Die Bergsteiger um den Wetterstein-Hüttenwirt Charly Werhrle sind unterwegs, um Sherpa Ang Gyalzen ein Ständchen zum 70. Geburtstag zu bringen - als Dank für seine langjährige Freundschaft. Denn der ehemalige Expeditionsträger Sir Edmund Hillarys verbringt seit 16 Jahren jeden Sommer auf der Reintalangerhütte unterhalb der Zugspitze und sorgt dort für Himalaya-Flair. Die Geschichte einer ungewöhnlichen Freundschaft und ein abenteuerliches Roadmovie zwischen Zugspitze und Mount Everest.

With dulcimer, double bass and accordion, a motley group of musicians from Upper Bavaria is hiking the Everest trek in Nepal. The climbers around the Wetterstein hut host Charly Werhrle are on their way to serenade Sherpa Ang Gyalzen on his 70th birthday - as a thank you for his many years of friendship. Because Sir Edmund Hillarys former expedition carrier has spent every summer for 16 years at the Reintalangerhütte below the Zugspitze and provides Himalayan flair there. The story of an unusual friendship and an adventurous road movie between Zugspitze and Mount Everest.

Super Aufnahmen. Wahnsinn, wie sich der Pfad verändert hat, ich war 2004auf dem Everest-Trek unterwegs
1992 war ich selber auf dieser Strecke unterwegs, nach Jiri mit dem Bus, dann Treking über den Lamjura und ins Tal von Bhandar... Allerdings führte uns unser Weg zum Kloster Thubbten Chooling Gompa, in dem wir 14 Tage verbringen durften. Übernachtet haben wir allerdings in Zelten auf einem Campingareal unterhalb des Klosters. Aber wir durften von morgens bis in die Nacht an allen Zeremonien und Meditationen teilnehmen! Eine unglaubliche Erfahrung, für mich die Erfüllung eines Wunschtraumes. Auch den berühmt-berüchtigten Buttertee bekamen wir im Kloster, ich fand den gar nicht so schrecklich, wie er immer beschrieben wird, schmeckte nach einer überwürzten Gemüsebrühe... Das waren für mich damals ganz tolle Erlebnisse, obwohl ich davor schon in Indien war. Aber Indien hat mich bei weitem nicht so angesprochen wie Nepal und die Nepalesen! Ich werde auch irgendwann wieder da hinfahren, egal wie alt ich bin! Jedenfalls war Eure Doku super, da kamen all die Erinnerungen hoch! Ich danke Euch dafür!
