Now that it's 5 months later - lol, I'm getting the 5 for the same use (helmet chin mount), but for better audio, cheaper, and a smaller mic, I'm just going to run a lav mic directly into the camera, turn route the mic in front of my mouth. I'm still undecided on the mic2. It's got some advantages and disadvantages vs the Rode. Want to make sure I'm hearing the latest sound samples of the mic2 w/the firmware update. Also want to make sure I'm hearing it w/ the low-pass filter off. This is all because in the comparisons I heard 4-8 mos ago, the Rode Pro was not just a little, but MUCH better sounding. It was fuller, richer, and crisper on the top-end.
One question: is the DJI mic 2 connected to the DJI camera all the time? When using the camera in the one click function, are the two devices always connected? Or do I have to pair them every time? Thanks
Mike 2 I got with pocket 3 then post action 4 update linked now seamlessly with both. I’d bought the Mike 1 with charging case etc not that long ago. I don’t blog much on my channel and the single Mike time wise / battery wise works effortlessly for the mean time so covers my needs. As you say the Mike 2 set up is truly a game changer 😊
I appreciate the noise canceling. Just wish there was an additional option to select Low, Medium or High noise cancellation in addition to the intelligent mode.
Great review Tamara. I have the mic 2 with the pocket 3 and pairing it to the action 4 was so easy. Game changer. Brilliant! You have solved my action cam + mic dilemma. Didn't want to shell out on a Pocket 3 for the mic when Action 4 is the best all round fit for my vlogging style and now that i can add bluetooth Mic 2, sorted.
Mate, was one of your issues with the pocket 3 the background blur? It looks nice, but I feel like some vlogs are better when you can see everything in the background clearly. More interesting. And the quicker turning speeds with the action cams, which you can't do with gimbals. We on the same page?
@@l337z0r Exactly this. Pocket 3 is a great lil cam but any gimbal will stutter from fast movement plus I don't care for the background blur and associated focus hunting in/out. Tamara,.,, this is exactly what i was needing... I have the Pocket 3 and Action 4 but was wondering about the DJI Mic 2 to see if it would function with both cameras.... very clear content, clear audio and awesome video.... well done and thank you so much
Tamara, let me know if I'm right. The advantage of the Osmo 4 over the DJI Mic 2 is its integration via Bluetooth, right? Because I was thinking here and using it together with the Osmo Action 3 I could simply record normally on both devices (without using cables) and then synchronize it in my video editor. Why do I say this? Well, firstly for the price, by buying the OSMO 3 + DJI Mic 2 I would save a few dollars... Another interesting fact is that I could record the audio from the Osmo 3 and also from the Mic 2 so that, if there is no wind, use the ambient audio generated by the Osmo 3 together with the audio generated by the Mic 2... In the case of the Osmo 4, if I connect it via Bluetooth, I would have 2 identical audios, both in the Osmo 4 video and in the backup audio generated by Mic 2... Am I right in my thinking? I did some math here and the Osmo 3 Adv + 1 Mic 2 is costing 400 usd.. An Osmo 4 + 1 Mic 2 is costing 469 usd... in other words, the Osmo 4 Adv alone costs 369, only 30 usd less than the Osmo Kit 3 + 1 Mic 2. What do you think?
I have a question. Does the DJI MIC2 RX connect wirelessly to DJI Action 4? Maybe I need to describe the flow because I want to use 2 mics. DJI Action 4 < ---- > DJI MIC2 RX base cold mounted. ( Wireless Connection ) -------> x 2 DJI mics ( 2 person interview )
Hi Tamara! Thanks so much for this video. You def answered my question about the receiver towards the end of your video. I will primarily use the osmo action 4 w/ the mic 2 for motocross videos and I wanted the mic 2 for sure...but now I think I'll get the receiver too, in case I want to do a video with more than one person. Thank you for your detailed review. I have an action 3, but for moto vlog, its internal mic is not the best… (camera not waterproof anymore, the receiver is a bit problematic to connect to the camera etc. ) For me, the best option is a full wireless microphone, but action 3 not support this, so I thought I sell the action 3 and buy a 4. I didn’t know the mic also records audio simultaneously if the action 4 is also record it, but in this video, it was explained. The best thing is that the mic2 is also available without a receiver, for me the receiver is not necessary now to use it with action 4 or a mobile phone. I thought I order an rx now, but in eu its out of stock :/
I love my Osmo Action 4 but I have to disagree here. Unless you are planning on walking kind of far away from the camera when filming, you do not need any external microphone. The microphones built into the Osmo are incredible ! They pick up sound very clear. I filmed a kayak seminar, the speaker was about 20 feet from me and his voice comes through so loud and clear ! I can't say enough good about this camera's audio.
