      My goal is too continue my italian study and get more time. Since I have no real use for most of the languages, I just stay with Italian and continue learning. When there is a chance to learn another language because of friends or so, I‘m happy to do so too! Most importantly I just want to give myself time for regular language learning this year :)

    Ahhh, I was hoping there was a Scandinavian language amongst your picks.
    A lot of amazing languagetubers who are extremely talented polyglots still absolutely butcher Norwegian, Swedish and Danish when it crops up in challenges and geoguesser etc. so I've been looking for someone who'd take on one of them. (I'm biased towards Nor. But beggars can't be choosers.)
    Oh well, maybe next year, eh?

    I am super happy to hear you will learn Turkish! As a Turkish, I really love Turkish language because there are lots of ways to impress your thoughts than other languages. It's probably because We have lots Arabic, Persian, French words in our language even though there are Turkish origin words for them. For example "Yürek" is Turkish and "Kalp" is Arabic (I guess) These words both mean "hearth". So it creates a varietions (I am not sure if it's written like this :D ). I would write pages of comment but I gotta go, if you have any question about Turkish in your mind feel free to ask me :)

This year I also started Finnish with my teacher (because it was hard on my own, but I love the sound of the language) and I'm doing a revision of the basics of Hindi and Tamil (for now I am focusing on writing Devanagari and Tamil script and basic conversations). My brother has been living in Matsuyama, Japan for the past few years and teaches English there.
    In used to live in Houston, TX where a lot of people speak Spanish, and when I got to high school I wanted to learn it because I knew it would benefit me. Even though I’m 41 now I had an excellent teacher in 9th grade who was very structured in her teaching method, so most of what I remember is from high school. She worked us hard and it required a lot of studying. So it’s nice that even to this day I’ve been able to use it here and there. Although I don’t live near Houston anymore there are still a lot of Spanish speakers throughout the state, and I personally think they should start teaching children a second language while they’re in elementary school while their minds can learn it quicker.
    Also, have you heard of Afrikaans or given any thought to learning that? Although I know little to nothing about it, I first heard of it several years ago when I bought some rooibos tea online, and that’s what is spoken in that part of Africa where that tea is actually grown.

    I know this videos a few days old and you said you'd only be replying on the first day or so of comments but I wanted to share:
    My language learning goal right now is to get back on the German Lesson in Duolingo and complete it this year. Also, to utilize LingoPie (which I tried out because of your videos tbh) more for the same purpose. I know Duolingo's not the best or most perfect app, but it's a good starter and I wanna move away from it eventually and use something better.
    And eventually I want to improve my Spanish by getting back to basics and trying again. And maybe learn Japanese too. I don't really want to have a "multilingual" or "polyglot" label though if I end up learning even just a few.

  • @Davi-vi1lw
    @Davi-vi1lw 2 роки тому +1

    A good way to learn Japanese/ improve your Japanese is to learn the kanjis
    A good example would be;
    ------------------
    -Other People
    Other = ほか(他)
    People = ひと(人)
    Other people = ほかのひと(他の人)
    Commonly said as たにん(他人)
    ------------------
    -Regret
    Regret = こうかい(後悔)
    After = あと(後)
    [the second kanji for regret is for くやしむ(悔しむ),which has no direct translation to English. But explaining it, it’s the feeling/emotion you feel when you lose a game you really wanted to win, or when you fail a test you studied hard for/wanted to pass on]
    So “regret” would be あとでくやしむ(後で悔しむ)
    With that being said
    *please don’t try to learn Japanese by watching anime with subtitles, as くやしむ would definitely be shown as something else/similar or straight up unrelated*
    (Unless you watch with the Japanese CC, but even so it would be hard)

      Oh boy that's a tough one hahaha. Usually i don't do a lot of writing, but i think it's very important when learning Mandarin because you simply have to learn the characters. Once you have a couple thousand characters under your belt though, it gets a lot easier! Just keep going, learn from topics that interest you and you'll do great 😃

    I just want to be consistent. I am sticking with 2 target languages Russian and Swedish. I used to learn a bunch at once but got burned out. Maybe in a few years when, I am comfortable with Swedish, I will go back to French. However, that does not mean, I will not learn passively. I love Latino Urban Pop and Spanish horror movies, German Pop, J-Pop/Anime, and a few Norwegian TV shows.

      @@ColeLangs Thanks! I also love both of these a lot! I actually have a question for you: What do you think about learning a smaller language or is there a language that you find interesting but you think it wouldn't really be "worth" to put the effort in? Because (most of) the languages you are learning are ones that have a lot of speakers around the world and therefore are very "useful" but imo there are also a lot of interesting smaller languages. I would love to hear your opinion on this

      The problem with those languages is that they are endangered with less than 1 million and i think Scottish Gaelic is even under 100k and most natives are fluent in English so its not as easy to get immersed in the language i just started learning welsh myself.

    That seems a very ambitious goal. While I applaud your ambition, would you not be Better off to concentrate on , say five languages and then in a year add a couple of more? I realize that you seem to have a natural affinity for language learning but I see so many on UA-cam who claim polyglot status, but seem to know only a few phrases and questions and no real depth. Best of luck!

    • @ColeLangs
      @ColeLangs  2 роки тому

      Great question! I probably would be better off in terms of comprehension in those five languages but at least right now, in this point in time, I would prefer to create foundations in a bunch of different languages to build off of later on. I'm already satisfied with the languages that I can speak well, so now it's mostly more about exploring other cultures for me. I don't care about the polyglot "title" at all, and I think it's silly to compare different types of language learners solely based on how many languages they've studied

    Tbh I’m surprised you’ve included German on your list but why do you and other similar polyglot channels never have Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Dutch, or Icelandic content? Most people who have these as their first language are good at speaking English, but that’s not stopping xiaomanyc going out in the street to where everyone speaks English well. Is it because it might be seen as overly Eurocentric and white washed? which is a totally fair argument, yet still isn’t keeping you and others doing Slavic and Romance languages.I’m just curious what is keeping you away from the (especially northern) Germanic languages?

    • @lorrorstory
      @lorrorstory 2 роки тому

      Just as a small addendum you have a huge list of languages that I’m sure you put a great deal of thought into choosing, I’m not as curious about why you chose those over northern Germanic languages and Dutch as much as I’m wondering if there’s a reason you don’t have interest in those languages.
