Aurora! Her fans will show up for it....trust me. We're crazy loyal to her lol. *_"Lucky"_* live at Nidarosdomen is THE song to do. Or *_"It Happened Quiet"_* at The Current. Or both!? Trust me...either song, but those specific live versions which everyone basically agrees are THE definitive versions of those songs, will blow you out of the water. They're both a solid order of magnitude better than the 2 songs of hers you've heard so far....
Aurora is amazing! The two songs you've reacted to are a little bit older now, but her new album comes out in January and this one is a single from it. I would love to hear your reaction to it! Heathens: ua-cam.com/video/etIXDCSB_VU/v-deo.html Heathens (live): ua-cam.com/video/utKR7tAm0hg/v-deo.html
This is great, and as always a great analysis! Her version of Ariana Grande's "God is a Woman" is what first introduced me to her. Check it out! It's live, so it's more about arrangement than engineering, but so moving.
Great reaction! Many good suggestions already on where to go next with Aurora. There are so many fantastic performances to choose from. I highly recommend to check out her live performances, like Nidarosdomen, HAIK, KEXP Iceland, or maybe Aurora live with Bergen Philhamonic Orchestra 2020.
ALWAYS chose a live performance with Aurora. The Nidarosdomen Concert is a masterpiece. For something different try her appearance with Wardruna doing Helvegen.
If you want to hear metal where the vocals are pushed to the foreground you should hear Babymetal, and the song Akatsuki in particular. This is the live version which is by far the best one: ua-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/v-deo.html Other songs by Aurora which are absolutely amazing are Cure For Me, It Happened Quiet, Lucky.
I really appreciate your approach, and this reaction to Aurora! She has quite a catalogue and many versions of each song here on YT. You spoke of tone and ways of using the voice by female singers of later 15 years. May I introduce you to Susanne Sundfor? Not an aurora track but could you do a breakdown/reaction to Mars Volta: Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of)? It’s one of my all time favorite songs and I think you’d get a kick out of it
Please check out the Nobel Prize performance of (54321) murders song. Even a technical ear can get immersed in that performance. I love learning about production and engineering on this channel. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!
Hey its me again, fan from the metal channel. Going to start posting this all over this channel feels annoying but its for the the algorithm. Please check out Hiatus Kaiyote they are from Australia (RIP) . One of my favs is "Dr. Jeykll" but their whole discog is epic :)
You mention the dull synth - check out the NPR Little Desk Concert (link ua-cam.com/video/evBgLWQwAFA/v-deo.html ) where a muted acoustic guitar plays that, really cool. Running With Wolves is the third of three songs on this performance, preceded by Runaway and Murder Song. Even if you don't react, it is worth a listen to listen to her voice without a lot of extra sonic elements to distract you. Also, check out "It Happened Quiet" live at the Current ( ua-cam.com/video/9U-N6LqzdIM/v-deo.html ) the harmonies with Silja Sol are fantastic!

Glad you've found Aurora, her songs are indeed quite beautiful. If i may offer a humble suggestion, not just for you but for your listeners. She just released new song "Heathens". No surprise: I love it :).
Aurora remade this song for the animated movie "Wolfwalkers". You should check it out!
Aurora is wonderful to listen to no matter if she's singing or not. When she is singing, her body language is as lively as her voice. There's nothing lost in translation with her.
The acoustic session with the cello, guitar and drums is beyond words..!!!! Such a beautiful and pure soul

Havn't checked yet, but omg I hope you do more Aurora, you WILL love, this was so early.
Aurora is really one of a kind completely genuine and feels her music more than any artist I know.Already have tickets for her show in 2022.
Aurora is a truly amazing artist.
Aurora is so underestimated. What a diamond ❤❤
This is the first song of hers I ever heard - and this was just in 2021! How had I not heard of her before?! I get to thank my daughter for sending me this song. I have been hooked ever since. Aurora is pure artistry.
Very amazing thought process you have! I bet you'd like the video associated, she shows so much emotion and the meaning of her song.
I'm no expert so I'm only regurgitating what I've read, but during album recordings she harmonises over herself.
you've really got to do some live aurora songs.. they completely destroy her studio recordings. suggestions:
Soulless Creatures (Live in Bergen 2020), Churchyard (Live at KEXP) the seed (world earth day 2021).
"under the water" is one of my favorite tracks by AURORA, i think you would like it.
Yayyy I'm so glad you liked it! Aurora really never misses tbh. I'm excited to see what you have planned for the channel!
So glad you selected this. Love Aurora.
Recommend "The Seed" or her cover of Bowie's "Life on Mars"
She got some fantastic covers to , check out Teardrop.(Massiv Attac)
Please, please watch her live. There are too many excellent performances to list, but I would suggest either "It happened quiet" or "Lucky" . For a different side of here, "No cure for me" Is very upbeat with a good message.
I believe you have covered Aurora before 🤔
*Yep, back in October you analyzed Runaway.
Wow this is very different from the rock channel. Surprised just how big the production is on this.
I know, right? This is more of my "zen space" reaction channel :)
I know! Love both channels. Wish more folks from the heavy metal channel would give this channel a listen.
You mentioned Frozen… the song she sings is called Winter Bird. If you like her I highly suggest listening to The Seed and Blood in the Wine

you need to see her live
It is best to listen to live versions of Aurora's music
Ooh, the bass synth!
You HAVE to do her live version of "Murder Song" from the Nobel Peace Prize Concert! 😭😭😭 But you can't do it without listning to the lyrics.
This is great, and as always a great analysis! Her version of Ariana Grande's "God is a Woman" is what first introduced me to her. Check it out! It's live, so it's more about arrangement than engineering, but so moving.

Fun fact: All female voices in her studio productions are sung by Aurora. No other female singer was involved.
this is actually your 3rd listen to AURORA ..
As mentioned on the other video, you really need to do the live performances
You mention the dull synth - check out the NPR Little Desk Concert (link ua-cam.com/video/evBgLWQwAFA/v-deo.html ) where a muted acoustic guitar plays that, really cool. Hey there Maestro Geebz,
If you are curious about some interesting ways of engineering, I would recommend listening to the:
The Glitch Mob - I Need My Memory Back (ua-cam.com/video/dzSpvFwNB4w/v-deo.html)
Their work is Electronic Music with a twist of IDM and industrial/glitch. A lot of layers and what I call a wall of sound, but not without depth.
I'm pretty convinced you might enjoy this.
Glad you've found Aurora, her songs are indeed quite beautiful. If i may offer a humble suggestion, not just for you but for your listeners. Please listen to "Corpo-Mente" - "Dorma", in particular the Live at Improve Tone Studios, 2015 version. Fun fact:- Its the same members of IGORRR, but the music is the exact flip side. Where igorrr is heaviness and chaos, Corpo-mente is beauty and soul. Laure is absolutely phenomenal, she sings in a language she invented, sings the entire sitting down... and during the last section she sings what is the violin part on the CD recording. Could not recommend highly enough.. Well, except maybe the other songs from that live session like "Ort". )
Pleaseeeeeee u need to react to her single - the seed pleaseeeeeee pleaseeeeeee
Heyy!! I have a recommendation for you again. Its gonna blow your socks off yet again. I promise.
Chhap Tilak - Coke Studio.
Please react to it. It will be a memorable experience.