I’d have to disagree. While you might not always need an external mic, if it’s windy and you want the cleanest audio, then you will want one. Also in areas where there is a lot of ambient sounds too. But that’s just my experience.
10min ago I was about to order the Action 4 with the Mic 2 for the same use...but luckily she said, there is only one mic working....now I need to hope for an update and wait :(
@honestnerd I place one mic under the helmet to record my voice for vlogging, the other mic in my backpack to record the exhaust sound. Each records one mono audio line (left/right). This way I can combine both to a in overall much more better sound. That´s because usually when motovlogging with one mic in your helmet, you can hear only your voice, in worst case with really nasty wind noices in the background. In my case I can kind of "replace" the wind noices, because you hear the exhaust instead. Also I can get way more creative in editing Videos. For example I can decide (even while I´m out driving) when I want to record only the driving or the landscape, and I always have a nice and clean sound of the bike. So when I´m having a good day riding my bike, I just turn my mics on and I record whatever I want during the day, without changing something. I just hit the record button of my cam whenever I want....and decide while riding OR afterwards , if it is going to be more a "motovloggy" video, more just riding, or a combination. Thanks for the video, Tamara. Just had to check this out before going to the store to buy one. Wasn't sure if just a Mic 2 -transmitter would work with the Action 4 but most obviously it does. Great stuff as usual, thanks again.
Really good informative video. I use a go pro 12 and am looking for a microphone, go pros seem like a nightmare to use an external mic. With the osmo 5 coming out the 4 has dropped in price. Going to go for the 4 and mic 2 thanks to your video. Thanks very much. 😊
Great video, and very quick of the mark! So, you are not able to use both mics wirelessly with the DJI Action 4 and still require the transceiver? Does the transceiver still need to be connected to the Action 4 via USB? Nice village by the way 👍
Tamara, thanks for the heads-up on the DJI Mic 2. I'm thinking I'll opt for the separate transmitter kit since I can use my DJI Mic 1 kit in the event I need multiple mics to record on my Action 4. And the $99 price tag is a whole lot better for my budget.
Have you tried using the new DJI Lavalier mic? I'm wondering how it compares, using the Mic2 directly, compared with using it through the DJI Lavalier mic.
I'm wondering if the Action 4 camera gives me the ability to change all settings on a Mic 2 transmitter (32 bit float, low cut filter, etc) , without a Mic 2 receiver. I want to make sure that when I modify any settings via the Action 4 camera, those settings stay that way on the transmitter, even if I later use the transmitter on it's own without the Action 4? That would allow me to just by an individual transmitter, without the reciever. I'm trying to decide whether I can buy just the transmitters without the receiver, and use my Action 4 to basically get full functionality out of the transmitters, apply settings I want, and then use the transmitters as standalone onboard recording. Thanks!
You showed how to pair with the Action 4. How does it work when you want to use the receiver again? Does it auto-connect, or do you have to ‘re-pair’ with the RX?
Great review, Thank you. Is the battery run time you mentioned continuous use or do you get the mentioned run time when recharging the mics from the case. I am curious what the mic continuous run time is prior to recharging it ?
