  • On July 18th, 2015, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper appeared for an edition of “Piper’s Pit”, as part of MCW’s Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup 15. Former WWE Creative Writer, Kevin Eck, was Roddy’s guest and the topic was the use of writers in the ever-changing world of professional wrestling/sports entertainment. As always, Roddy Piper gives his candid thoughts on the industry, while recounting some incredible stories from his career. Sadly, the world lost Roddy Piper just 13 days later, on July 31st, 2015, at the age of 61. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, at this extremely difficult time.
MCW Pro Wrestling immediately knew that we wanted to share the final Piper’s Pit with the world. This moment belongs to all of us who were fortunate enough to see this legendary performer in action. Join Shawn Credle and Danny Mays, as we honor the legacy of a true legend and a wonderful human being, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.

It was an incredible night, Roddy sat at the curtain the entire night and after every single match he pulled the talent aside and gave them advice even though he was paid at the beginning of the night and could have left right after his segment. It was an absolute honor to have him with us.

I remember the first time that WWF came to Indianapolis, it was the coldest winter night that was recorded. It was on January 1985 and -28 with a chill factor of -58 outside and Roddy Piper wanted me to take him to the Adams Mark so he could drink. Wendy Richter was in Indianapolis as well. Roddy Piper wanted me to get Wendy Richter to come and have a drink with him. This went on all night with Wendy turning him down. By the time I brought Roddy Piper back to the Rodeway Inn he tipped me $100. He went to his room and passed out and by the time he got up he missed his flight to the next city and he told my boss that he wanted to kick my ass because I got a $100 tip. He told them that I took the money from him. Roddy Piper I will never forget that night for nothing. You was a great man and I was glad to have met you. R.I.P. Roddy Piper

My dad purchased The Royal Rumble 1990 on video and asked if I wanted to watch it with him. I said no, he told me Piper was in it, so I sat and watched! Love this man. A true legend who will always be remembered. His spirit will forever be in my heart, that's for sure! R.I.P Rowdy Roddy Piper #ThankYouPiper

I discovered wrestling around 87. I was 5. as far as I remember, there was never as time I didn't like him but odd as it may sound I never thought of him as the heel. maybe its fuzzy memory or I just loved how wild he was...again I was a young boy. if there is one singular regret I carry with me through life, its that I never got to meet him, shake his hand or ask for a hug if he would have let me. as morbid as this may sound. I sometimes wish we had the ability to know the day we or others will be taken from us so we can have closure, so we can have one final moment with them. what a wonderful man and performer!

I was bullied, starting in 3rd grade, and every school year after that. Every year, it got worse and worse. It was decades before the dawn of the internet. I was also bullied at work by supervisors and co-workers. We had an apartment manager who bullied both my sister and I. My sister Cindy, battled depression for 18 months in the early 90s. She wasn't suicidal. Just sad. She still feels sad from time to time. But, for the most part, she overcame it. She is doing fine now.

Man this is so sad. If you think about it, Roddy had plenty to give to the industry still, and has already done enough to make a monument for him. Even his most recent Piper's Pits segments were good.

When I think of Professional Wrestling to date, it's promotions like Maryland Championship Wrestling I think of. Had it not been for territories, WWE would have been a gleam in Vincent Kennedy McMahon's eyes. They didn't get to where they are today, because they don't remember the humble beginnings. Also they didn't get to where they are without one man....Rowdy Roddy Piper. A man that could keep alot of asses in the seats, and thump many an ass into the seats. He was one of a kind. And he was one hell of a man at that. RIP Roddy Piper... And Thank you MCW for doing this tribute. And MCW...you have something happening there...and something big...just keep it up and you'll be bigger and better than ever..

Late to the party for this segment, but this was VERY well done. From RRP coming out and delivering essentially a monologue for several minutes to the "heat-filled" shoot with the ex-WWE writer, the slap apology and then the push for the promotion's own talent at the end. Easily as good as a major promotion could execute. And the fans are clearly engaged throughout to boot. 👏 👍
