Hey. I’m having some trouble starting out . I’m using a Lindsay artgraver and find myself digging at a bad angle and doing bright cuts but also not seeing everything because I’m not using a microscope. Is a microscope crucial and which would you recommend that’s budget friendly. Love your work.
Hey, very sorry for very late reply, I have been out traveling.. still am, but a bit more quiet now :-) Anyway, what you are describing is quite normal in the beginning.. it´s about finding the right angle, starting with the right material and such, but one very important thing is to have your tool sharpened correctly. No, microscope is not crucial, especially not in the beginning, but depending on your eyes and eyesight maybe a pair of magnifying glasses.. the better quality the better, but I started out with a pair if $15 from Amazon.. I always reccoment starting without microscope. Anyway, now I´m in Norway untill end of December, but when I´m back in Spain we could set up a class if you want. I have done a few classes showing how to sharpen correctly, how to hold the graver, what angle and such things.. if interested please visit my webpage and you will find my email there :-) www.engraverhand.com :-)
Acetone is best for laser printer and normal paper. But note that not all laser printers are good.. often HP works better.. I think mine is a Canon, but cant remember the model. Some laser toner works better than others, and some dont work at all.. :-)
Thank you for posting this video! I am learning how to engrave. I too have a trinocular microscope. I bought a camera from ebay last year to mount on the third eye. It magnifies everything too much, to the point where no one can see what I am engraving. What camera are you using?
It’s probably not the camera but a problem with cheap AmScope or AliExpress type of microscopes.. the camera can’t be centered without modifications and probably by purpose they sell the scope with the wrong lens. I guess you either have a “up/down” adjustable “lens” (well it’s not even really a lens) or a 0,5X lens which means you see more or less 50% in the camera compared to what you see in the eyepieces.. pretty much useless! Look for a 0,35x lens which will give you a bit more camera view.. expect a little lens distortion on the edges, but probably be all right in the center. You still will have to try to center the camera attachment, but probably less and more usable. Camera can be ok, but the microscope quality is quite bad.. eyepieces and lenses gives me a headache and focus issues. :-)
@@jimh7345 what Zeiss do you have? :-) I think it can be several factors.. for the one I have now it came with a 0,5X camera attachment lens but I could get a 0,35X attachment lens which made the view slightly larger, but with some lens distortion on the edges.. I also tried with my Canon M50 camera and a 1X adapter but no more view with that one even if it’s a decent camera. I don’t know this for a fact but I heard that older Zeiss like 2000 CS or even new Stemi 305 has less view.. so it can depend on the microscope, what attachment lenses available and camera of course. But I know for a face from engraver fiends with the Stemi 508 the view can be larger.. even with the Canon I have. But the worst problem with this and the AmScopes is the the lens is not centered from what you see in the eyepieces.. super annoying. But if you have a more now, or even older Zeiss try checking out what camera attachment lenses available.. that can help a lot. :-)
@@engraverhand Marius, I really appreciate your time and response! I have a Zeiss SMZ10. I obtained it used (sterilized) from my neighbor who buys and sells used lab equipment. I have a 0.5X lens. I will ask him if you has a 0.35X for me to try. :)
Sure! :-) I have the 2021 12,9” with 512 GB drive.. but I kept my old 2018 12,9” with 128 GB drive but that turned out to be way to little storage very fast, but I’m also doing a little music and video and then it fills up very quick.. I would get as big screen and as much storage the wallet will allow.. The 512 GB is still going strong.. :-) Its an amazing tool I use daily! :-)
@@jbux1983 i was basically learning by my self, and it took time for sure.. I just finished giving a 3 day class in my studio, and also do some basic drawing classes online :-) Taking classes will definitely reduce time figuring out things on your own.. :-)

Thanks for watching. :-)

Oh thank you very much! :-) Having great fun making music to the videos :-)

I’m also having a hard time transfering using the acetone/ varnish method but one step at a time

My microscope is a Zeiss...so it is more than likely the camera.