Hi 👋 great video like always 😊 i wounder if the mic 2 can connect to the gen 1 receiver? I will get my pocket 3 combo tomorrow and i have the gen 1 mic and receiver already. If i need 2 mics can i connect the mic 1 and 2 to the gen 1 receiver? Keep up the good work ❤
Fantastic review! So, if I buy the DJI Mic 2 with the Receiver and two Transmitters, how do I connect it to my DJI Action 4? Do I just connect the DJI Receiver to the side of my Action 4 via the USB-C interface, and the Action 4 will pickup audio from both Transmitters in my recorded video footage?
Excellant video, was looking into a pocket 3 but i think think if i upgrade my action 3 to the action 4 and microphone kit this would be better for me along with a gimbal
I shot in the Normal colour profile, other than when I highlighted that it was D-Log M. Just wanted to show how the footage was right out of the camera. But I have a video about grading D-Log M for Pocket 3 ua-cam.com/video/qaqwuAheVDM/v-deo.html
I'm waiting to receive my Action 4 + Mic 2 TX and your video answered my question about changing mic settings without receiver since I didn't purchase it. Thanks for your informative work
I appreciate the detailed info about this mic, I was not quite sure I wanted to get one but after watching this i'm sure I need one for my gear bag. Also, I have a question for you, is all your B-roll footage in this video shot with the action 4 as well or another camera?
All the footage that isn’t product shots of the mic and camera was shot on the Action 4, so anything where I’m walking around outdoors or showing outdoor footage. The other shots were with the Sony A7s III and Zeiss Batis 40mm CF.
🤯Had no idea that you could use the DJI Mic 2 with Action 4 without a separate receiver! I thought this was just the new Pocket 3. Then when you told us we can use the Mic 2 with iPhone via Bluetooth, me head blew off. Now, if I can just find a VFM gimbal that I can use with Action 4 AND my iPhone 14 Pro Max, I’ve got all my bases covered 🫶
Thanks for the details of mic 2 Wanted to know does this immediately get paired with the mic2 and start recording When we press the record button the camera via quick action button when it’s off
Great video..I like the awesome color correcting you're doing. BUT...what i find with these mics during outdoor use...is that it makes the sound too sterile. For instance in the. beginning of the video, as your walking down the street and talking, your voice sounds like it's in a sound booth or something. There's no ambience. I don't know if that's the mic doing that or if in post you may be a little heavy on the voice isolation software setting.
does it start recording the audio in the mic, as soon as I hit the quick capture button, the OA4 is in shut down mode prior to hitting the quick capture button.
Do you have to manually turn on the DJI Osmo Action 4 for you to use the DJI mic 2? Or does the dji mic2 also work if you press the record button on the Action 4 from it being completely off (Quick Capture/Snapshot)?
I’m new to making videos. I have a Pocket 2 and an Insta360 Flow for my iPhone Pro Max 15. I’m going to be bringing these with me on the Camino de Santiago (hiking trail). With weight and cost in mind, what would you choose to use? I was just looking at the wireless microphone from Hohem.
I have a dilemma and I’m debating whether to buy the mic 2. I’m not using it for vlogging as such, but would use it for cycling videos and capture conversation with others whilst riding. Would the mic 2 be an upgrade? Would it capture and improve Audio over the Osmo4?
If you’re going to be cycling I’d imagine you might get quite some wind hitting the Action 4 (depending on how fast you’re going), but even if cycling slow-ish, if it’s a windy day having the Mic 2 with the windshield will improve the audio quite a lot.
Really great review, I was searching for this setting if the DJI Mic 2 could turn on when I start recording with my DJI Action 4 before buying it. Thanks :)
@@TamaraGabrielUK The DJI Mic 2 could stay in sleep mode and be awaken when you press the record button on the DJI Action 4 ? The 6h of battery life is when recording right ?
@@TamaraGabrielUK Damn, that sucks. I only have the action 3, and like you said, losing the waterproof quality of this camera kinda defeats the purpose. Hopefully the action 5 will come out soon. Do you think it will work without the transmitter on that? Also 1 more question. Do you think the dji mic 2 is decent for recording ambient sound in nature? I might also use it for my sony rx10iv.
