I made a dripless shaft seal at home. Keep the fiber packing seal for emergencies.

Thanks for sharing, I have the same model vessel and need to change my flax packing this weekend on the starboard side. Its dripping about 6 drips a min when sitting still. Love your videos!

Use emergency tape to stop the incoming water until you are ready to put it back on

How many drips per minute does the new packing have when the engine is off/ shaft is not spinning?

Do you think 2ft is enough for 3 wraps of both shafts?

That doesn't sound like quite enough. 2 ft will wrap 3 times around 2 shafts if the shaft is 1.1 inches or less (diameter). I would recommend measuring the circumference of the shaft before you tear anything apart to make sure you have enough material. Good luck!

Would you do anything differently next time

I don't think so. In the video we showed that we did two layers of packing at first and had to switch to three. Otherwise, it went pretty smoothly.

It seems like three layers are pretty normal
