Love your video! This week they’re training around Rotterdam, and they (1 chinook and 1 cougar) did a low fly by , right over my terrace 🙌 I think they know there is an helicopter enthusiast living here 🥹
Yes, there were great! I was standing next to another photographer as the final Chinook went past - the downwash blew his hat off his head and into the trees, 50m away!
Always felt there’s something special about the Chinook, it’s an absolute beast and sounds epic as it approaches from a distance- that great, deep, baritone thud always gets me out of my seat to hear it approaching and then pass at a surprisingly fast speed for such a huge lump of machinery it is.😊
Spectacular!! They were amazing. What a great place to be at the right moment! I was very lucky to have a flight in a RAF Chinook last year.....what incredible aircraft they are! 😊 We weren't quite that low though!! 😂 Having said that, it was a low level trip, and I was on the ramp with the load master crewman, which was insane!
@@Geordiegjs They are indeed! Having been lucky enough to fly in several helicopters, civil and military, you can really feel the immense power these things have as you lift!
10 years ago I live in Greenwich, London. one or sometimes two would fly down the river Thames by my apartment. I love them, the silly sound and big interior. Awesome machines.
I've seen a Chinook do a lower pass at an airshow in 1993. The weather was appalling and most people were in their vehicles. The Chinook came in really low to the left of the carpark and banked 90deg to go over the runway. The rotors were just a few feet from the concrete. Superb skills.
I was working near some bases in the UK during GW-II and there was a lot of flying going on. One day driving home one of these appeared over a hedge and scared the cr@p out of me - surprised there weren't tyre marks on my car roof. I'm sure it gave them a giggle though ;-)
I’m a roofer and when I’m working on any tall buildings that are right on the river, st Thomas hospital for example when the apaches and chinooks fly down the river (nothing this close) the noise and the beat of the props is always crazy to me, I can’t imagine what it was like to be that close haha 😂 cool video mate !
Was traveling on Dutch freeway 15 years ago; in the distance a little dot appeared briefly over an overpass, followed by a second dot. 2 seconds later an F104 (?) screamed overhead at roof height + 25 centimeters. Followed by an F16 chasing it - on manouvres. Only planes I had ever seen so low before were SA Air force Buccaneers and Mirages - not on manouvres.
@@mythos5809 There are many cars on a freeway, so you could simply have been oblivious to my presence. Or I wasn't there, also possible. But that is besides the point. Your estimations are off. They don't fly "roof height +25cm. Period.
If some percentage of the Netherlands is below sea level, how do they calibrate their attitude gauges? Is it still relative to feet above sea level? I don't think the gauges can do negative readings, but I could be wrong.
Altimeters (when flying at lower altitudes) are calibrated to sea level, by dialling in the “QNH”, which is the locally measured air pressure recalculated to what the value would be at sea level. So sitting on the runway at some Dutch airports, you’ll see a negative altitude. (And if you look out the window at the traffic on the nearby highway, you will most certainly also see a negative attitude! 😊) Some (military) aircraft are equipped with a radar altimeter which will give the altitude over terrain.
They def passed by you to give u a cool vid to upload. EDIT: As far as i know, then an aircraft "tilts" a bit when not needed it's to express friendliness
Are you sure these are Dutch helicopters? Registrations look German to me (D-482 for the first, D-602 for the second Chinook)? Don't Dutch aircraft use PH registrations? Or even PA and PB?
Because that small country is a NATO member it's troops can and will be deployed where NATO needs them for peace keeping or fighting missions. In those cases the Chinooks are usually incorporated with other units to provide troops and material transport and for evacuation of wounded.

That's why they're so low.. we're not used to the ground being so high

PH is used for civilian aircrafts. Military aircraft use different registrations. For instance our F-16's use the J-xxx and the F-35's the F-xxx