I'd assume that the mic would work the same for the future Action 5 as it does for the Action 4, via direct Bluetooth connection with the transmitter alone. The Mic 2 would be a decent choice for ambient sounds. There are dedicated mics for that, but if you want the versatility to use it in other scenarios then it would do the job.
Hi Tamara, great video! Thank you, i’ve a question for you, i’ve already have an action 4, and just ordered the single transmitter (black one) for sure i’ll use it paired with the OA4 but i’d like to use it even when i use my canon mirrorless camera as an external recorder(syncing the audio in post). The question is, if i setup the mic 2 transmitter on action 4 (gain, 32float, noise canc and so on) then switch off the action 4, will the transmitter maintain the settings? Thanks in advance cheers from Roma Italy
Hi Tamara, another helpful video. I was wondering where you put the transmitter when also recording as a back up? Eg will it be ok just to have it in my pocket ?
Hi. The mic will need to be placed where you would normally have it to capture your voice, as you’ll be recording internally to that mic as a backup file.
Great review, thank you for all information. May I ask I want to use this for my motorcycle trips and I want one mic to record my voice in my helmet, and with the 2nd mic to record engine sound. You said Osmo action 4 only connects one transmitter via wireless, so that's bad for me. But if I buy 2 tx + 1 rx package, can I pair osmo action 4 with receiver by wireless to record video with 2 mics audio included at same time?
Great videos you do.Thank you. I know the Mic 2 also can be used with Insta 360 x4. So my question is could I potentially have Insta 360 x4 with one of the Mic 2's and the Osmo Action 4 with the other Mic 2 recieving seperate audio to each camera ????
Tamara, why doesn't DJI offer 1 TX, 1 RX and case for those of us who bought the Pocket 3...Where is the option package for those of us who already own 1 TX? I have to buy the 2 TX package because I need 3 microphones??? Could you please raise your voice and bring some light to this issue. They could easily have done it. But I don't see it on their website. Thanks so much. love the channel!
Great Vid. Is it possible to use the Mic 2 with 2 x Osmo Action 4's. So 1 mic recording from each Osmo Action independantly, the other the same ???? please.
Thanks for the great video showcase. Just put an order in! Question, do you know if you can record both the microphone from the camera and the mic when they are connected like this for two audio sources? Would you need to not connect the mic and record internally and then just use the osmo action 4 normally?
@@TamaraGabrielUK More like having audio from two sources - say for example you are interviewing someone and holding the camera in front of you - wireless mic on interview subject - main camera mic recording the questions you ask. You are very photogenic 💯❤👍👌
what video settings were u filming in? this is the best looking video i’ve seen from this camera on youtube. thanks!
Great video, and very quick of the mark! So, you are not able to use both mics wirelessly with the DJI Action 4 and still require the transceiver? Does the transceiver still need to be connected to the Action 4 via USB? Nice village by the way 👍
Dji 4 is compatible with mic saramonic wireless?
Tamara, thanks for the heads-up on the DJI Mic 2. I'm thinking I'll opt for the separate transmitter kit since I can use my DJI Mic 1 kit in the event I need multiple mics to record on my Action 4. And the $99 price tag is a whole lot better for my budget.
So first question…..can you use the mic 2 Bluetooth feature on the GoPro 12 as well? I love your British accent btw lol
Nice video.
Great features from DJI as usual.
DJI, if you’re reading this, can I swap my less than a year old DJI wireless mic for this? ☺️
Great video! Testing this setup out in Japan in 2 weeks. Stoked for the audio side. Cheers ✌🏼
Have great a time in Japan!
Great video. I found that getting one of those windslayers solved all my audio issues. Didnt use my wireless mic on this trip.
Have you tried using the new DJI Lavalier mic? I'm wondering how it compares, using the Mic2 directly, compared with using it through the DJI Lavalier mic.
I love the fact that the Mic 2 connects to the Action 4 without an adapter.
For livestock vlogging, which would you recommend between DJI action 4 and osmo pocket 3???
