  • Are you looking for a simple way to strap a boulder? Rock lifting is easier than you may think!
    In this video, we teach you how to lift boulders using straps, and setting stone with a machine.
    Word of caution!!! This is extremely dangerous and proper head and visibility protection should be worn - as well as properly rated straps and D rings for the load.... Do not do this without proper training.

    Thank you, this is just what I need to know as I build my first rock wall with the use of a tractor. Much appreciated!

    I learned that these are actually called shackles but many people use the term interchangeable so it doesn't really matter

    This was great help . We were digging a trench to run electric to my garage and found a large rock . Was able to use this and connect to the bucket on my tractor to lift the rock out .

    Great explanation 👊🏼

    Those aren't "d-rings" - they're bow shackles, and the shackle used to join the two sling eyes is loaded incorrectly, from side to side, putting the clevis threads in shear. Shackles are meant to be loaded ONLY end to clevis.

      Thanks for your input. We have changed things a lot since this video was aired. I guess it's time for a new video. :)

    Thank you for the info! Would you use the same method to move mature palms trees; in 36-40in boxes?? Would you strap the base of the trunk?

    Hey Carl, is it not much faster to use the thumb for picking up moving and placing rock? Have you ever considered a grapple that rotates?

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  4 роки тому +2

      Its completely dangerous to the max to use the thumb. Ricks slip, people get killed.
      Strapping is the safest method. :)

      Tractor supply hardware

      Thanks Carl. That’s a little different to the method we normally use. Looks solid though and i like the idea of using a D shackle to make an open sling into a closed sling.
      To save the extra step of having to do up and undo D shackle onto the machine each time we use a rated swivel hook to clip the D shackle onto.

    how long of a strap do you use?

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  5 років тому +2

      20 foot. Thanks for asking!!!! I should have mentioned it. :)
      Harbor Freight sells them for around 25 dollars. :)
      Hope that helps..... :)

      What he uses is a snatch strap which is actually used for jerking vehicles out of mud, snow or other stuck spots and they are sold at lots of different stores.
      You can also find lifting straps of a bunch of different lengths and different weight categories.
      Those can get expensive.
      You can also make your own out of just plain regular rope.

    That is an awfully complicated way to put a choker on a rock.
    You could have done all of that with one shackle instead of four.
    Then make the choker, separate the two loops coming out, and put them around each side of the rock.
    What is tricky is picking up a boulder with one piece of chain that has a hook on each end. It can be done. No knots.
    You end up with a loop of chain going around the outer edge of the Boulder and one loop going up to the bucket.

      Since I filmed this video we have simplified greatly.

    That is not a d-ring that is a shackle, or some people call them a clevis. (Look it up)
    Most common use of the term "d-ring" is for the pivoting tie down points on the side of your equipment trailer.
    I have been operating heavy equipment for over 50 years.
    I prefer Yanmar, Takeuchi, and Komatsu. I do not like Caterpillar, John Deere, Kabelco, Kubota and a few others.
