  • This week on DAFT (Dumb Apple Farmer Talks) Paul discusses some of our favorite apples: Crimson Crisp and Gold Rush apples.
Crimson Crisp: When ripe, a Crimson Crisp apple is glowing red, almost neon color. It's really a fantastic apple with an impressive crunch and tart flavor of a Jonathan apple. Also, makes outstanding pies with fruit that doesn't break down entirely when baked.
Gold Rush: Paul's personal favorite apple variety. Gold Rush is packed full of tannins making it an incredible dessert apple for making hard cider. For us, it's an end of the season apple that stores very well. When ripe, Gold Rush will have an almost bronze color and an indescribably complex and tart flavor, reminiscent of whiskey.

It's great complex flavor! Along with being a late season apple and good storability.