Thanks!
Yes, if you change the settings from the Action 4 it will apply to the mic even if you don’t have the camera connected.
Wait. Whaaat. Can this be paired with a GoPro 12? This is a great setup for vlogging
You showed how to pair with the Action 4. How does it work when you want to use the receiver again? Does it auto-connect, or do you have to ‘re-pair’ with the RX?
All of your videos are great. Many thanks!
Thank you, that was very informative 🙏🏻
Exactly. But make sure you plug the receiver in facing towards the back of the camera or you’ll see it in your shot.
Excellant video, was looking into a pocket 3 but i think think if i upgrade my action 3 to the action 4 and microphone kit this would be better for me along with a gimbal
Hey!! What color profile did you use? And if it was D LOG, what did you use for coloring?
I shot in the Normal colour profile, other than when I highlighted that it was D-Log M. Just wanted to show how the footage was right out of the camera. But I have a video about grading D-Log M for Pocket 3 ua-cam.com/video/qaqwuAheVDM/v-deo.html
@@TamaraGabrielUK thanks for the reply Tamara
I'm waiting to receive my Action 4 + Mic 2 TX and your video answered my question about changing mic settings without receiver since I didn't purchase it.
Thanks for your informative work
I see what you did there, nicely timed video 🙂
I appreciate the detailed info about this mic, I was not quite sure I wanted to get one but after watching this i'm sure I need one for my gear bag. Also, I have a question for you, is all your B-roll footage in this video shot with the action 4 as well or another camera?
All the footage that isn’t product shots of the mic and camera was shot on the Action 4, so anything where I’m walking around outdoors or showing outdoor footage. The other shots were with the Sony A7s III and Zeiss Batis 40mm CF.
@@TamaraGabrielUK all of the shots in this video look really good! Thank you for the info
Once again congrats Tamara for your video !
Wow, that camera has some really good video. To me, better than GoPro. BTW, Happy New Year
Tamara, Another great video. I am looking forward to your video using the gimbal with the action 4, I have the gimbal but have not used it.
Great video! Deff need to order one of these.
Is it possible to connect the two transmitters at the same time via BT or must it have the receiver plugged in for that? Thanks
I mentioned it in the video, you can only connect one via Bluetooth
My bad, missed that. That's unfortunate, but I will still likely get the Action 4 it looks quality!
Cheers@@TamaraGabrielUK
No problem
🤯Had no idea that you could use the DJI Mic 2 with Action 4 without a separate receiver! I thought this was just the new Pocket 3. Then when you told us we can use the Mic 2 with iPhone via Bluetooth, me head blew off. Now, if I can just find a VFM gimbal that I can use with Action 4 AND my iPhone 14 Pro Max, I’ve got all my bases covered 🫶
Thanks for the details of mic 2
Wanted to know does this immediately get paired with the mic2 and start recording
When we press the record button the camera via quick action button when it’s off
As I get ready to head to Italy and get a Mic 2 for the trip, this is great!
I have action 3 and now the mic 2. Any idea why the mic2 doesn’t work with the action 3?
It only works via Bluetooth with the Action 4 and Pocket 3. For the Action 3, you need the receiver.
if this video is an example of what it sounds like being shot with an external mic then we all need to use it because it's a miracle😊
quite cool video! 👌.. just one more thing: the pairing button lets you start/stop the cam if connected via blutooth. 😉
Great, i have buy this mics today, great video, regards from Spain
Thank you. This video helped me a lot.
does it start recording the audio in the mic, as soon as I hit the quick capture button, the OA4 is in shut down mode prior to hitting the quick capture button.
Do you have to manually turn on the DJI Osmo Action 4 for you to use the DJI mic 2? Or does the dji mic2 also work if you press the record button on the Action 4 from it being completely off (Quick Capture/Snapshot)?
No, you have to turn the mic on first, unfortunately.
@@TamaraGabrielUK oh ok i see
Can pairing 2 transmiter to dji action cam 4... ?? Like a pocket 3?
I’m new to making videos. I have a Pocket 2 and an Insta360 Flow for my iPhone Pro Max 15. I’m going to be bringing these with me on the Camino de Santiago (hiking trail).
With weight and cost in mind, what would you choose to use? I was just looking at the wireless microphone from Hohem.
Brilliant video! Thank you for all the tips :)
You're welcome 😊
Hi Tamara. Could you please confirm if it is compatible with pocket 2 and action 3?
Thank you.
Really helpful video, you sold me on the Mic 2! 😍
@@TamaraGabrielUK thank you Tamara x
You’re welcome
Amazing quality on this video! Can you share the camera settings you used for the talking head shots? Thanks!
Sure, you can see all my settings here geni.us/878R
Really great review, I was searching for this setting if the DJI Mic 2 could turn on when I start recording with my DJI Action 4 before buying it. Thanks :)
It won’t turn the mic on automatically, but if the mic is on it will automatically connect to it if it’s already paired.
@@TamaraGabrielUK The DJI Mic 2 could stay in sleep mode and be awaken when you press the record button on the DJI Action 4 ? The 6h of battery life is when recording right ?
Very good presentation. Thank you!
Amazing video, as usual! Does the dji mic 2 without transmitter also work with the action 3?
Thanks! No, not without the receiver.
The question is, if
i setup the mic 2 transmitter on action 4 (gain, 32float, noise canc and so on) then switch off the action 4, will the transmitter maintain the settings? Thanks in advance cheers from Roma Italy
Hi 👋🏾 Yes it will maintain the settings.
Greetings from Atlanta Georgia US. Love your vids. I always learn valuable info ✌🏾
Thanks ☺️
Great timing on the video Tamara
Hi Tamara, another helpful video. I was wondering where you put the transmitter when also recording as a back up? Eg will it be ok just to have it in my pocket ?
Hi. The mic will need to be placed where you would normally have it to capture your voice, as you’ll be recording internally to that mic as a backup file.
@@TamaraGabrielUK oops, sorry I meant the receiver!
You don't need the receiver to record internally to the transmitter.
@@TamaraGabrielUK ah I see. so I just adjust the sound as normal on my computer once uploaded to my laptop?
Thanks. Yes you can.
❤
Tamara, why doesn't DJI offer 1 TX, 1 RX and case for those of us who bought the Pocket 3...Where is the option package for those of us who already own 1 TX? I have to buy the 2 TX package because I need 3 microphones??? Could you please raise your voice and bring some light to this issue. They could easily have done it. But I don't see it on their website. Thanks so much. love the channel!
thanks for the great video - do you know that? There is a hot shoe for a directional mic for the original Osmo 4 Case?
No, there’s no cold shoe on the DJI cage unfortunately.
@ a Neewer cage has it I see thanks 🙏🏼 cold of course
Does the action 4 pair with two DJI mic 2 transmitters or just one? Thanks
I mentioned in the video, it’s just one via Bluetooth
I'm curious - What gain setting for volume are you using with this mic for both the A4 and P3?
Can it pair with both mic? Or only one mic.
That's what I'm trying to figure out. Do you know the answer mate?
One, via Bluetooth. I talked about it in the video.
Great Vid. Is it possible to use the Mic 2 with 2 x Osmo Action 4's. So 1 mic recording from each Osmo Action independantly, the other the same ???? please.
One mic for both cameras at the same time?
Thanks for the great video showcase. Just put an order in!
Question, do you know if you can record both the microphone from the camera and the mic when they are connected like this for two audio sources?
Would you need to not connect the mic and record internally and then just use the osmo action 4 normally?
Do you mean as a “backup” or for example recording voice with one and ambient sounds with the other at the same time?
@@TamaraGabrielUK More like having audio from two sources - say for example you are interviewing someone and holding the camera in front of you - wireless mic on interview subject - main camera mic recording the questions you ask.
When you record with the wireless mic connected to the OSMO action 4 and drop the video file into your video editing software are you presented with one or 2 audio tracks?
